Is there some kind of special significance to the titles highlighted in red?

Did they show more on assassins creed other than the trailer?

Cause if not, how is that rated for one of best in show?

I think there was a behind-the-scenes demo for some of the journalists.

Gears of War sure did win turn up quite a bit.  I seriously hope it lives up to the HYPE because that's one of my must have for the year

Nice to see Bioshock in a lot of the categories and Mass Effect winning the RPG category.  With that, Gears of War and Assassin's Creed supposedly coming to the 360 (after a timed exclusive with the PS3) things are looking good for the 360.

If those are the best original games, pretty sad for the industry.  Only Loco Roco looks somewhat original.

I dunno dude, both Spore and Assasin's Creed seem very original to me.  If you only look at screenshots for Assasin's Creed you would think it was just another Prince of Persia clone, but after reading the preview in this month's GameInformer I was actually pretty impressed with what they are trying to do....

And as good as Loco Roco looks, I don't think there's a game out there more original than Spore...

In order for this thing to have any validity whatsoever, (well, in my book anyway), the above would have to be true.  And seeing how it was... I'm cool with these guys.

Why don't you just play your Xbox library on your Xbox?

The only category I completely disagreed with was for Best Fighting Game. Heavenly Sword? Give me a break! I know its just opinionated but I thought HS looked somewhat lame, how did it beat out a Tekken or Virtua Fighter game?

I never had an Xbox but I'm seriously considering getting a 360.  But I also want to play the great library of games on the Xbox without having to buy one of those too.

Which great games are you talking about that haven't been ported?  The XBox was a good console, but I can't think of to many great exclusives that aren't backwards compatible.

I don't see Mercenaries, Escape from Butcher Bay, Psychonauts, either of the Buffy games, or Indy Jones and the Emp's Tomb on the list. I don't know if Jade Empire is on the list either, but that one I care less about than the others. slywink

I comment that I don't think any of the games look terribly original, and now I hate games?  Huh.

Sure, Spore does some cool things, but I'm not sure I'd call it original.  I remember evolution games in the past.  Assassin's Creed is a game based on assassintations, something that's been done before.  Maybe Assassin's Creed will do it differently enough to be unique, but I'll believe that when I see it.

Bioshock isn't that far from System Shock.  Gears of War is another shooter, albeit potentially an incredibly well done one.  But the whole 'cover' theme has been for years in games like Ghost Recon (take cover, advance, etc.)

Wii Sports isn't original, though potentially the control is.  Though we've seen other motion controls.  What might be original is that the Nintendo motion control might be well done.

I'm sure there were other deserving candidates that potentially weren't Sony's or Microsoft big showcase games, or even one of Nintendo's cool demos.  I would have really liked to see a smaller publisher that maybe was trying something unique, but without the big showrooms the big three rented.

I'm sure all of the above games maybe great fun, but I just don't see much of the originality.  I see advertising budgets, and big flashy displays at E3 behind them.

And I do think the industry has stagnated somewhat, as we see sequel after sequel, or games that are blatent ripoffs of other games far to often now.

Oh, I'd say Bioshock is System Shock on acid with a dash of Fallout 2 thrown in and then mixed with the Unreal 3 engine.  It looked amazing, and also looked like it had enough original elements to be 'new'.

The first Buffy game was extremely fun up until near the end. The second one... not so much. But the point is they beat the hell out of Barbie's Adventures and the other crap on the BC list that strikes me as more pandering than anything else. "We listened to what you wanted!" Bullcrap, hoss.

Bioshock doesn't use the Unreal 3 engine.  It uses an upgraded version of Unreal warfare from Tribe: Vengeance.  Looks very nice anyway!

IIRC, games like Barbie's Adventures used the same engine as another game that they worked on BC for, so it took minimal effort to get it to BC status.  I doubt they worked hard to get it to work on the Xbox 360.

But it's much more fun to believe that MS specifically worked on making Barbie Horse Adventures Wild Horse Rescue backwards compatible solely for the purpose of pissing off gamers smile
