I just wish this Wiimotion plus thing were coming out now, or at least at the holidays.  Assuming it works with all games (and it would be ridiculous for it not to, but I suppose it's possible), it's going to be hard to keep playing knowing finer control is possible.

By the time most Americans have HDTV sets, we will be heavily into high def digital distribution.

By that time ISPs will have put download caps on your service or made it significantly more expensive to download HD movies with any sort of frequency. Also BR media will come down in price, so I don't think it will be going the way of the Laser Disc.

However I agree that for now the quality difference doesn't make up for the price difference. Though BR movies ARE pretty frickin' sweet.

I feel like it's Christmas!  c'mon big surprises!!!! <girlish giggle>

Rumor mill is rumbling that The Who might be Wednesday's special guest.

Wait! What?

So apparently the appearance by The Who was friggin' awesome.  (link goes to Jeff from Qt3's 1UP blog about it).

They played for two hours, Ringo Starr was in one of the balconies (his son is the drummer), and at one point Townshend's string broke and he said, "I bet this never happens in your fucking game."

Including the 45 minute encore, the setlist was:
Quote
  1.  I Can't Explain
   2. The Seeker
   3. Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere
   4. A song from their last album "Endless Wire"--sorry didn't know the name frown
   5. Who Are You
   6. Behind Blue Eyes
   7. Baba O Riley (oh my god this was epic)
   8. A song Pete said was from 1971 that I couldn't place, but that Shane said might be called "Freeway" but I can't confirm it so far.
   9. 5:15
  10. My Generation
  11. Won't Get Fooled Again
  12. The Kids Are Alright
  13. Pinball Wizard
  14. Amazing Journey
  15. See Me/Feel Me...Listening To You medley from Tommy
  16. Tea & Theater (duet w/just Roger and Pete) from Endless Wire album

Harmonix throws good parties.

I just watched the dev diart from Tomb Raider Underworld and I am cautiously optimistic.  If they can replicate something like Uncharted I'll be a happy tomb raider.  Sure is looking good graphics wise.

Well, it turns out MS is held back more than just the Bungie announcement.  Alan Wake will be coming to the Tokyo Game Show.  http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/18/alan-wake-to-show-its-face-at-tokyo-game-show/

This is what I was saying, people.  Sony and Nintendo all but announced it.  Microsoft's last minute pull of the Bungie news showed they got the message.  E3 is dead.

...back to E3 for a minute....

Did you guys watch the Street Fighter 4 trailer?  HOLY SHIT it's a work of art!!!!!

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36491.html

Awesome trailer. But two major problems:

1) The 360 d-pad is an absolute joke. Yes, I'll keep bringing this up. Tongue
2) Voice acting...sucks. Wow. Is Capcom even trying with their latest SF game? Or are they hiring out of the same camp that gave us the "Master of Unlocking" crapola?

Quote from: wonderpug on July 17, 2008, 08:29:40 PM

TC, one last thing about 1080p:
Quote
To distinguish the difference between 1080p and 720p with the human eye with 20/20 vision and a 50 Inch screen, you need to be sitting within 6 feet of the screen.
[citation needed]
I don't get how these numbers are invented.  My wife doesn't have 20/20 vision and she can see the 1080p difference on our 46" TV sitting 8 feet away.

You mean how the human eye can't see 60fps over 30fps, right? Gotta love blurbs about the eye and what it can and can not see. Or so people think.

aren't most of the stages shown just recreations of the original SF2 stages?

Interesting.

Text below taken from Vladrek on the sarcastic gamer forums.

1UP: Last week, Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura said that he's hard at work adding new scenes to the FFVII: Advent Children Complete Blu-ray release. Can you give us any update on that project?

Shinji Hashimoto: You can look forward to the upcoming invite-only fan event DKS3713 [taking place in Tokyo on August 2 and 3], where we'll have a major announcement that will shock the fans in attendance.

My guess would be, rather than the FF7 remake rumor that keeps going around, it'll be a sequel to FF7 taking place after Advent Children.  Perhaps the extra scenes being added to Advent Children Complete are needed to tie into the sequel's story?

i've seen this game in person and i don't see how much fun it could be. i mean sure, the level editor is pretty damn awesome, but the gameplay itself didn't look like it would have a lasting appeal. i wasn't able to actually play it myself because the ps3 kept having problems and everytime i was there it was taken up. i couldn't sit and wait either, so oh well. i dunno, i'm not a platform person, so that could be it. but just jumping over shit all day, boring.

game is good graphically though, which i think is what is turning people on to the game.

The last line of that comic just strikes me odd.  The last 2 generations they could be giving away free gold and no one would touch it.  Funny how things change I guess.

On the contrary - we all three got in.  Unfortunately Jerome had an emergency (a friend stationed in Afghanistan was killed) so none of us were particularly in the 'party' mood.

No no no. You'll never hear those kinds of things on your Wii, because you need a pair of system codes and a game code just to allow anybody to interact with your Wii. It's like a double strength condom or something.
