And now Wii Music.

Are they seriously going to show none of their 'core' franchises (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc) this year?

well, Mario and Metroid just had major releases, so Zelda would be the only one who is due for something.  A new Starfox game would be interesting.

Zelda is the most likely and, if they do, it will at the very end of the press conference.  Mario is still too recent- it's not even guaranteed that the Wii will see another core entry in the franchise.  Metroid is kind of a toss-up:  most indications had Retro moving on from the series so Nintendo would already have to have selected a new dev who had been given enough time for something to show.  It would be akin to expecting Halo 4 at MS's press conference- it's just too soon.

What of the Kid Icarus rumors??

Wii Music looks cool.

How long does this conference last?  Is it almost over, or is there more?

It's now being pulled through the proprietary Live server farms; this is a way of them adding yet another bullet-point to the Gold account benefits.

I'm glad they have the feature, but I could see how Silver accounts might get pissed. I don't even get Netflix, so no loss/gain here.

Is it really being pulled from MS's servers?  Because it's basically the same thing as Roku and the "Watch Now" options that all come from Netflix's servers and are already being paid for by the basic Netflix subscription.

Sounds like it's over.  Perhaps they don't need megaton announcements since people just buy the Wii any way.

Let me rephrase myself then - showing anything that wouldn't be called a 'kiddie' (or all-ages) game. Yeah, they had Call of Duty and Star Wars, but...it's all just causal gaming. Of course, that's what the Wii is all about.

In the end, it makes me glad I have a 360 and PS3 in my entertainment center as well.

nope thats it..no mario,zelda,f-zero or metroid

wiimusic looks good for those who liked all the other wii things like wiifit

the wiimotion + thing could be great if used for more than cutesy little minigames.

and the star wars game looked good, and i am interested to see what the GTA game looks like, but becasue of no flagship announcements(especially Zelda) ...wasnt that great for me

Wow, the Nintendo press conference was not terribly impressive.

To play Wii Sports Resort its going to run me $80, so there better be some great games in that package. Wii Music didn't look terribly fun to play. I have no interest in Animal Crossing, but it seems like it could be fun for people. I thought the snowboarding game looked like a lot of fun, but I don't have a balance board and don't anticipate getting one.

Was it just me, or after they showed off the 3rd party games for the Wii, didn't you get this feeling of stunned silence from the crowd, like, "That's it?!"

Although, E3 is young.  They might be holding on to stuff for later in the show.  I can't imagine why.

Interfacing to Live will require it. On top of which your subscription is going to allow others to watch movies with you. Whether or not they also need Netflix accounts has yet to be seen. (although I've done no digging; once again this isn't a feature for Canuckistan).

Wow. Quite a stinking shitbomb from Nintendo today. Looks like it only took 18 months for them to become complacent again. At least my wife will be thrilled with the Animal Crossing Wii game.

I'm gonna guess that Wii Sports Resort will be $50 - $30 for the device and $20 for the game. It's not like Wii Sports is all that expensive in Japan (where it is not a pack-in). Same with Wii Play.

I think it's more about Nintendo not caring about E3 than being complacent.  They've been saying for weeks now that they planned no big reveals for E3 and that everything would be announced before it.

That said, I think the Wiimotion thing is fantastic.  I hope they release a new version of the Wiimote with that built in.  I also hope it's not game specific and can work across all games.

Wii Sports Resort will be a definite buy, but I don't think that's hitting until next spring. Otherwise, not a whole lot of excitement there.

That's what I am saying ($30 for device & $20 for game), but I need a second Motion Plus so my wife could play too. So $80 for me to really get the most out of Sports Resort. If there are any four player games on there it starts to get a little ridiculous if people decide to upgrade all of their Wiimotes: $140.

I hope they show off some cool stuff during the rest of the show, although I don't think there will be anything too earth shattering.

There were also some interesting new XBox Live Arcade Games announced - Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2, Galaga Legions (from the team that made Pac-Man C.E.), Portal : Still Alive (containing Portal plus new challenge missions), South Park, Banjo Kazooie from the N64, and UNO Smash.

I hadn't heard anything about the N64 Banjo Kazooie coming to XBLA, are you sure you aren't thinking of the new Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts which will be a full boxed release on DVD.

here you go.

OK and very cool! Thanks EddieA and Ceekay for pointing this out. I wasn't aware of the XBLA Banjo Kazooie, although I do tend to be out of the loop on these things. I'll be in Day 1 for the XBLA game and probably BK: Nuts & Bolts, unless I decide I want to bare the wrath of my kids. smile

We already know you need a Netflix membership for this service.  Where did you read that the movies are coming from Microsoft servers?  Or is "interfacing to Live will require it" your own assumption?

Doesn't EA run their own servers?  If so, why couldn't Netflix?  As for letting others watch- I think that's a fine service to offer to Gold-only members.

I for one are not surprised if Nintendo delivered a lack lustre presentation; didn't actually get to watch it myself. As I said yesterday, they now have the market lead and they'd probably just deliver the status quo. Kinda reminiscent of some of Sony's lack luster E3's during the the PS2 era. I think the days of Big N showing up at E3 with kick ass presentations is a thing of the past. They've also been saying as much themselves for the past few weeks.

Something to also keep in mind is that they front loaded the 1st 18 months of the Wii by delivering a game from 1 or more of their major franchise every quarter. I'm betting that Big N is hoping the 3rd parties will respond to their lack of planned franchise releases and come forth with some big hitters.  However, based on what I'm reading from peoples comments here there was very little 3rd party presence. This is my single biggest bone of contention with Nintendo; not enough promotion of  3rd party dev's. I mean WTF Nintendo, If you're not going to use the event as a major showcase yourself, why not use that space and time to let your better 3rd party devs shine!?!?  If they don't get their shit together on this soon they're going to blow the opportunity to put some real distance between them and the competition.

And let's see how Sony recovers after losing FFXIII.

Nice intro at least.

"As many of you have written - 2008 is the year of the PS3."

Huh?

And they're pushing how Blu-Ray is the winner and such. See? The PS3 WAS entirely about pushing their format.

I think both games are meh. GoW was too much on rails for me. I never played resistance, but it looks fairly generic.

I've seen LBP in action at the playstation experience. Game does look pretty good. I couldn't play it because the ps3 there was having problems too often.
