I can see the fanboy spin already starting for FFXIII coming to the 360.  I bet we'll have the stick figure 'screenshots' of the 360 version floating around any second now  icon_twisted

So long as we can get a more accurately positioned in 3D space broken TV WII version too.  slywink

I am going to be curious to see the difference in media between the 360 and PS3 versions of FF13. Wasn't FF13's massive number of movies one of the things Sony was touting about in using Blu-Ray as their storage medium? Will the PS3 version come on 1 disc while the 360 comes out on like 10?

I'm sure it'll be multi-disc on the 360, but I don't mind at all. I'm more concerned about how fun the game will be; I was hoping for another FFXII, but this one's by a relatively new crew to the main franchise. The director's previous entries were Final Fantasy X-2 and Revenant Wings. Not exactly top-notch credentials.

8-person chat in the dashboard and in-game is huge...although i won't be surprised if there is some resriction during gameplay in certain cases.

i also thought this comment from Marc Whitten (Live GM) is interesting (italics for emphasis on the good part)...
Quote
Dashboard built into the new Xbox Guide.  For everyone who loves the blades interface, its not going away; they are now built directly in to the new Xbox guide. Every feature and option is available right from the guide.  You can even access your full games library at all times.  No matter where you are (in dash or in game), immediately call up your games played list and directly launch a game.

does this mean we'll now be able to get a much more full-featured version of the dashboard while playing a game, rather than just that half-blade with profile, communication, and music options?  it would be awesome to have full access to dashboard features without actually having to exit the game you're playing.  my curiosity about all the coming updates is pretty damn high...should be interesting...

There were also some interesting new XBox Live Arcade Games announced - Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2, Galaga Legions (from the team that made Pac-Man C.E.), Portal : Still Alive (containing Portal plus new challenge missions), South Park, Banjo Kazooie from the N64, and UNO Smash.

I hadn't heard anything about the N64 Banjo Kazooie coming to XBLA, are you sure you aren't thinking of the new Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts which will be a full boxed release on DVD.

don't forget that part of the new dashboard features for the fall update is to be able to copy disks to the HDD.  I wouldn't be surprised if FFXIII is multidisk, but you only need to keep disk 1 in if you copy the rest to the HDD.

I would like to say that I think it's funny how many people are excited about being able to download games to their Xbox HDs, when a small PS3 install makes then want to slit their wrists.

It's all about optional versus required, Leo.

Me? I don't plan to download any of my games to the HD. I like that the option's there for multi-disk games in particular, but I could live without the feature myself.

As for Banjo-Kazooie re-releasing on Live? Hell yeah! Now I don't have to hook up the old N64 or worry about the battery save dying. icon_biggrin

But unless you have something bigger than the 20GB drive, odds are you won't be able to take advantage of it. Remember - with no compression, a DVD9 is 8ish GB. And the 360 only has 13 free to start with on the 20GB one.

isn't it still going to be optional with the 360 though?  I think the big stink with the PS3 installs was having to wait while it installs while getting only a minimal speed boost.

plus it was about the PS3, and being a PS3 lover makes you a baby killer.

Have they commented how multi-disc games would work?  It's very possible that you'll still have to swap out each game disc for the disc check.

The difference to me is the 'optional' part... combined with how long the installs take.

I still can't get over FF XIII going to the 360. It pissed me off that they backed the camera out on G4.
I'm thinking you just dealt a fatality move to Sony and your backing off the camera, what a bunch of jerk-offs.

I was impressed with the rest of the 360 lineup and the new interface. Overall Microsoft had a great showing.

Xbox Gold only for netflix? BOOOOOOOOOOO!

Dude, we're talking about bandwidth and hosting costs... it's not free, and since you still can use your netflix rentals it really comes as no surprise. I'd be dancing if we had this in Canada; movie rentals are expensive enough; being able to stream movies and watch them with friends online using my gold account which is ALSO good for more than JUST this is better than nothing.

They did that on IGN's Live-Wire... it wouldn't surprise me that SE wanted people to see a better quality version online rather than some wash-out version and required live feeds to back off on the end video.

As for the interface and the Avatars, it's a big step up from the gamerpics and the blades. I hope they're fast enough though; I hate the slight hesitation when I change blades. Tongue

So the DVD copy to hard drive should take just under 10 minutes for a FULL DVD-9 on the 12x ROM drive, if I'm not mistaken.

Are they seriously going to show none of their 'core' franchises (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc) this year?

It's now being pulled through the proprietary Live server farms; this is a way of them adding yet another bullet-point to the Gold account benefits.

I'm glad they have the feature, but I could see how Silver accounts might get pissed. I don't even get Netflix, so no loss/gain here.

And now Wii Music.

Are they seriously going to show none of their 'core' franchises (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc) this year?

Zelda is the most likely and, if they do, it will at the very end of the press conference.  Mario is still too recent- it's not even guaranteed that the Wii will see another core entry in the franchise.  Metroid is kind of a toss-up:  most indications had Retro moving on from the series so Nintendo would already have to have selected a new dev who had been given enough time for something to show.  It would be akin to expecting Halo 4 at MS's press conference- it's just too soon.
