*ahem*  yea...

Quote
n today's 1UP.com Prey Interview, George Broussard was kind enough to spill some beans on the whereabouts of DNF's development.

GB: You know, we've been so busy on Duke Forever for so long that we can't really see past just finishing this game, but you never can tell when it's done, you know, what you want to work on next.

1UP: Wait, wait. You guys are working on Duke Forever?

GB: [Laughs] And ever and ever.

1UP: And when's that due out again?

GB: [Laughs] I think it'll be out when pigs fly. But it's definitely going well now. Things are together; we're in full production. We're basically just pulling all the pieces together and making the game out of it. There's a lot that's finished. All the guns are finished. Most of the creatures are finished. And as I said, we're just basically pulling it all together and trying to make it fun. We've kind of got all these disassociated elements that make up a game, and you put them together and things happen. And then you just tweak it and polish it until it's fun, and that's kind of the phase we're in now, just trying to make something that is really fun to play and interesting.

Thanks George!

At least they're still talking about it after all these years.
Even if it's nothing, I wish valve would say something about team fortress 2. (The game that was originally planned as an expansion to QUAKE 2!)

Good thing they acknowledge that the game has become a running joke.

Romero still gets all crybaby when people talk about Daikatana, or being his bitch.

The way he talks about their "full production" being the random assembly and tweakage of disparate elements worries me.  Sounds as if somebody finally said, "Enough!  We're not spending another dime on this thing.  You!  Bob the coffee monkey!  Go through all the assets we've finished, pick some, slap 'em together to make a game."

Not exactly the best environment for creating a quality gaming experience, KWIM?

I did, however, enjoy this bit:

It's good that at least they are not hyping it up like other games that have taken forever to come out.  Maybe the game will speak for it self when it arrives in 2016.  We know to beware of the game if it comes out at a 20 dollar price mark, though.

After reading the interview, I just have one question, is this game going to be fun?

How many times can he say it Tongue

Maybe this game will become a generational game.  the first generation of developers will die before it is done and their offspring will pick up the torch.....

The Great Wall of Nukem.  Filled with the bodies of those who died in its creation.  The only PC game visible from orbit.

They've already ascended from that phase.  They were hyping this years ago, then they entered the "STFU" phase Romero's hype-drive was thrown into.  Amazingly, they have evolved from that stage.  Truly, they are in uncharted territory.

If it ever comes out, they should really think about the subtitle in the next game in the series.  Maybe Duke Nukem Next Spring.  It seems they have stumbled upon some powerful oracle or fortune telling subtitle.  Duke Nukem 3d really was 3d compared to the side scrollers (ok, it was 2d and a half), and Duke Nukem Forever really was... well you get the point.

Like most of us, I'll believe it when I see it. However....

In the part 10 years I've come sort of full cycle. When DNF was first announced I was hopeful & anxious. Then as years (& years) went by I became annoyed. Then came apathy. Now I find myself curious about it again.

After all the great (and even not-so-great) FPS that have actually been released in the past decade, I cannot help but wonder what they can possibly bring to the table that will make DNF worth owning. Apart from it's legendary delay, what (if anything) will they be able to do that will make DNF stand out? I can't imagine, but nevertheless I will simply have to see this thing for myself. I doubt if I'll buy it, but I'll have to at least play a demo, or play someone else's.

And My God, what if it's actually good?! I mean, is that possible?

George is saying the same thing he said 2 or 3 years ago...they have some monsters and some weapons. YAWN.

Shoulda just released Duke Nukem 3.1 and I woulda been happy.

They were talking about gravity boots years ago. Like in the first games, you could walk up walls and stuff. That would still be cool but it made me a little sick in AvP.

Still, I'd love to see it come out. Not holding my breath.

I still feel releasing DNF at this point would be anti-climactic.  Can you imagine how legendary it would be if we were talking about the pending release of DNF fifty years from now?  Who could ever top something like that?

Like if Gravy Trader ever got released.

They need to price this thing in the $10-$15 range right at the start for it sell.

Eh, if it has co-op for the single player levels, I'd be happy.
