You waffle, you lose, it seems.  I finally decided to go out and get me some DS Lite goodness, so I broke open the piggy bank and hoofed it over to Gamestop.  Well... they are all out.

Oh darn, that means I need to go to Best Buy.  It's ALL the way across the street, too!  Well... they are all out.

Dejected, I walk back home (after stopping for some Pad Ki Mao, of course), check out availability on teh intarweb... and EVERYWHERE local is out of stock!  WTF!

So, I just ordered it from Amazon, it will get here sometime next week.

Shit, man, I can't even impulse buy!

Looks like everybody picked one up before the family travels for the long holiday weekend.  Or else the world has it in for you.  I get that feeling sometimes.

The funny thing is this 'impulse buy' isn't even an impulse buy.  It was a procrastination buy.  I wanted one since they first came out, and kept putting it off for no good reason.

So when I finally got off my arse to get one, they were all out.  Now I'll probably see a "x% off" coupon somewhere, and realize I could have at least used my procrastination to save some money.

Well, on the good side, I got me Metroid Prime Hunters with a bonus rumble pack.

My guy at Eb was talking to me about this before they came out.  he said that the first shipment they got was going to be very small.  I think they got 25.  I took pre order number 24.  While I was in there picking mine up, there were two different people looking for one.  No pre order.

Even last week, when I got animal crossing, there weren't any.  they were due to get some in a couple days, but they figured they would be goone soon as well.

I did notice that Wal Mart by me had a couple, but only a couple.

Even if you find an EB or Gamestop that has one in stock, you might want to wait until Target, Wal-Mart or Best Buy has them, given the trouble that people have had returning units with dead pixels. If nothing else, make sure you ask what their return policy is before you buy it, and make sure you get the name of the guy who tells you the policy.

did you happen to try Target????  I know I've been paying attention to stock, and everywhere I've gone has been out except Target... that've always had at least one in stock... usually more.

This problem has never happened to me, with anything ever.

But I'm talking about new only items from the store.

Every Target and Walmart that I've been in up and down the eastern seaboard for the past 2 weeks has had tons of them.

On the same topic, why doesn't my local EB ever have any new game unless I pre-order it?

I just wait until Thursday when Best Buy gets their shipments.

I was through a Toys 'R' Us just yesterday, and they had stacks of DS Lites.  If I were motivated to get one yet, it would probably be there since their return policy covers any defect, including dead pixels, up to about 45 days.

Because they base the number they ship to us on the number of preorders we get, plus some extra.

there was some change when they were grabbed by gamestop, i think.  but I do know that a lot of games are really based solely on pre order now.

Because they allocate numbers of games based entirely on their number of preorders. If 10 people preorder, EB headquarters believes it'll be a popular game there, and they'll get in like 20-25 copies. If nobody preorders, they'll get in one or two (unless it's an obvious big seller).

This is part of the reason they constantly nag you to preorder games.

It's also a large part of the reason I generally only pick up new releases at either Best Buy or my FLGS.

Yeah, I wanted to go local in case I get bad pixels, plus the extended warranty thing sounded like something I would have wanted, but oh well.

Actually, I should have ordered it through BB and set it for instore pickup.  Blah.

Target and Toysaurus are too far away.  I can get a car, I guess, but when I have to plan out a roadtrip, it takes away the impulse aspect of it.

Same reason I avoid them also.
