How do you mean he doesn't need them as gladiator? Why not dump a ton of points into ranger for the great stat boosts?

I'm at about 45 hours and loving it. Probably 15 hours of that spent hunting down alchemy ingredients. Alchemy is a lot of fun but I'm often frustrated by not knowing what the build next. And also, frequently wanting to upgrade equipped equipment and forgetting that I have to unequip it first. Minor annoyance but an annoyance all the same. Still, the moment where something new pops out of the alchemy pot is pretty cool.
Just got out of the Gortress (worst prison ever) and figure I'm getting near the end. My "extra" quests list is still distressingly full of ??? though.

Most of those extra quests are for after you beat the game.

Hey I deleted a level 20-something character in Final Fantasy XI so I could reroll as a new race and still use the same name, but it sounded like you restarted because you thought you had gimped your characters, and none your game decisions thus far were irreversible, aside from the deletion of your save file.

I have 42 points in Ranger skills. While I'm playing as a Gladiator, I'm running at 100 in sword and 100 in Gladiator skills. I have 100 in shield so my Gladiator can equip a shield. I have those 148 skill saved up, because I'm not sure what skill I'll want in the future. I hope to unlock the Luminary soon, maybe I'll want to lvl up those skills, or maybe one of the weird weapons I'm not using atm like fans.

Must be Luminary because it is the only class I've not unlocked.

Must be Luminary because it is the only class I've not unlocked. You can't get the Luminary quest until after you beat the main story. I've not yet seen the monster I need to complete it and I'm doing lvl 50ish grottos.

I've not seen it, either, but I also don't know what monster you are talking about. I have beaten the game as well and have just been doing side and extra quests and doing some grottos here and there. I did unlock the train, though, which is fun.

Between the glowing reviews, the damn Forum Effect.. and the fact the first Dragon Quest on the NES was the first RPG I ever played from start to finish, I was compelled and just picked this up. Don't know when the hell I'm gonna play it. it's on the 2nd DS game I've ever bought for my 3.5 year-old DS (the other being Meteos). Looking forward to trying it while laying down on a beach chair later today.

Yeah, I'm juuuust about where I was before (after only 20 hours!) and my party is in much nicer shape. I'm really shocked how enjoyable this game is and how much I'm absolutely digging it.

I'm really liking this game. Perhaps even more than I did Dragon Quest 8 (?) on the PS2. Are these grottoes you guys mention the same thing as "treasure map" caves or something different? I keep getting the feeling that I'm unintentionally missing a bunch of stuff. And what level were you guys when you "beat" it? I think I may have spent a bit too much time power leveling as bosses have been pretty easy lately. Most of my guys are between levels 30 - 40 in their main class and most have leveled to around 20 in at least one other class. I just beat

I'm loving the elementalist class. All I'm using is a wand and still pulling down plenty of damage per attack.

When you beat the boss of one (quite a bit harder than the story bosses) you get another map. Usually the new map is harder than the one you just beat. I think I was around lvl 40 when I beat the main story, so your lvls seem about right there.

I've now clocked in about 75 hours total in DQ9 and I'm still loving it. I still haven't actually finished the game, since I've been doing too much screwing around with quests and classes.
