I really can't describe how much I hate that Mulgrew dumbass.  That really sucks.

What do you have against her? She has a good voice for voice parts at least.

And I recognized her voice in the last trailer pretty quickly.

Horrible, horrible actor.

Grating voice.  Ugh.

Agreed. She's a warbling grandmother.

Have you seen the voice talent video? Tim Curry looks like a grandmother. Maybe Eleanor Roosevelt.

I'm much more interested in how the companions are voiced as opposed to the characters that have relatively limited lines.  It's not like you are going to be listening to Kate Mulgrew for the entire game, or Tim Curry for that matter.   As long as Claudia Black, etc., do a good job, it will be fine.

Yeah, I've skipped them so far, though a few spoilers have gotten through via posts on the official boards.  What I am really more interested in is the world backstory and game mechanics, not story spoilers.

I usually don't consider stuff that happens in the first 5 minutes of the game or so to be spoilers *cough*Assassin's creed*cough*.  But the amount of story and events that happens just within the first segments of the game for an origin is pretty interesting.

But wow, they're not kidding about the mature themes, that origin story is F'ed Up.

Count me in the "avoiding story stuff until the game's out" camp.  While I agree that such things aren't necessarily spoilers, I'd definitely prefer to experience the whole thing fresh.  I won't be playing the Brutal Legend demo for the same reason.

son of a bitch... I went to upgrade my regular edition pre-order at Gamestop to the CE, and they're not taking any more pre-orders for the CE.  I may end up going through amazon for it now.

Well... at least she knows her purpose in life.  I wish they could make her look more unique though.  She looks like a generic NPC, until she goes crazy and kills people in a fit of religious fervor.

That might not be a good idea if you want the game right when it comes out.  AIUI Amazon is no longer guaranteeing that pre-orders will be shipped when the game is released.  I can confirm that I put in two orders as gifts for "Professor Layton and the Diabolical Machine."  One order went in August 13 and one August 16th.  The game was actually released August 24th.  One of my preorders was shipped on the 26th, the other one was shipped on August 30th, almost a week after the official release date.  I also noticed that my August 16th preorder was shipped out before my August 13 preorder, so it doesn't even look like ordering it earlier means you'll be at the top of the shipping list, although the August 16th preorder went to an APO address, so maybe somehow that got priority.

I may end up making my Gamestop order the 360 version and also pre-ordr the PC CE. That way if it looks like I'll have a wait I'll play through the 360 version and trade it in, or if it appears the PC version will get to me sooner I'll cancel my 360 order.

I hope the voice acting can compete with Fable2. The voices in Fable2 are some of the best
I have heard in any game, not to mention the wonderful London accents. Obviously you get such results with known actors but I don't see why Bioware can't use the same with their budget.

I'm still trying to figure out which version to order.  If I pre-order the CE version, do I need to worry about where I pre-order or are all the bonus items the same?

some place seem to be already sold out of the CE, like Gamestop.  I know there are indeed different bonus items: amazon has a pair of boots and GS has a charm but like I said they're not offering the CE for pre-order anymore.  I'm switching my pre-order to Amazon, 10 bucks more than the regular edition gets you some good stuff.

That was pretty funny, though pure fan service to the forum community, as you can probably guess.  I wouldn't say it's quite as bad as some of the stuff on the official NWN2 forum, but people do actually argue about things like Wynne's magic bosom.   icon_lol

I hope they do some more work on the PC's expressions.  If you aren't going to be saying anything, they need to stop cutting to a shot of you looking blankly with no expression at who you are talking to.   icon_lol

Doesn't look like it, it's the old school way of doing it, but it's also practical for such a huge game like this.

There are a lot of people you can talk to and a lot of ways an entire event, not just conversations, can pan out and probably more responses.  The amount of dialog the main character has goes way beyond ME or any console RPG.

It's also a good thing in a way, eventually players would start just skipping all the dialog to get to the response.

Witcher and the Gothics had voiced main characters and they had a fair amount of dialogue.  I think the problem with DA is not the size of the game, but the number of possible main characters that would need to be voiced.  However, I don't see why they couldn't hire some hobos off the street for real cheap considering how poor most of the dialogue and voice work has seemed so far.

I don't think it's the cost of voice talent, I think it's the storage issue.  And iirc only Gothic 3 had a voiced main character; Gothics 1 and 2 had silent mains.

I was going to say I was pretty sure the main in the Gothic series has always been voice.  I realize there are 6 main characters, but I'm sure there could be some overlap on the voices.  the humans could use the same voice, same with the elf and dwarf.  so technically they could get away with 3 voice actors, 6 if they give the option to choose the sex of the character (can't remember if they said so or not).

....I can't say much (interview on the 8th, hands-on on the 15th) but I'll say this:

Dragon Age will be RPG of the year.  There isn't a doubt in my mind.   From the 10 hours of hands-on time, it may replace whatever title you consider to be the best RPG you've ever played.  I'm simply stunned.

We shall see.  I do hope it's good even if I have my reservations.  The gameplay certainly could be awesome, but all the atmospherics (story, dialogue, voice acting, visuals, setting, characters) seem rather questionable.  It's going to be a serious task to beat Baldur's Gate 2, Gothic 1-2, and the Witcher for my top RPG spots.  Anyway, aren't Risen and Drakensang its only competition on the PC this year?  I can't think of any other RPGs that came out.

it has indeed been a light year for RPG's, it's sad that Arcania, Two World 2 and possibly Alpha Protocol have all been pushed to next year.  the only one you didn't list )other than MMO's) that I can think of is Storm of Zehir.
