Yep, Dragon Age is like the return of classic CRPGs like Baldur's Gate and the like.
It also looks to have mod tools to the level of Neverwinter Nights.

Pretty great looking videos. Sound is good as well. Picked up a couple of annoying things. Combat phrases are going to get old quickly. As in "right in the face" Which I heard 3 ti-4 times just in the clip. And "I need healing". These are just quibbles though. Day 1 purchase for me. I'm a one game at a time kinda guy, but if I'm in the middle of a game when this comes out, I'm dropping that and starting this. Unless it overlaps with Fallout 3 and F3 really has a hold on me.

That seems an unlikely scenario since Fallout 3 is pretty much locked in as a late October release while Dragon Age is 1Q 2009 date with typical Bioware history caveats.

Well see, the reason I said that is because I have several things between now and F3. I actualy have a couple of old games at a good gogamer sale, by that time FC2 should be out. Hinterland will be in there someplace. Stalker clear sky, Rise of Flight-A WW1 flight sim, may make december, and I think there might be a couple I am forgetting. Plus F3 is a looks like a huge game that will take me some time to get through-I'm not the fastest player in the world. But you are also correct. With Bioware, Q1 2009 is just a possibility and who knows when the game gets here. I wish I had it now, I know that.

I'm probably in with both feet on this one. Not only does it look great, Bioware's known for crafting some very deep and compelling stories.

After watching the videos I am not sure if friendly spells hurt your team or not. If they do why wouldn't you wait for the fires to finish doing as much damage as possible to the enemy before moving in, but if they don't why did the person doing the commentary say you need to be careful where you aim one of the spells?
It never seems like the team is being damaged by the fire - certainly not as much as the enemy.

Often spells in these sorts of games only affect enemies... or it could be changes they made for the sake of the demo... dunno.

May also be a part of the difficulty options.

May also be a part of the difficulty options. I'm betting on that. The Baldur's Gate series had a difficulty adjustment where you could be hurt by your party's spells or not.

The new Game Informer has a cover story on it. I haven't gotten my copy yet though. I'm really hoping this makes it's Q1/Q2 release for the PC like they've said and not have any 'simultaneous release' stuff crop up.

GameInformer says early 2009 for PC late 2009 for console. Decent article, but I didn't see anything too ramp up excitement... maybe if I didn't just finish up Saint's Row 2, wasn't in the middle of Fable 2 and looking forward to Fallout 3 next week I'd be more interested in Dragon Age.

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised how many announcements and reveals we are getting right now. This time of the year is packed full of games that are coming out in weeks, not months, so trying to hype something for next year right now seems like a big error. And yet we have a DA cover story, the announcement and reveal of the KOTOR MMO, the Halo 3 expansion reveal, the Star Trek MMO, etc.

Dragon Age is a day 1 purchase for me.
It's a return to classic RPG style, but updated with the latest tech and techniques, and that's something that's been sorely missing in the game market these days.

For some reason I've suddenly become totally obsessed with this game starting some time around last weekend. I don't remember what triggered it, but now I just can't wait. Unfortunately it looks like there isn't even a confirmed release date yet. Maybe March?

That's what it hopefully looks like at this point. That the PC Gamer guy was able to play something is a good sign. March is also when the tie-in book comes out.

I think they said they were targeting April, hopefully it doesn't fall prey to the 'must delay until fall' bug that tends to go around this time of the year.

Want. I probably won't have time to play until May or so, so I've given Bioware the okay to delay it until then if they need the time.

heh, I'm not sure why I'm worried about it being delayed either. it's a Bioware RPG like BG2/KotOR and not like Jade Empire/Mass Effect, so it'll probably sit on my hard drive for about a year before I get into it anyways.

That's pretty frustrating, and a bit odd given the comments on the official boards recently. Makes me wonder if it's a decision made for marketing or other reasons rather than because the title won't be ready on time. It also seems odd that Bioware would put DA:O so close to the presumed release of the second Mass Effect game, which has been rumored as a holiday 2009 release. Unless there is news there that hasn't been revealed.

well that sucks.
I guess this quoted from the Pc gamer article means diddly squat "Leading on the PC, not consoles".
The John Riccahirrado dude from EA has already confirmed it was purely for marketing reasons, to coincide with the release of the console version.

As disappointing as the move is, it does make a lot of sense from the marketing angle- better to focus in the advertising in one two-three month period for all platforms instead of doing it now then turning around and doing it again at the end of the year.
But, yeah, I can't help but think this pretty much nixes any chance of ME2 hitting this holiday season.

Bloody fucking holiday release bullshit. RELEASE YOUR FUCKING GAMES SOME TIME OTHER THAN CHRISTMAS!
And don't even get me started about how this moves from a PC exclusive to a simultaneous console/PC release.

Naw, I think it's because they realize the game is not up to par, so instead of giving the PC crew the possibility of slamming it several months before the console counterpart hitting the market and therefore negatively affecting the majority of the sales, they're going to release them all together to avoid it and maximize profit! But seriously, this stinks a little. So much for PC lead etc, etc. Ah well.

Once a developer whores itself out to the consoles, there's no going back. They are a console developer and will never be a PC developer again.

Not sure how this changes it from being "PC lead"- the game has been targeted at PCs for pretty 80% or so of it's development.
