Do I need to do anything to play PS2 games on the PS3...

I remember that you have to go in to the ps3 menu and "create" an internal ps2 memory card to be able to save ps2 games properly. I don't remember exactly what the process was but it was described in the manual.

you only need the adapter to transfer save games off the PS2 card to the HD-  right now it's basically a one use item.

I thought I read somewhere that you could do that (assuming you have a way to get the saves off the PS2 memory card and onto a USB device). But I'm not sure.

unfortunately the only way right now is to have a PS2 memory card and the save transfer adapter. Don't feel bad about buying the adapter, use it the one time you will use it, and return it.
