Larian Studios has announced its next game - Divinity : Original Sin.  D:OS is a prequel to the original Divine Divinity, but rather than being an action-RPG, it's isometric and turn-based, a la Baldur's Gate.  RPGWatch has a preview and screenshots.

I played DD2:TDKS on the 360 and it was friggin' brilliant

from the screenshots in the link, reminds me a little more of Sacred 2 or Torchlight, but that could just be the isometric look talking to me as we don't get that many of them on the 360(that i can recall right now)

Divine Divinity 1 was isometric and Diablo-like except with an interactive environment and more RPG elements; I think it even had a pause option.  This sounds like they are returning to their roots.  Sounds great to me as I loved the original but never got into any of the sequels/semi sequels.

I actually pefer the 3rd game D2:TDKS to the original, so I have mixed feelings about this. I didn't even complete the original as it just felt very akward and lacking to me. I'm a fan of Iso TBS's though, so maybe this time Larian will do better.

I'm exactly the opposite.  The third game was fantastic, the first two were 'meh'.

Damn, this game looks like it has great potential! Co-op play with dialog choice duals between players looks very interesting - has that ever been done in a RPG videogame to date? I'm also impressed they've included play mechanics to support PC reputation and attitude and manipulating the elements to support attack types. This game seems to be incorporating some features you'd typically only expect in a P'n'P RPG. Looking that much more forward to this now.

went in for $25.  kinda on the fence about the game though, so I may back out; I'd prefer another action RPG game in the series instead of turn based but the video kinda sold me on the game for now.

and the Kickstarter ends with a combine total of $981,538 from both sites.  They are keeping the Paypal donation page open until May 10th, so it still could hit $1 million.

and they have a release date:  February 28th 2014.  a little bit later than planned, but their update explains:

Quote
We are very determined to implement all the extra features gained through stretch goals the way they should be implemented, which essentially means  that we want to incorporate them in the story, the world and the gameplay mechanics.

This is  taking us more time than we originally thought, and so, rather than cancelling a feature or a goal, we decided to move the release of Divinity: Original Sin from this fall (as originally announced) to this winter, specifically to February 28th 2014.

We realize this may be disappointing for some people who had hoped the game would still come out this year, but really, we think you'll have a much better RPG experience when everything we wanted to put in, is actually going to be in.

For backers that have Alpha access, expect to have the rough and rugged version of Original Sin by November. Beta should be your New Year's present in January!

So this is out and I've put several hours into it now and I'm enjoying it quite a bit.  The turn based combat and the way all the skills and environment interact is great.  Teleport is one of the better skills I've seen show up in a game like this in a long time, who doesn't enjoy teleporting a bad guy 15 ft up into the air above a burning patch of ground?  The game also manages to make a rain spell super useful.  Quests have been decent, and overall the game is kind of lighthearted.  I recommend everyone start the game with the Pet Pal trait,  the animals say some of the more amusing things and you get to do things like broker a romance between a stray and house cat.

I created two characters a warrior and rogue but didn't see a way to add the pet pal trait.  Where did I miss it?  I looked under skills and couldn't find it.  Although, I really couldn't find any useless skills.  It seemed like my characters needed what they were default assigned.

Character classes are really just a suggestion, you can modify almost everything about them.  Pretty sure Pet pal is a talent not a skill, so you need to go into that sub menu.  They are similar to perks in the Fallout series, if you miss the one you want at start-up just level up a few times and you can choose it later.  The icon is a cross inside of a diamond.  It's between the fist and heart.

Huge patch today which also added personalities to your characters (not sure if you need to start over to do so). From Steam:
Quote
Hello everybody!

We just released the first official patch for Divinity:Original Sin which introduces the concept of AI personalities.

During character creation, you can now select a specific personality for your characters. When a personality is active the AI will automatically make dialogue choices (based on its personality) for the avatar that isn't selected.

In addition to this, we've made a lot of improvements as well as bug fixes and balancing changes. You do not need to start a completely new game for these changes to work. Of course, your savegames will keep on working.

You'll also notice that you can now publish to Steam Workshop using the Divinity Engine Toolkit.

The full change list is too large to post as an announcement, but you can check it out on our forums[www.larian.com].

Please make sure that you verify the integrity of your game cache after patching. To do so, right click on Divinity:Original Sin in your game library, select properties, then select local files and finally click on "verify integrity of game cache"

Have fun!

Full patch notes here.

We encountered what might be my favorite quest solution last night.

The lonely Troll
Spoiler for Hiden:
In the 2nd area you encounter a lonely troll that won’t let you past his bridge.  We went around talking to the other trolls but after not finding a solution we basically gave up and headed for the main town.  There we encountered a prostitute who said she would entertain the troll for something like $1500 gold.  Out of curiosity we paid the sum.  When we made it back to the trolls location the woman was there and they appeared to be preforming a play of Little Red Riding Hood.  The troll was very happy.

I started over so I could apply the AI, I couldn't see how to change it mid game. I picked judge for my fighter and rascal for my wizard. I generally use the fighter as the main and try to select to do nice things. The wizard disagrees on everything and I have to do rock, paper, scissors to decide. Which I always lose at. It's very weird, but sort of interesting.

You can sort of game it and quicksave and just try spacing through them.  It's sort of neat that you can save mid conversation.

At first I was saving before conversations just for that reason, but then I realized that it is part of the game so I should live with it. If I don't like it, I should start over again with "loyal" AIs. I do wish they would agree sometimes though, my wizard is really a bitch, she's always for making money and fighting so far.

What happened to the GT review for this game?  Metacritic shows it was there (a 75/100, screenshot below), but their link goes to a 404 page and there's no mention of it on the front page.

I'm pleased to see that Divinity OS has been pulling in some good sales numbers. this is easily one of the best RPGs I've played in the last couple years. I'd love to see this team build upon this franchise.
