Obsidian still interested

Quote
Obsidian Entertainment, developer of Knights of the Old Republic 2, "would love to" pitch a new Star Wars game to Disney.

That's promising, given that when Disney ended all internal LucasArts game development earlier this month, it did so saying "we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimising the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games".

Quote
"As for Obsidian pitching a Star Wars game, or games for that matter, we would love to. Getting to work within the Star Wars world was a tonne of fun and it would be great to get to do so again."

Feargus Urquhart revealed in February that Obsidian even had new Star Wars pitch that LucasArts had both seen and liked. The pitch sat chronologically between Star Wars films Episode 3 and 4.

"It's the fall of the Republic, the extermination of the Jedi. It's Obi-Wan going off and making sure Luke is OK," explained Feargus Urquhart to Rock, Paper, Shotgun at the time.

"You have the Sith, but you have the extermination of all Force users except for very, very few."

Obsidian's Chris Avellone came up with "a really cool story" and one of the studio's best ever pitches, said Urquhart.

*sigh*

More info about the closure of LucasArts, having more details on games that were cancelled

Quote
First Assault, as we reported a few weeks ago, didn't have any vehicles. Version Two did.

Quote
“[There’s] a very vocal audience that's clamoring for Battlefront III,” said a source. “We were hoping to eventually give it to them.”

"Version 2" was to become a new version (duh) of Star Wars Battlefront III,"Version 2" footage in the link
http://kotaku.com/star-wars-battlefront-fans-havent-half-been-screwed-ove-472194016

Quote
When Meegan made those proclamations, LucasArts was working on a number of different games, multiple sources have confirmed to Kotaku. One of those games was Star Wars 1313. Another was Star Wars: First Assault. And then there were others, like Outpost, a social game that was to be the Star Wars version of FarmVille. There was an iOS game, and a project headed up by well-respected Splinter Cell designer Clint Hocking.

In the coming months, every single one of these games would be cancelled or overhauled. Star Wars 1313 shifted directions multiple times, while First Assault was scaled down significantly. Outpost and the iOS game were axed. Hocking left the company, and Meegan would go on to leave too.

Nooooooooooooooo!

Quote
Today it was announced that Lucasfilm Ltd. and Disney Interactive are entering into a multi-year, multi-title exclusive licensing agreement with Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) for the creation of new high quality Star Wars games spanning multiple genres for console, PC, mobile, and tablets.
...
While EA studios will develop for the core Star Wars gaming audience, Disney Interactive will focus on delivering new Star Wars games for casual audiences on mobile, social, tablet, and online gaming platforms.
...
"Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe," said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau. "Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay."

Good bye Star Wars games. We hardly knew ye.

Welcome "one million different exclusive DLC packs with obscure Star Wars characters" and Origin integration.

No wait, that's not welcome!

Pandemic...oops,EA closed them disgust

if it's DICE,I guess it ain't got a chance in hell to be a Third Person game like the others(with the secondary option to switch to First Person),Vehicles will overpower everything as per usual with DICE games..its like when everyone except me got excited when they saw that Call of duty mod for Battlefront...NO THANK YOU!!

but i guess i am still upset thinking about EA with their Microtransactions(TiLT described it pretty good) and Season Passes that make me shudder...the worse thing is,its one of those games where i will fall in line with everyone else to buy it all(i am my own worse enemy)

Perhaps I am lowering my expectations because i have been let down so many times over the past 8 years with Star Wars Battlefront III(its been cancelled more times than Futurama)

It also annoys me thinking about Republic Commando, yes it was a First Person but it stood out from the rest of them, now its gonna get thrown in with them

at least they are taking their time-  EA has said no new Star Wars game for fiscal year 2014, which ends in March 2014, so they have 11 months or so to finish up the next game biggrin

imagine what could have been had EA not been, well, EA

Westwood makes Empires at War 2
Origin Makes Tie Fighter 2/X-Wing 2
Pandemic makes Jedi Knight 3/Jedi Outcast 3
Dice (of old) makes Battlefront 3 using Frostbite 3.
Bioware (sigh, again, of old) makes KotoR 3
Maxis makes SimDeathStar where you design your own personal square of a battlestation, working together with the other sub contractors to get everything fully operational in time for the rebel attack.  good news here, Maxis can put to use the failed traffic AI from Simcity into Storm Trooper aiming

should I go on, or do you have enough depression fodder to slit your wrists?

KOTOR2-Dec 2004
SWBF2-Oct 2005
Republic Commando-Mar 2005

those are the games of note for me,if you wish you can add the Star Wars Lego titles that's fine, but if you really need to(i wont agree) you can add The Force Unleashed games, and one game i can't comment on as i have not played it is The Old Republic MMO(2011)

Considering KOTOR 2 released in an unfinished state, I'd say no and instead give the nod to Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) or Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga (2007.) Both of those were excellent games and everything since has been mediocre to down right dismal.  I expect EA will release SW games that in one way or another serve to shore up their rapidly sinking/submerged SW ToR, which means the quality of the past 5 or so years will probably continue.

EA have opened a new DICE studio in L.A. exclusively for Star Wars Titles

360a.org

Quote
EA has announced the opening of a new DICE studio in Los Angeles, earmarked to be a “key cog” in the publisher’s plans for the Star Wars IP.

That’s according to the Wall Street Journal, which also reports that EA hopes to use the location of the studio to poach talent from rivals Activision Blizzard.

“There is an extreme talent pool over that we want a part of. It’s no secret that our main competitor is there,” said DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson.

Troedsson also told the WSJ that DICE LA hopes to amass 60 staff by the end of the year. Members of Medal of Honor studio Danger Close have already been snapped up, in addition to “outside talent.”

Although DICE L.A. will reportedly be a “key cog” in EA’s plans for the Star Wars license, it’s still being decided whether the new games will feature existing canon or new Star Wars stories.
