Yea, Disciples has some fantastic art style.  I'm working with the team to get a copy early to preview.  Even if they shaft me, I'll just buy it.  Totally in.

Another Day One purchase, regardless of the fact it's being done by akella.  I can tolerate some bugs in exchange for a new Disciples 3 game.

There are also more than a few Disciples III YouTube videos which display both gameplay, trailers/cutscenes and technical stuff. Looks pretty impressive - I'm playing Rise of the Elves from Disciples 2 myself.

it's ridicously good and cool looking, so yeah, day one purchase for me as well...the gameplay can be hellish if it wants to, as long as I get to drool over the amazing artwork, oozing atmosphere...

its really strange, because, I cant put a finger on the style...its not normal fantasy, nor gothic, its...well, disciples!

I absolutely love the art style in the Disciples games, but got really frustrated with the gameplay.  Maybe I just really sucked at it, but it always seemed impossible to actually level up new characters and/or armies.  Once you hit a certain point, it turned into a vicious cycle of new units needing an absurd amount of XP to level up enough to be useful, but not being able to actually get any XP because they weren't strong enough to survive the battles.

I'm disappointed that they went 3D though I don't see why they wouldn't.

The art in Disciples II was the prettiest of any game ever.

If I have the horses to run it, I'll probably be getting it.

Yeah, the game is freakishly hard at times...especially, since, there is only a definite amount of enemies to "level-up-on" on each map, making it really hard, if you dont survive and gain levels...

Does anyone know what the art style is called? I'm actually looking for some new paintings and would love the same style, but I just cant put my bony finger on what the art style could be called...

It shall be mine.  MINE!

I'm glad they've kept the same art direction.  The units even have the same attack animations, only now obviously way more detailed.

I've been waiting for this game forever.  Anyone know how solid that 9/30 release date is?

Actually, I've been reading about the game around the net over the last week and it doesn't sound good.  Take this QT3 thread for example.  It's pretty devastating.  I really hope it gets fixed by the English language release. frown

I've seen it in action at demos but I've not gotten my hands on it yet.  I'm a big fan of the series, and I'm looking forward to it.  I'm hoping to get my hands on it for a Day 1 review.

As for that QT3 list o' reviews, I don't get how you can praise and love the graphics and then say "Meh, 8 out of 10".  I'll judge for myself.  smile

Arise!

In a sudden burst of sneaky releases, Impulse shows that Disciples 3 is now available!  eek Too bad I just bought Reign: Conflict of Nations...

I would love to see some impressions!

Be sure to use the Impulse-bday code to get 15% off your purchase!

I'll have to wait.  In the last month I've gotten:

Battles from the Bulge
Storm Over the Pacific (Although I won't be playing that one a lot)
Elemental Beta
MtG: Duel of the Planewalkers (Damn, you, Steam, and your  $10 games)
Alpha Protocol
Reign:Conflict of Nations

My gaming cup runneth over. Fortunately early word on this is none to good.  At least that's about it for the rest of the year.  The only sure purchase coming up is Civ V.  Fallout:New Vegas and Vicky II are both maybes, depending on what the word on the street is.

I just looked at Impulse, and it reads "Germany only" on the product page, with a worldwide release listed for July 13.  I am more than willing to be a test monkey for this.  Reading the bugginess in the qt3 page was a dagger to my heart, because d2 was one of my favorite games of all time.

btw- what is the bday code?

Don't forget Victoria 2, tgb... that is supposed to be out in August. Thankfully, I've switched some of my gaming to the Nintendo DSi XL, and the games there are 9.99-19.99 usually and 29.99-35.99 max, typically.

I'm going to pass on Disciples III. I also have too much, the word on the street is bad, and the system requirements look rather high, so it probably wouldn't run well on my lappy. I've got Starcraft 2 coming next month, so spending more money seems to be wasteful.

With the major Steam sale going on, I'm of the opinion that, for the $39.99 you would spend on Disciples III, you could get 4-5 much better games (i.e. AI Wars, Blood Bowl, King's Bounty, etc.).

Yeah, even without the other issues, I'm not happy with what they've done to the battle system.  After once having been in day one, I'm now out.  Not excited any more and the backlog is big enough.  What a shame. frown

Yeah, what they kept from DII is exactly the same - the city and character development.  But they completely gutted what made it unique - the rod manipulation and the combat system.  As long as you can still get DII from GOG and Steam, why bother?
