In a new segment I'd like to run, I wanted to see if the assertion by developers that most people don't beat their games is true.  Today's poll - did you beat the original Super Mario Bros?   (Of note, the link added for "Super Mario Bros" that Viglink added shows some great plushies!)

Yep, a game has to be really bad or incredibly frustrating for me not to finish it once I start.

I've played and finished every Mario game until Mario 64.  After that I've played all of them and finished none.  I'm not sure if it's an age thing or having too many games.

I never owned a NES system.

I did, but I kinda used those warp gates to skip a bunch of levels.  IIRC there was one in 1-2, then went to world 4, where there was one in another set of warps in one of the levels that took you to 8.

I did beat it, but only years after the active heyday of the game.  When the game originally came out, even after I had gotten really good at it I just didn't care about getting to the end.  I had my favorite levels I would go straight to and then I'd just have fun.

I can probably still remember most of my sequence...

Play 1-1 as usual, the normal underground path, and of course be sure to get 6 fireworks at the end.
Play 1-2, take the rooftop shortcut and head to the warp pipes, but warp to 3-1 instead of 4-1
3-1, my favorite place in the game.  Make a mario face with the underground blocks, shoot fireballs at the base of the bridge... just such a fun level
3-2, it's ok too
3-3, I wasn't a fan of any of the castle levels, but you gotta do what you gotta do
World 4, I hated this level.  I'd just get to the warp pipes ASAP and then pick someplace to explore, World 5, 6, or 7 more often than 8

No, but I never owned an NES, and my attempts to play old Mario games via Virtual Console were quickly abandoned. Just no good at those games.

There are few games that I am more terrible at than Super Mario Bros.

I played the heck out if it and never got anywhere.

I am one of the few people in the world who does not have fond memories of most Mario titles.

I loved Mario Bros but never really got any love for any Mario games after that other than the RPG titles on the DS.

I've kinda fallen out of love with Mario when I picked up the N64.   I picked up Sunshine on the Wii but never completed it.  Galaxy didn't blow my skirt up.  I liked the 2nd one far more than the 1st.  I'm strange that way.

I think once Mario went 3D is when I started not liking them.  Couldn't stand Galaxy, never tried Galaxy 2 and the 64 remake for the DS didn't get far with me, yet I played through Super Paper Mario on the Wii just fine.

not sure how I'm going to feel about Super Mario 3D World...

Have you tried New Super Mario Bros. U ?  Its 2D and more or less feels like Super Mario World 2.

Trying to remember...I sorta fell out with Mario when Sunshine hit. I finished that but never even started either Galaxy game. And haven't played any of the DS/3DS titles.

I tried the one on the Wii U and strongly disliked the visuals enough so that I didn't really want to keep playing.  Something about the perfect gradients on the pipes and everything just looked really bad to me, more like a student video of what a new Mario game would look like than what I expected from Nintendo.

I loaned it once from a friend who also had a NES, but it was way too hard for my 10-year old skills smile
I did finish - and tremendously enjoyed - Super Mario World, for SNES. That wasn't too hard, and it saved your progress.

I don't know if this is spoiling future threads, but...

Super Mario 2 - never beat it.  I didn't play it as much as the other Marios, but even when I did it was more fun to just goof around than to actually try and drive to the finish

Super Mario 3 - still have never beat it to this day, even though I played it a ton.  I could consistently get to the final world, but always got bogged down in the middle levels of the world.  As with other Marios, I had more fun just warping to my favorite levels and goofing around (World 5, Sky World).

Super Mario World - have beaten it numerous times, as well as getting full star completion numerous time.  This game is timeless.

Super Mario Anything 3d - I've never beaten a 3d mario, not even Mario 64.  I've just never been able to get myself to enjoy any 3d platformers.

Never really cared for the Super Mario games.  2 was probably my favorite, but never came close to beating any of them.

Edit:  unless the Mario & Luigi RPGs count... I beat a couple of those.
