G was the key to slam your banner on a defeated foe

Wrong.

The banner (with the sigil on it) allows you to flag something for others.

eg: Hey check out this item / door / path / etc ... or Meet me here!

It has its use, but it is, for the most part, cosmetic. As you progress you also unlock other sigils and banner components (backgrounds, styles, etc).

how exactly is that wrong?  You kill something, then you hit G to shove your banner in their face and taunt the dead AI mob.  You can use it to mark something important if you want, I will continue to rub them in a bosses face when I beat them.  No need to be a dick about it, you're wrong.

Hark, I think you might have taken that a little too seriously.

You listed a single use for it as if it was its' only purpose - and it doesn't slam it on a foe, it slams it wherever your MOUSE is. So if you just defeated a foe and had your mouse cursor on a chest or some unimportant tile off on the other side of the room, then hitting that G, by your reasoning, means you defeated that tile.

I found it useful as a pointer at times - especially when there isn't any voice comm in-game.

Going to try to pickup a collector's edition at Fry's. I collect those art books, and I can probably sell off any of the other stuff I don't want.

And if any of you don't have an authenticator, now's definitely the time to get one. Blizzard accounts were already huge hacker targets, and with the addition of the RMAH I can only imagine it'll get worse.

Just a reminder Blizz suggested you do NOT leaf through the CE art books until you've played through the entire game once, as much of the artwork might be considered Spoilers (presumably they might reveal later level story points, characters and enemies).

They should've put that into the Diabo Skull USB drive to make it multi-functional. They could've designed it so you had to grab the horns and twist them in order for the authentication screen to activate.  icon_twisted icon_smile

According to the Battle.net support page on this, if you've lost your authenticator, you'll want to contact tech support about removing it (probably they'll ask you some questions to verify it's you, maybe you'll have to perform a pagan sacrifice and give them a blood sample, etc.); and then you should be able to attach a mobile authenticator at that point.

Not unless you've attached it to your account.  It's like a VPN token, but for logging into your battle.net account or blizzard games.  You can buy a physical authenticator or download an app that does the same thing.

It's not required, but if in the past bunch of years you've ever heard about someone getting their WoW account hacked, or their Xbox Live account, or whatever and you think to yourself, "I would rather this not happen to me," then you should probably get one.

You can indeed remove the authenticator ties on your own if you remember to do it before getting rid of your devices.

First of all, what does the authenticator do... force me to check my cell to log into battle.net?

Nextly,

Even though I'm waiting for my CE from EBGames, I had signed into battle.net and saw that they let me preload the game - before I own it!

Authenticator can be set to check every time or weekly, unless you are logging in from new places (iirc).  To connect to your actual battle.net account on that site, you need it every time.  What it does is prevent people who aren't you from getting access to your account and changing all your info and leaving you a sad panda.

the authenticator gives you a separate physical thing to check before you can log in.  In this way even if your account info is compromised the hacker can't login without physical access to your authenticator (or until a hack for those is found as well, but due to the way it's setup that would be extremely hard).

That's because it phones home to a server to check if you can even install it (which you can't right now) and even if you could, you have to sign in with Battle.net to play Diablo 3, so they will just not let people sign in until the day and even then you will need your account code from the box.  So, you'll be able to get it installed starting the day before release, but you won't be able to play until you get that CE, if I understand things correctly.

Even though I'm waiting for my CE from EBGames, I had signed into battle.net and saw that they let me preload the game - before I own it!

Yep that sounds correct.

Oh, I understood that - what I'm excited for is that I don't have to install / patch when I buy the game, I simply have to enter the code.

I can't find any kind of download link without pre-purchasing.
