wow! - great review!. thanks for reminding me of just how well done & how much fun the game was (i especially agree with you as far as dmc3 pretty much holding it's own compared to re4 - for one thing, dante's way more responsive (& a hell of a lot more entertaining) than leon... but, then again, who isn't?)...

i hope people who're still on the fence re: the game read this review - it's the single-best hype-free, down-to-earth description of what's there to be enjoyed (i would've gushed more re: the often beyond-outrageous video sequences, but hey, that's just me), & what you need to do in order to work (or cheat) your way to it, that i've read anywhere...

I'm taking my time playing this game.  I'm at level 2 Swordmaster right now...I've played through the 3rd mission, with lots of orb farming/leveling in mission 1.  Cerebrus is a swank weapon so far.  Can't wait to get further once I hit level 3 Swordmaster.

The way I play the game is that I don't orb farm intentially, but I do a data save the game before every boss encounter, since you usually die quite a few times from bosses before figuring out their patterns, I end up with quite a few extra orbs at the end of each run.  By the time I kill the boss I've amassed a decent sized collection.

Since in game data saves are quick, you can even save after every major encounter if you'd like.

Great review, Fox.  I agree with just about everything you wrote (except Dante's voice/dialogue...yecch).  I hadn't even noticed the clever bit with the level numbers.  Where's the one for level 4?

Played a little of it when it first came out...put it away until yesterday - then played quite a bit.  Good stuff.
