I was flipping through an gaming magazine (Game Informer), and they listed a few mods which can tune up the game for those who still enjoy playin' the classics.

So I figured I'd share.  It would also be cool to give that game a replay some time, so I can always look this thread back up, too!

If anyone has some cool improvements they know of, share with the rest of the class!

Enhanced OpenGL renderer for Unreal Tournament - Updates UT to work with newer cards.

High-Def Texture Pack (these guys also seem to be working on a (not yet completed) Deus Ex mod) - Updates the game textures.

Shifter for Deus Ex - makes some improvements to the game system

I saw a similar project for the Thief series.  The high texture packs bring it VERY up to date.  Good find!

Nice... KD, do you have a link for the Thief textures?  Or are you referring to Orgy's Guide to Making Thief Leet?

I know there's some updated textures for Deus Ex: IW, Thief 2, and Thief 3 here that are very good:

http://www.john-p.com/textures/index.shtml

John P needs a good ole pat on the back. Some high quality work smile

I have no idea if this is the one Knightshade is talking about, though, but the Thief 2 (which is actually a mod instead of a texture update like the other two) supposedly is pretty impressive.

T2X was released to the public on May 15th. 2005.
IT WAS UPDATED TO VERSION 1.1 on February 18th. 2007

T2X was in development for five years, when finished reached 655MB in it's compressed form, and as such is probably the only, or at least one of very few fan made game expansions/FMs to have had such a lengthy and elaborate development.

I just played Deus Ex with the Shifter mod this spring and I like it alot.  This was my 3rd replay of the game and the only thing to note about Shifter is it makes the game easier.  I played on the 2nd hardest difficulty level and flew through it with no problem.

I remember looking for it a few years ago myself, and couldn't find it.  I -know- I didn't sell it or trade it, since it's in the "keeper" box.  The only thing I can think of is losing it.

unfortunately I think it may have been in a box of about 20 games that got lost when I moved a year ago  icon_frown

Does anyone know if these work for the STEAM version? I'm ready for a replay and wonder if I need to search for used copy or DL from Steam.

I think mods work for Steam versions, but I have no direct experience with it.

Just installed Deus Ex GOTY, installed the patch, ran the game, installed HDTP and then installed Shifter mod.  I had a problem getting the game to start (something about the dx something or other-a problem with the command line) but I managed to fix that.  However the game doesn't look any different to me.  I took a couple of screenshots of Paul but they look exactly the same to me.  Have I done something wrong?  I start up the game using the HDTP icon.

The HDTP is a work in progress.  IIRC, they don't have character textures added yet -- and the ones they have replaced are pretty subtle.  Look at the crates, for example.

I was really hoping for all new models but I guess I'll just have to wait!  The crates do look good though I admit.  So do the pop bottles and cans.

Rise up ye olde thread.

I reinstalled the Steam version of Deus Ex. It's the GotY one. Does it still need the new textures? Will they work with it? I grabbed both HDTP and the ULTRA textures for that. Haven't tried to install them. Wasn't sure I either needed them or they would work. Then again I hope it doesn't change the game too much cause I always liked it the way it was. But that was a long time ago. Man I'm older.

Seems HDTP does not work with the Steam version. Now I have to delete the game and redownload it it to play. Without those new textures  though I see no point really. Sigh.
