I never understood how unified ammo was such a killing point for so many. DEx 2 was a crappy game, but I never thought "If only the ammo wasn't unified!"
This: "this time around combat won't be influenced by stats, but will rely purely on your personal marksmanship skills"
and this "damage will be dealt with by a very Call of Duty-style auto-heal"
sound like much bigger changes than a single ammo type.
Anyway, I think none of that makes or breaks a game so here's hoping.

I'll wait for further previews before I make a decision on this one, but to be frank, I'm not keeping my hopes up.

I'll just quote myself as my stance on the game hasn't changed any.

So it's basically an action FPS now.

Not a bad thing if they keep dialog trees and interesting decisions to make.
However, I'll definitely miss the stats based RPG portion.

I kind of thought that was one of main game elements from Deus ex?
Might as well be FEAR without the scary part.

Stupid technical limits that were the result of the programmers being idiots aside, I thought DE2 was a solid sequel.

You're never gonna see a game in the same vein as the origional Deus Ex as an expensive AAA title again.

Pretty much. I'm still looking forward to DX3- like what I've heard so far.

Stupid technical limits that were the result of the programmers being idiots aside the PC version being an Xbox port, I thought DE2 was a solid sequel piece of tripe that didn't compare to the first. Fixed it for ya. I suppose you can say that, but the problem was that their programmers didn't understand the XBox so they made the game they did based on those failings. The later Thief game solved a number of the technical issues that the engine showed with DE2 and they even admitted that they didn't understand how to use what they had. So yes, porting it was the reason but only because of the programmers and not because the XBox was inherently incapable of doing better. To be honest, I only really had a problem with the small areas at the end of the game when I saw what they had done to an area from the first game. The smallness was annoying but not overly so prior to that.

Well, at least it shows Square is actually committed to broadening its market as a publisher/studio. Even though its first few bigger efforts were a bit odd, such as that WWII RTS.

IMHO the X-BOX and Playstation have destroyed good FPS games. I guess Bioshock 2 has gone the way of CoD:MW, and some of the changes listed here sound like Deus Ex will too. If they make a DOOM clone System Shock 3, I'm literally going to eat my mouse... eat it piece by piece.
The problem is - developers seem to think that console gamers are "dumber" than PC gamers, or they can't handle deep plots, inventory management, and deeper RPG elements. This seems very very bizarre - Morrowind sold fine for consoles, and it was deep. Oblivion was FAR less deep than Morrowind, but deeper than some games - and it also sold fine. Granted, Bioshock 1 was no System Shock 2 - but why turn Bioshock 2 into CoD:MW2 -NOW WITH MORE MUTANTS? Don't we have enough CoD style games? I think the perception is different from fact - console gamers LIKE deep games - they BUY deep games - they are NOT all troglodytes that need to see "boom" and "no story in mah boom plsz." Heck, I would say that a large number of console gamers are 20-30 former classic PC players that don't want to continue to upgrade their PC every year to play the next iteration of whatever series is releasing.

From the article: Staying true to the original and making a real Deus Ex game is vital to this project. Although we are a new team working on the game, we have the benefit of time and perspective to look back at the first two games and really identify the core aspects of a Deus Ex game, as well as what went right and wrong. Oh hell yeah. Here's to hoping it turns out well.

Yep, finally another good cyberpunk game. Love everything I'm seeing about it.
I think it's about that time in the console cycle, that certain games or game types have had their markets filled so companies are exploring other types of games.
It also helps that Bioshock 1 and 2, along with Mass Effect and Fallout 3 showed that the market can support games of this type.
