Just got my latest OXM and played the Destroy All Humans demo.  What a great and funny game this appears to be.  Smashing cows into the ground using my psychic abilities is tremendously fun.  And Crypto himself (the alien you play) is hysterical.  You have to see him talking to the cows thinking they are intelligent earthlings.  For example, he tells the cows that we are going to take over this planet and remove your brain stems for something or other and then proceeds to say "do you have any objections to this?".  The cow replies "moooooooooo".  By the way, it is so cool removing the humans brain stems after you kill them.  If you grew up enjoying 1950's science fiction movies then this game would appear to appeal to you.

The one thing that scares me to death:   in the demo there is NO OPTION to invert the controller!!!!!  If you can't invert the controller then it will be a fun game I will NEVER play.  Without an inverted controller I was running around electroshocking the ground and the sky instead of the farmhands!

Anyone know if the controller can be inverted in this game?

Rob - it is very similar to Psychonauts, which I believe you are currently playing.  The perspective is from behind Crypto and the game has a very platformer-like feel to it with the controls.  Pressing "A" allows you to use Crypto's jet pack which is really cool as you can glide above everyone and rain down destruction from above.  However, there needs to be an invert option.  I'm praying that there is one in the final game.

Starshifter, do you use one stick for movement (like Psychonauts) or Two (Like Mercenaries)?

Two.  Left stick moves & right stick changes view (aims) like Halo.

i thought the demo was great, it was way too short. i would have liked to play in the city and see how crowds react to my destruction, but i enjoyed myself for what i was allowed to play.

the graphics are really good to me. the swaying grass blades looked really nice.

for me this is a purchase if the reviews come in strong. i enjoy these b-movie games. reminded me of ps2s war of the monsters in the sense of it's subject matter.

did anyone else think the alien sounded like jack nicholson?

What other demos are in this month's OXM?

I used to be in the early receiving batch, but apparently I've slipped to the late receiving batch.  Boo.

Bullwinkle and Devil:  yeah, I got in the early receive batch also - if yesterday was early.  Maybe they rotate to try to keep everyone happy...

I'm afraid the demo won't do me any good, though - I'll be shooting the ground along with Starshifter!  I haven't tried the demo yet, and now the only reason I have to check it out is to see if there are any options "not yet" enabled that might possibly be the controller inversion...

What, on Sunday?  What kind of crazy mail service are you using?

Also, still waiting to hear what other demos await me in a few weeks when it finally arrives.

Ha-ha,  sorry - just ask anyone that knows me - I never know what day it is, lol.  Guess I'm definitely on that early list, this time, since it had to be Saturday that I got mine (man, I wish they'd stop changing the days on me - I swear they do it six or seven times a week!)

Playables on this one:  Destroy All Humans;  Lego Star Wars;  FlatOut;  Dead to Rights II;  Juiced; and "Xbox Live Arcade."

Don't get excited when you see it come in and the "headline" on the front of the disc cover says "17 All New Playable XBox Game Demos" - I really hate advertizing like that!  Apparently, it's the five demos - plus the bunch of them that constitutes the Live Arcade.  I was very, very excited for a very, very brief time...

Meh.

Destriy All Humans is the only one I'm really excited about, though I've heard Flatout is a blast, but everything else is underwhelming (Lego Star Wars only because it's out already).

Thanks Mytocles!  Have a happy Tuersnesday.

I thought XBox Live Arcade was supposed to be a permanent feature of the dashboard when you got it.  Do I need to go through the OXM disc every time ?
