They've said it would release by the end of the month.  It's normally 14.95 with the usual $5 off for preorder.

Do you want to play a game?

Or you can pre-order directly from Introversion and get a downloaded version along with a boxed copy.

And all proceeds go to Introversion (though it does cost $7.50 more)

I'd buy it from introversion for the box, not to mention the ability to install on multiple computer in my house so my friends and I can play big MP matches.

Ordered. Will probably end up being my GOTY. I loved both Uplink and Darwinia.

You certainly can't beat the price they are asking.

So, if I understand correctly, I can buy the boxed version and install multiple copies for LAN play? That would be cool and it would make it much easier to convince my friends to get the game. I imagine if multiplayer is good enough that they will give in and buy their own copies.

Yep, that's what I've heard.

From various beta testers, I think the multiplayer is going to be pretty darn good. There is claim it's one of the most strategic and addicting RTS games in some time. The single player is supposed to be good if you're bored at work, but it's mainly all about the online MP.

The new CGW has a preview on Defcon and says there will be a free update released for the game at launch that includes a leaderboard stat system and tournament. Sweet.

It seems like the Introversion server has overloaded and been taken offline.  I hope I'll be able to download my copy of the game sometime this weekend....  icon_frown

It is activated already. The problem is their servers are swamped and having tons of authenication problems. It still considers me a demo user and I have bought the game.  crybaby

Edit: Now my key is authorized, but I rarely get a server listing. When I do, the game crashes to desktop when the game starts to launch.

2nd Edit: Finally seems to work now. Played an online game with 5 other players and didn't crash. I can already tell that I'm going to get annoyed with other players. By the end of my first match, 4 of the 5 people had quit. They also want to play at the fastest speed setting where it's almost impossible to do anything other than queue up a bunch of nukes and hope they hit their target. Typical I suppose, but it will certainly be a great game with people you know.

Btw, you can download the client off http://www.everybody-dies.com and use your Steam key to authenicate the game without having to actually go through Steam to play it.

I played to the end of the tutorial.

The game is a slow-paced, but tense, RTS with some cool eerie music and sounds. Graphics are archaic by today's standards, but are not ugly. It's classic rocks-paper-scissors gameplay, with nukes as the exception.

The screenshots don't reveal the depth of the game.

Defcon reminds me alot of Moonbase Commander, if you were to strip the games down to their basic mechanics.  Defcon is a much more mature, disturbing game, of course, but both have that "pick up and play" aspect about them that make them good choices for a lunch break game, or something.

I couldn't see playing Defcon exclusively or anything, as one might play other strategy games they enjoy.  It gets old fast.  Fortunately, like Chinese food, it gets new just as fast.

I also love the way they scaled the movement speeds so that running at normal you have time to think... but there's no pause button!

I bought it - after the playing the dem a number of times for the small outlay I felt it was worth it. I do wish you could save ai only games or even pause them - however I guess that is the style and they want to keep the momentum up.

Good game, the demo was incredibly generous as well.
