Actually, it's kind of easy to think up disturbing enemies. Just think of something that should be cute, like babies, or children, and turn them into monstrosities that are out to kill you.

Wasn't there some sort of 'unlock' in DS2 if you played those stupid Ignition mini-games past a certain point? Anyone recall the point and what that got you?

If you have any sort of ignition save, you get some kind of Hacker suit for Dead Space 2. Not sure what it does, but it will probably makes the hacking minigame in DS2 easier, but considering how simple and easy the hacks are, there's not much point to it. I've heard it really doesn't do much, and you'll likely upgrade quickly to a suit with more armor.

what was the deal with needing a completed save game from DS1 to get the plasma cutter? Was that it??

Yes, and it is not functionally different from the medical one you get either. Oh, and I don't think it has to be a completed save either, any ds1 save unlocks it.

Yep, any DS save will make Isaac's plasma cutter available, not just a completed version. Is there really no functional difference to the different gun? Weird, it's not like EA to not make it different, ah well.
I wonder if they ever cover how these mining weapons are so much better? Perhaps Isaac just found hot rodded versions of these mining and medical tools?
edit: And HOLY F(*&! The intro is insane!

I could not tell any difference in my limited play time. Playing on survivalist, so maybe too panicked to notice.

Can I use a saved game copy from someone else's xbox and account? I am certain that I do not have the old save games anymore - I played and completed the original like 2yrs ago.

I have no idea. Oh and I like the way they handle Isaac speaking now. He speaks when it's appropriate, he's a character, but he's not overt. It just makes sense to have him speak. And, most of the time, he's echoing what I'm already whispering, or screaming, in my head. Also, they made Nicole look her age this time around, instead of Isaac the cradle robber.

Did they ever come out and say within Extraction what Lexine was doing? I played through it and didn't pickup on it until afterwards when I read some posts here.
Good to see they aren't abandoning that plotline. Here's to hoping Isaac meets up with them in the game.

Spoiler for Hiden: When they go into the medical bay to get checked out (and they have her blatantly walk around naked ), the Doctor says something about her being different. They don't dwell on it.

I'd be more into this series if the first game was more than a series of fetch quests. It had awesome atmosphere and gorgeous graphics but after doing the same thing constantly it got old. I'm curious though how they're going to follow the ending of the first game considering what happened.

Mine came, but pretty late, between 7 and 8 I think. However, that's not uncommon for our UPS deliveries.
Really effective 1st chapter. Game is going to be the death of me. It's a lot of jump scares, but damn, Visceral is good at jump scares.
The little "catch up" video they made is pretty well done, too.
The refurbished plasma cutter looks to just be just a cosmetic option. You get both cutters, and while I realize I didn't look closely, the upgrade paths looked identical. They sound a little different when shot.
Oh, and learn from my mistake - when you get to the first bench, leave one power node in your inventory.

Always leave one power node. I actually leave two, but I hate missing stuff. Played about halfway through the second chapter, and it's good, creepy fun, as advertised. I was surprised to find myself in the second chapter, actually, as there's no train this time round (and no End of Chapter signal of any kind). The chapters still seem a little long to me, though, if the first is anything to go by. Of course, if there's limited backtracking, that won't matter. I haven't really been looking at previews, so I was also surprised to see the 360 version came on two discs. I'm hoping there's a clean disc swap moment. Also tried the multiplayer, and was underwhelmed. It just seemed too hard to get anything done, no matter what team you were on or how well you're doing.

Some small things that I really like:
You can change the difficulty of the game at any time.
Stasis now slowly recharges, great since enemies come at you more. Stasis also has a bit of an area of effect as well.
The controls work properly now, no weirdness with vsync and mouse control. It also runs smoothly at highest detail settings (no AA) in 1920x1200 resolution.

so the PC version is serviceable? I'm just wondering about the DLC; the PR doesn't mention it coming for the PC version.

EA has its own system for DLC on the PC in place. They've used it well for Mass Effect and Dragon Age, although, those were mainly bioware games.

then there's Burnout Paradise and the Need for Speed DLC support, which was spotty. I think the only way you're absolutely guaranteed DLC from them anymore is to go with the console version.

Put in few hours in last night and I'm liking it a lot. The level of detail of the visuals and the environments is pretty impressive. The sound and lighting also work beautifully together to create a looming sense of dread and paranoia around every corner. I love how little details like the little blue holographic projection that pops up to play audio clips/transmissions casts light down onto whatever you move it over.
The seamless chapter loads, sans tram ride loading this time, is also a nice improvement. The use of monster closets is a small nitpick and there's some sections where it's almost completely predictable that you'll trigger some flood of necromorphs coming at you, but from what I've seen so far I've been impressed.
