new patch

Quote
We're happy to announce that a patch for Dead Space 2 is now available for download! Below you will find the link to download the executable file as well as the patch notes. We are currently finalizing the patch for Steam users and will update this thread shortly when it is available.

* The Elite Engineering Suit will now appear properly after
completing a full-playthrough of the Single Player Campaign.

* Save games will now be recorded, and deducted, properly when
playing the Single Player Campaign in Hardcore mode.

* Support for mouse button binding to movement keys & allowing up
to 8 mouse buttons + mouse button de-bounce fixes

* Unlocks suit and weapon packs which will now be available at the
in-game store at zero cost for players

looks like the PC version gets some DLC at least.

I played through the first chapter last night. WAWAWEEWA! Production values through the roof, everything about the game is awesome so far.

Question though, why are all the weapons available to me at the store already?  Except two which cost credits. Also there's a bunch of suits already available.

What's up with that?

The PC version had a bug that prevented players from getting certain Elite level suits during a replay of the game.

On top of that, players also couldn't get all sorts of content rooms, logs, items and suits that were available for consoles due to EA not releasing that content on the PC.

So, EA released a patch for PC that fixed that issue, and basically gave PC players all those extra weapons and suits.

Avoid the 0 Cost stuff if you want to play the game with the intended balance.

That's.... Really lame and disheartening. If I hadn't popped on here to ask I would have just assumed that was how the game was meant to be played.

So all the stuff that costs money is the legit stuff?

Yeah, although there are some upgraded weapon versions (with icons in the corner of their inventory icon) that cost a reasonable amount, although still less than the basic versions.

A suggestion is to wait to buy any of the upgraded versions or 0 cost versions until after you get the basic version of the weapon in stores.

Certain encounters might not have as much impact if you have early access to some weapons.

Ok how's the controls?  My brother has dead space 1 on pc and the controls sucked.  Has that been improved?  I can get this for $4.95, but if the game play sucks because of bad controls, then I rather pay more for the xbox.

The controls are exactly what you would expect of a third person shooter, in fact, it's done better than a lot of other games. There is none of the input lag that plagued the original port of Dead Space 1.

please send me a gamepad then...

Anyways, got the game for $4.95, thanks to it being on sale for $24.95 on the PC direct download, and a $20 gift card that EA gave me for a C/S problem regarding the EA Active 2.0.

Fun game, graphics are nice, controls are manageable, so far not much happening.  Just got out of the hospital.

Fuck. This. Game.

I hate to be so crass but seriously, I hate this game, at least on the PC.

The game right off the bat rubbed me the wrong way by making all the weapons and suits available for free to compensate for whatever the fuck. Turtle explained it to me but I still don't see the logic of essentially turning the intended game experience into a cheat mode version. So, I had to manually move all the free shit into storage and pretend it wasn't there. Then, there's the other technical issue I've been encountering which is about 50% of the time the game fails to load. I'll just be stuck in a loading screen indefinitely so I have to force the game to close.

However, my hate isn't limited to issues with the PC version. I'm also simply not enjoying the game which I can't believe because I loved the original enough to play through twice. Maybe it's because I'm playing on survivalist (one step above normal) difficulty, I'm not sure, but the gameplay just hasn't evolved whatsoever since the original and it isn't as fun as the first time. I'm still using the plasma cutter which, by all means, is one of the dullest weapons I've ever used in a shooter. The controls are extremely cumbersome, add this to the fact that every room is so dark that generally the only enemies I can see are the ones my light is pointed directly at, and the shooting in this game simply blows. I'm getting attacked at from every side but I almost completely lack peripheral vision.

Almost every enemy I've encountered so far (I just reached chapter 6) is exactly the same as the first game! Okay, for the sake of narrative cohesiveness I'll give this one a pass.

I don't like the new level design. Sure, it's less repetitive and redundant than in the previous game, but it's also way less interesting. Dead Space had an Event Horizon/Aliens motif going on, this one is just rooms with candles and gibberish all over the walls.

There are areas of the game that have been improved. The scripted sequences are awesome and the cutscenes are much higher quality, the graphics of course have been improved as well. However, the gameplay just isn't very fun. Again, maybe my mistake was playing this game on a harder difficulty. It's like they took the worst aspects of Resident Evil and Doom 3 and merged them.

Anyways, sorry to be so negative, but this game left a really sour taste in my mouth. I emailed EA asking for a refund due to the technical issues, we'll see what happens. A shame, because I so loved Dead Space.

Weird, perhaps the technical issues are putting an even more negative slant on this for you?

I like the fact that it's still Dead Space, but very refined. I also like the new locales, and don't worry, as you get more into the industrial areas you'll see architecture that's more similar to the old CEC designed areas of DS1. Remember, right now you're just travelling through

How far are you in the game so far? Are you using TK and stasis? Try the other weapons, you'll find them much more effective than in DS1.

I'm about half way done (ch 6), and I'm not enjoying it as much as I did with the 1st game.  Graphically it looks great.  Controls are fine.  But there's something about it that doesn't grab me.

The story so far seems a bit boring, you don't get that lore that you did in the first game.  It starts to pick up a little around ch 6.

I know both games are on rails, but this one feels like I walk 10 feet, open a door, turn left, walk another 10 feet, OHHHH a zombie! shoot and kill, walk another 10 ft, open a door, turn right, walk another 10 feet, take an elevator, rinse and repeat.

I bet if you could see a map or zoom out and look at the level top down, I bet the map is like 100 ft around, your just stuck in a rat maze.

The animations are awesome.  The game play just feels flat.

Naednek, I'm right where you are in the game and that's pretty much how I feel too. You're right about the lore, that's kind of what I meant when I said it lost its Event Horizon/Alien thing. It just doesn't have the same draw this time around.

I can appreciate that they didn't get too ambitious with changing things up. Like you said Turtle, simply refining the original experience is probably better than going wild and adding too many new layers to the gameplay. I'm really wondering if my enjoyment is being hampered by the difficulty level. Lately I've been playing every game on hard mode because I've grown tired of the lack of challenge, but perhaps Dead Space is the type of game where you want to focus on getting drawn into the atmosphere more than overcoming tough enemies.

I thought the game was plenty hard enough on the normal difficulty. Remember that this game is designed so that you'll have better equipment on your second playthrough. The higher difficulties have probably been designed with this in mind.

I'm feeling the same way.  I loved the first game but burned out on this one about halfway through.  I'm probably just going to switch to casual and finish the story.

I tried windowed and full screen. Both have the messed up menu. I decided to just forget it and try the game and see if it was ok. Once I got in and took control of Isaac all it did was spin ms round and round with no way to stop it. It's as if my mouse is stuck to the right and it isn't.

Btw, the joystick issue can happen with just about any game that supports that kind of controller. I'm surprised you didn't know about it in the first place.

And I'm finally done smile  At first I thought the game was boring compared to the original.  It didn't have that special attention that the original had.  But around ch 10 or so it picked up and it didn't help getting a bigger monitor and video card added to the experience.

I loved the ending.

Spoiler for Hiden:
The part where you are rescued from whats her name and after you collect yourself, you suspicially look to your left and give her a questionable look, and she replies with,...  "What?"  I laughed

I'm hoping the next game will have a change of scenery.

Dead Space 2 was originally going to be a tougher game.
