The psychopath boss battles have been pretty unsatisfying thus far. Chuck is slow, plodding and stilted. He can't dodge, block, counter or even sprint with a small burst of speed. Maybe those are skills that you acquire as you level him up, but that inevitably involves grinding and trial-and-error of trying to find the most effective weapon at any given time. The fights just feel like the bosses were dancing around me nimbly or peppering me with ranged shots while I was fumbling to find the right weapon and trying to get some breathing room. One of the bosses I defeated simply because it glitched and he got caught up on the corner of some other object. Some can be skipped, sure, by not taking some of the side missions. On subsequent restarts, I may avoid them when possible.
Given that though, it's still been fairly fun. I like that some maintenance rooms have all the crafting ingredients for new combo weapons nearby so you can quickly and easily see how a new weapon works.

My impression is that you're not really supposed to fight the psychopaths on your first playthrough. You just haven't got the skills or the combination items needed at the point unless you know exactly what you're doing. You later get access to a dodge skill that should help a lot, btw.
Leave the psychos alone and take your revenge when you start over.

I gathered that, after repeated deaths, reloads and restarts. This is a Dead Rising game after all. I'm just trying to save as many survivors as possible at this point and boosting my PPs to level up faster.

Just finished my first playthrough of the game and immediately started another. Got a C-ending, whatever that means. Ended up at level 23, and I now feel confident enough to actually attack psychopaths. Only killed one on my first playthrough, and that was only because I had stumbled upon a cache of assault rifles and shotguns just before. Zombrex becomes less of an issue on the second playthrough. You can gather at least four doses within minutes if you know what you're doing, and even more if you've saved up money from the first round. Since I spent my final few hours gambling big money in a casino, I have a bit of money stashed away for safekeeping. My weapons of choice are now the bowie knife + boxing glove combo for small groups of enemies, and nails + MMA gloves for larger groups. Works very well. Trying to figure out a way to earn PPs fast, as I notice I'm not getting much at the beginning of a new game. At least I've already managed to gather a few of my choice weapons, two Zombrex and two painkillers before even handing in the first Zombrex dose.

Man, trying to do everything is tough! I've gotten to chapter 2 on my second playthrough now and have managed to do every subquest I've heard about plus taken down a psychopath who wasn't advertised until he hit me in the back of the head, but several times I've reached my goal with only seconds to spare (literally!). The game suddenly got a lot more tense. Ran into the first real bug I can think of so far. One guy I was trying to rescue told me to kill all the zombies in close proximity before he would join me. The only problem was that he was standing on the only two zombies nearby and he wouldn't move. I also had less than a minute left to get him to join before the mission was canceled, so it was a bit frustrating. I had to hit him repeatedly so he'd get away from the zombies and let them stand up, and by the time I had him on my team he was at less than 20% health. At least I got him back to the safehouse.

My copy arrived today. Just reading the manual was fun. Cannot wait to play this game.
I want to give the DLC a thorough playing though. Have gotten through once (D) and am working through it again. I want to get all the achievements and get to the level cap.
Hoorah! The 4 year wait is over!

Not that you mention what point in the story your spoiler was going to spoil. Had to click to see. Thankfully it didn't spoil anything of much significance even though I'm not there yet.
A good way to take down psychopaths is to use knife blades in combination with painkillers (heals you and reduces damage you take considerably for a while). That might work that the battle you're in as well.

Now that I'm becoming a reasonably high level (25+), the psychopath fights are actually becoming fun and not at all too hard. Being able to dodge is vital though. It's almost surprising you didn't start with that ability, considering how vital it is. You really need it to defeat the guy on the motorcycle, for example.

Rage ... rising. Day 2 Case 4-1 boss battle question for anyone who's gotten past this point: No control issues here, and as a vet of the first game I can definitely say I prefer the mouse and keyboard. Only complaint would be having to shake the mouse to break free of a grapple, which also shakes the camera. I just finished the 4-1 boss when I ran out of time on another case, so I restarted at level 26. I've managed to breeze through the first parts with no problem, picking up every survivor and killing 3 psychopaths with plenty of time to spare. Hopefully this will be my last one before I finish the story, but if not it's always extra PP.

So, I just finished the game properly on my second playthrough... sort of. I seem to have accidentally unlocked a secret mission after the credits at the end which will take me some time to complete. I did every single mission I was given over the radio in the game, as well as a few extra things (the only exception was the poker mission. I just didn't have the time nor the wish to play through a round of Texas Hold'em against three computer opponents. It just feels so random and unsatisfying, and you can play it for 15 minutes then lose everything in 5 seconds just because you had bad luck. And you get pretty much nothing for it anyway). Completing all those missions was extremely taxing, and I could never relax and play around. I always had to focus on the mission at hand or I'd run out of time. I'm currently at level 44, and I do feel a lot more powerful than in the early game.
The story, despite being cliché (on purpose), is actually very well told and executed. I was always looking forward to the next part. Some nice twists, though a few of them were predictable.

I guess it says a lot about the length of time the current generation of hardware has lasted when you've already forgotten what the previous generation looked like. The game is quite good looking on a decent PC. The cutscenes in particular look very nice.

Finally beat it! Got endings A & S and even finished the overtime mode. All in all, a pretty fun (if not occasionally frustrating) experience. Level 30, 24 survivors and 2905 zombies.
The last fight (not in overtime) was tedious and cheap, so glad they let you run back down to re-supply and re-arm. They could have easily been total bastards and locked you into an arena type battle which could really have been rage-inducing.

Victory is mine! Just finished Overtime (took me an hour) and got the S ending. 47 survivors, and I believe I killed all the psychopaths. The credits got way more interesting music with this ending than with the C version. The Overtime boss was one of the more interesting bosses in the game. Took him down on my first attempt, but it was a damned close call. I think I had one health left when he finally went down. Spoilers for those who have reached chapter 6 (I think). You know, the one that changes things. If you're there, you'll know what I mean. Ended up at level 45. I might just restart to finish reaching level 50, but not yet. All in all, I really enjoyed the game for the 25 hours Steam says I've played it. A little tip for those of you playing through the first time: If you reach a mission in the main storyline that you find frustratingly difficult, stop! It only gets worse from there. Enjoy exploring the city for your first playthrough and save the story for the second. The final bosses were certainly difficult enough at level 44. I was expecting to unlock some alternate modes after winning the game, but it doesn't look like I did. That's a shame, but I still got plenty of value from the game.

What's the deal with the Playboys? Are they just ads scattered throughout the mall or is there something more available (i.e. Mafia II-style collectibles)?

Finally finished my first play through, S ending, level 42. Really enjoyed the game, but the psychopaths were not nearly as good this time around. I won't even mention the cheap as hell overtime boss battle. Overall I liked the mechanics and setting of this one better, but the story and characters are not nearly as good as the first one.

Had an awesome dream last night. In companion to playing DR2 I'm reading Max Brooks: World War Z: An oral history of the Zombie war. So naturally I dreamed about Zombies. I was at my mom's house and my old boss was there for breakfast. For some reason my boss was eating pizza with bananas on top. We here some rustling outside and notice a female zombie. My parents and my boss are like 'you take care of this.' So I grab a heavy frying pan (straight from WWZ) and bash it's head in after a few blows. Then we notice five or ten zombies coming up the bike path and I'm like, 'boss you're gonna have to help me.' So she starts laying into the zombies with some weapon of some sort, though she ends up acting more like a survivor from DR2...sort of just pushing through them rather than killing them. I bash another zombie and think 'this frying pan sucks. I should use the sledgehammer.' So I pull one out of my inventory and obliterate a zombie's head with it. I make quick work of the other 10 zombies and we went back inside and I headed off to work. Pretty awesome.

just started to play this game and enjoying it a lot,i got a certain way trough the game and then got killed and opted to start the game again so my level carries over,i am currently level 14...and on the survivor AI,much better dabbled online and was pleasantly surprised as it was a lot of fun,it played out like a mini tourny battling 3 other players 1 game-Pounds of Flesh- had you wearing the Mooses head and you had to charge at the Zombies and then flik them on to some scales with your head, the more weight you get on the scales the better another game-Slicecycles- was the same as the beginning of the main game where you are on a Rally bike with chainsaws and you have to kill the most zombies 1 game -Zomboni-had you in a sluce vehicle, you had to run over Zombies to get their blood, and then fire the blood at the targets until the blood ran out,and then repeat and the last game-Master Shafter- i wasn't keen on,you had to run to a target on the floor and then do a QTE,the player who does the best combination then goes on to impale Zombies, the most Zombies impaled the better in the end i came last ..but it was my first time,so at least i got used to everything haven't tried the other games yet

Beat the game tonight playing co-op with Fumble. Finished at level 37, beat Overtime, and got ending S. Much more fun co-op than it would have been alone.
