that ninja looks cool, but for me the whole game will be decided by the controls when you need to use a gun.  if it's the same as DR1 then I'm out, but if it's changed (for the better) then I'll be in.

I don't see how they couldn't have improved it. I mean next to the save system it was what people complained about most.  I just used knives and stab weapons. Problem solved!

there was at least one part that I found where you needed to use a pistol: that fight in the food court where the bad guy was shooting you from above.  I found the shooting mechanic to be so clunky in that part I ended up calling it quits to avoid further annoyance.  I don't really remember the save system though, wasn't it checkpoint based?

the save system, you had to keep running to the bathroom if you wanted to save and you couldn't make multiple saves, you just had to rewrite over them....like SL though i was fine with that and thought people had other complaints about the save system that i wasn't aware of

and you used a gun for him?screw that!!!...i found the Katana on a canopy(?) and then climbed up to where he is(there are boxes to climb to get to his level) and struck him down, takes 5 seconds(absolutely twatted him with it...it can be difficult making sure to get to him to start striking before he turns and fires)...no second stage, goes straight to the cutscene.....i did that about 20 times on the run(starting the game over),to build up my level to make my game easier icon_biggrin.........there is also a sub machine gun in that food court on top of the entrance to where people sit down to eat their food(near where the other good guy was hiding behind, after he gives you that gun)...but i used the Katana for a good part game, especially as it respawned in the same place, when you walked out and in of the area,so i had 4 Katanas at once in my Inventory

I don't think the ESRB rated it yet, but when they do it should give you an idea if there is nudity or not.  IIRC DR1 had 'partial nudity' listed in it's rating.

Kind of silly isn't it that nudity would be a cause for concern when you can perform zombie genocide with 2 chainsaws on the end of a canoe paddle while wearing a dead moose head as a helmet.

Well, I've had issues with pornography since I was 9.  I have however, had no issues containing my zeal for chainsaw drawing and quartering of the undead.  So, no, not silly.

Famitsu have given the game three 9's and an 8(so 34/40)

incase you are not already aware, there are 4 pieces of DLC on the marketplace, all free(only a few MB each)

they are called Free Pack- Ninja,Sports fan,Soldier and Psycho

they have this description with them
Quote
This free pack is necessary when playing co-op with someone who owns the "Skills Pack - Psycho" downloadable content. Once you install it, you will be able to play co-op with someone who has the "Skills Pack - Psycho" content pack. (This free pack does not allow you to wear the "Skills Pack - Psycho" costume on your own character. This pack is not necessary if you have already downloaded and installed the "Skills Pack - Psycho" content pack.)

i couldn't see any Skills Pack on there,so i just downloaded all 4,here is the link for the xbox.com marketplace page for them(may have to change it to 'US' or wherever you are,not sure)
http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/games/media/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802434307ec/?p=1&of=3&bt=0&sb=1#offers

EDIT:apparently the skill packs come with pre-orders and there are 4 of them,so straight away we miss out on at least 3 of them...first i have heard of these pre-order skill packs TBH

As long as it scores 7s or above I'm keeping my (non CE) pre-order.

Still have to play through the dlc though. Have just had no time.

Still SO excited about this game.

IGN UK-8/10
http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/112/1123121p1.html

i looked on metacritic for Dead Rising 1 scores, see if they thought DR1 was better or the other way round, and to be honest the scores are mostly similar(ATM)

Regular IGN (ie normal IGN) also gave it an 8/10.

Closing Comments
Again, Dead Rising 2 has issues. It’s not the smoothest game and it can feel like the last one, however that doesn’t mean a thing when the game’s this much fun. Using a car battery and a Street Fighter mask to electrocute the undead and a set of knives and a pair of boxing gloves to make Wolverine claws are all great times. Watching Chuck get covered in blood as he slays thousands of zombies, changing outfits so that one minute you’re in a toddler clothes with a LEGO head and the next you’re in a sundress, and listening to completely whacked out boss stories – that’s what I remember about Dead Rising 2. Any issue the game might have just falls to the backburner.

This line is what's making me think I don't need DR2:
Quote
Dead Rising 2's strict game clock might seem like a burden to some as they rush from place to place balancing the story and the side missions, but to me, it just inspires dreams of my next playthrough. I can't tell you the number of times I thought "Well, next time I'm going to…" or "I wonder what would happen if I didn't give him that…" The game is screaming to be played again and again.

I don't want to be made to play it again and again.  I don't want to get to parts of the story that I'm not meant to play through until I've leveled up (or worse, finish the game), unless I can go grind and come back.  The clock won't let you do that, so it seems you're not meant to see that part until next time.

I know some people like that element, but it was the biggest turn off for me from the original.  I played through a large part of the beginning multiple times to get to a point where I could finally play the game.  That's stupid, IMO.

Although this screenshot...

the time does annoy me,so this is a game for me that especially needs a guide,i know i wouldn't be able to do it without,or at least see the most i can

i opted for Halo Reach today...i picked up DR2 in the store and had a look at the case etc,but will get it another day(christ knows when though)

off topic:
what's the difference between IGN and IGN UK...i try all i can to go to normal IGN,and everytime it goes to IGN UK...that link, you provided sent me to the IGN UK review link...when i try googleing IGN and i click on IGN.COM..it sends me to the UK one(uk.ign.com)...all i can think is that its IP region related, but can you guys get on the IGN UK one?

EDIT:that moose head you can use in DR:CZ..its very handy actually, that's how i got all my money by equipping that head and going to the slot machines and smashing them open....wonder how much you could make at Fortune City that way,LOL

When I use uk.ign.com, it takes me to the "UK Edition" of IGN.

I'm not sure that you're missing content, though.  If there are special UK reviews, I see them in the regular IGN site, usually.

DR1 killed my enjoyment with the time limit and having to play multiple times to actually see the real game and it looks like DR2 has the same mechanic so I am out

i am disappointed a bit after reading the review.  sounds like the plucked the exact same game structure in a new coat of paint and level design rather than change any of the fundamentally annoying aspects that drove me off the first one.

time limit?  i really hated this mechanic as i was rather hoping for a longer game, not going through replays like a checklist to get the best whatever.

save stalls?  again, an annoyance that stood in the way of playing the way i hoped to.
long load times are to be expected but it will be that much more annoying to replay sections lost to the save mechanism and replay system.

i really hope the survivor ai has been beefed up as it was a constant pita to have to babysit those damn idiots back across the park with not only a S-ton of npc-seeking zombies but a jeep sporting a couple of maniacs and a machine gun that never ran out of ammo.  it was at that point that i just said F it and resolved to not bother rescuing people too stupid to: not load into the zone with the rest of us while standing not 5 feet away from the door, not bothering to run for their life and just let the zombies beat them to death instead of using the sledgehammer i had just given them and making me run back to save them to no avail as they sat there sobbing in the corner like a couple of babies.

but by far, the boss fights against other humans was the worst part of the first game.  when you can split a dozen zombies heads with one swing of a katana, having to wear down an unarmored human enemy with an impossible health bar and knack for soaking gunshots and high physical damage really breaks the flow of the game, and it only makes it worse that you have to do this if you want to continue the story.  it also is why i shelved the first one and haven't wanted to go back.

glad i have resorted to renting this.  disappointed that capcom didn't set their aim higher.

FWIW-in DR:Case Zero the Survivor AI was great,a million times better than DR1...it even had you rescuing two bikers who would actually smack the hell out of the zombies as they followed you..and even when the 2 girls who was following you, while you carried the third actually tried to avoid the Zombies instead of dancing with them like in DR1,it actually made me want to rescue them all in DR:CZ...here's hoping it's the same for DR2

This was my biggest complaint with the first game and it looks like the solved it. Now I feel like I actually have a chance of saving all the survivors.

Picked up my copy and put in about 1.5 hours last night. Imported my Case Zero save (which carried my stats, skills and money over) and got to the zombie killing goodness. I don't know how much bigger they said they've made Fortune City compared to the mall in the first game, but by comparison it feels pretty cavernous (obviously, a city versus just a mall) with a variety of different areas like jungle/forest like section in the middle of the map. I can tell already it's gonna be pretty fun exploring every corner of this place and seeing what kind of crazy stuff you can use/wear from the stores.

The 2-3 survivors I've been able to save, surprisingly, weren't just sandbags you had to drag around. Other than instances where they got overwhelmed by a crowd and you had to help out, they seemed pretty good about keeping up with you and more importantly being able to defend themselves by actively pushing zombies away and using weapons.

All in all, it's pretty much like the first game but with little enhancements and refinements to make it a better, and arguably less punishing, experience. By the time I put the game away and got to catching up on sleep, I had my pink halter, blue mini-skirt and Davy Crockett coonskin cap on plowing down zombies on my little pink girl's bike. Good times.

Boo.  Goozex was swamped last night, and by the time I got in, I was 100 in the queue.  I'm starting to regret having traded a game on goozex with the expectation that I'd be able to get another new game.  At this point, I just want to ditch the points.   mad

According to a Google search, there will be, at least, a Playboy Club with Playboy bunnies, billboards featuring Playboy covers, and stat upgrades tied to collecting Playboy magazines.
Thats assume!

awesome even!

Boo.  Goozex was swamped last night, and by the time I got in, I was 100 in the queue.

You can't be a day 1 guy and bother with goozex. You'll have it by Christmas. I think I'm in the slot in front of you, was 99 at the time the web page refreshed. showing 81 now and 10 restricted in front of me so an effective 71.

I just hope this is better than the other game I tried to get off goozex.  I put Resonance of Fate on my queue in March, was around 115, and by two weeks ago, I was still 18th in line.  I don't mind waiting, but waiting six months is nuts.

Turnover time on a game is directly related to the game type and popularity. I guarantee DR2 will turn over faster. If you need it faster, create 99 new accounts and offer the game up, while those 99 people are cursing that the game isn't showing up, you'll get the first available copy. slywink I'm surprised that doesn't happen to me more often. Yeah, that's what I'm counting on.  It's not like it could turn over much slower!  biggrin

Of course, now I'm considering just using my Best Buy gift cards and getting the PC version for $20.  Assuming Best Buy carries the PC version.

Any thoughts on PS3 vs 360 in the looks department? I plan to pick up the game, just not sure which system. I suppose there is always Steam but I do love zombies on the big screen.

Every article I've seen says the 360 version is noticeably better.

I bought the PC version instead, looks and runs awesome.  Really great and fun game, but I loved the first one too.

Played for about 1 1/2 hours today and the love is back. DR1 was my favorite early 360 game and I can already tell this one is going to be just as good (though I'm playing it on the PS3).
