IN!

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/44628/Dead-Rising-2-Announced-For-PC-Consoles

Quote
Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that Dead Rising 2 is in development for three different gaming platforms: the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment’s PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) and the PC. The sequel to the 1.5 million-plus selling Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2 will take the franchise to a new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies, the all new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore and conquer plus a host of new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie assault.

Dead Rising 2 is set several years after the infamous zombie invasion of Willamette. Unfortunately, the zombie virus was not contained at the conclusion of Dead Rising, spreading unchecked throughout the United States and Dead Rising 2 depicts a country where zombie outbreaks continue to strike.

Dead Rising 2 is being developed in partnership with up and coming Canadian developer Blue Castle Games. A number of members from the original Dead Rising team will be working alongside Blue Castle Games throughout the development process, including Capcom’s global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, who as the game’s Producer will play an active role in the project.

maybe they can have a nod to ubisoft and have some rainbow squaddies show up as characters.  biggrin

glad to hear that this was finally announced.  now i can look forward to a good zombie game without feeling regret about not playing the first one much.

i still have the first one to get through(in a cool steel tin,not the crappy style tins, but a cool slick one, that goes well with Bioshock),its one of the few games that i never traded in,as i eventually wanted to get through it

i have got about half way through several times, and then gone off and started to play something else..the good thing is ,is that from those games it keeps your level,so when i start a new game now,i am level 37 straight away icon_wink

not sure why everyone was uposet with the saving system, but i found it fine,FWIW i hope they change it to what other people like,as it did hurt the game somewhat...same with the small writing, which never bothered me either

They'd have to really screw this one up for me not to be in on day 1.

If they remove the time limits and craptarded save system I would like to check this out.

Well, there's no camera, that's a plus.

I understand the save system, I just think it was implemented poorly.  Give us a choice, or a more lenient option for people who actually have lives.

I think the Wii-make version of this did away from the camera and the time limits and the save system, so I would be extremely shocked if they put them back in for the sequel.

Am I misremembering the save system? As I recall you could save anytime in a bathroom. Was there something else about it that made it "craptarded"?

It couldn't be any more craptastic than No More Heroes, where you had to actually pull your pants down and sit on a toilet to save the game.

Dead Rising used the urinalsm but I didn't think it was anything to get pissy about.

I think they are talking about how you only had 1 save file, so you could not split your save at a certain point and maybe try a different approach.

Looks like a new character,if that is indeed the new main guy up there

so,taking the camera out only makes sense...as it would be stretching things if another freelance Journalist was in the middle of things, unless of course the main guy from the first one was in this one as well...but then you could get the Die Hard sequel rule number 1....'How can the same shit happen to the same guy....'

i would like them to put in a 'shaun of the dead' action where you can imitate being a zombie and they walk/shuffle right past you,LOL

Agreed.  I have yet to get through a full game.  Also, I'd like to be able to finish all available missions, though that ties in with the timer.

On one hand, the concept of Dead Rising made me giddy. The game itself, the several hours of it I played before quitting in frustration, sucked so mightily I might skip the sequel.

Things I will wait to hear on before I commit:
Fixed save system
Any Humvee's filled with convicts driving around in an enclosed area which I *HAVE* to pass through early in the game, which yield a 90% chance of instant death
Capcom (who now hold the patent on this, btw) 'you are too incompetent to hold a firearm and move at the same time' controls, aka the Brain Damaged Monkey game

You know what, there are other things, but these three are already making me want to drink heavily.

That was the reason I stopped playing the game.  In any story driven game, I dont' want unique enemies respawning, it's just stupid.

I think it would be hellah fun and if they want to sell it to me as an add on later, so be it.

i am playing through the first one now,and by jesus its hard..
Spoiler for Hiden:
.how the froggin' hell are you meant to get all the bombs, with all those Zombies(i swear there are thousands in the maintanance tunnel that you have to wade through) and that S.O.B driving into you as well???
.....and the damn survivors are thick as zombie crap, instead of avoiding the zombies like i do,they run head first into them

i think i am the only one who wasnt excited when they announced that DR2 would have 6000 zombies on screen at once....and may even think that the Wii version of having 5 zombies on screen at once(or whatever it was)..maybe the way to go

as for multiplayer, this isnt the kind of game i would want to have multiplayer...most companies now stick multiplayer on a game just for the hell of it.....i can't say Bioshock needed multiplayer either

Fable2 did the same thing - it does make sense. We're used to being able to explore the garden of branching paths with one run-through; the game devs didn't want all the magic out that easily.

When playing a choose-your-own-adventure, you don't always have to start over, just go back a few decisions. Their game called for some accountability.

I hated the camera, not the save system.

Build up your guy a lot, then die and start over.  Honestly, it's the only chance you have.  I may give this one yet another go, starting over at, IIRC, level 16.

I picked up the original at the last b2g1 free sale, and what's up with the way he grunts while moving?

I got past the fight in the food court (really hated the aiming camera) and then got whacked by the bozos in the jeep before I shelved it for the time being.  I agree with Yahtzee's description of 'having a learning curve that runs into a brick wall'.

Right at the start, get out through the food court and make it to the parking garage, Jump in a car and run down zombies for about an hour solid. The levels you'll accrue will better enable you to actually enjoy the game. There are still plenty of baffling design decisions but I actually had some fun starting in the mid-teens on up. I think level 25 was really where I started enjoying myself somewhat.

This has always been the coventional wisdom and I've always thought it to be baloney. If you start from scratch you can easily make it through the game without dying.  Maybe I'm just a leet zombie killer?

i just wrote a big reply and deleted it by accident so ..here we go again

thanks for all the replies

i have had this game since day one,and its in a swanky steel case..so i have been starting over and over...i started the game at level 31,i am now level 39

right the bombs,i have been using a motorbike from the parking garage, but it doesnt last forever,it blows up if i am lucky at around the third bomb..i have been thinking of ways round this

1-when i have collected the second bomb,go back to the parking garage and get another bike..not sure if this would work though as it is usually Carlito who takes out the bike when i am not on it with a grenade while i am getting the bomb from the truck

2-i read that the 5th truck that houses the 5th bomb(me clever me is),hasnt had its tyres slashed....so i was thinking maybe i could go find that truck first, and use that to find the remainder bombs, again not sure if it would work

Lettuce, how do you take out Carlito?..actually i may go and check Youtube

CK-do you know where the Cafe is where Kent the Photographer is?..if you jump out of that window, onto the orange Canopy or whatever they are called, there is a katamari(or something like that...a samurai basically)...i use that for the first run in with Carlito, just run round where he is,climb up the boxes and slash away at him.....takes about 20-30 seconds from the start of the fight, there is nop second part to the fight...its a great weapon..and when it breaks, you can always go and get another one at the same place

here you go CK for both the Uzi and the Katana(yeah i knew it started with a K)..he gets his Uzi from a different place than me though

also,at the food court, where you and brad first are,the arch on your side has a Uzi there, and again it will always be there when you go to the food court

EDIT:Youtube for the win......i jjust saw that you CAN get into the 5th truck, the guy on the video doesnt follow the guide arrow

right the bombs,i have been using a motorbike from the parking garage, but it doesnt last forever,it blows up if i am lucky at around the third bomb..i have been thinking of ways round this

That's problem number one. You should be using a car.  Far more durable.

You can shoot him while drives or wait for him to run into an obstacle and cut the heck out of him while he's stopped.  IIRC, you can also destroy his vehicle.

Don't bother with guns. Dual mini chainsaws for the win. It destroys everything and you can get books that increase their durability hugely.  On my first play through I didn't use them and it was much harder...
