Aw well, my bro got me C&C: Red Alert 3 instead. This is still on my list, but perhaps I'll wait for another Steam sale before I enlist.  icon_smile

I think we have enough for a few friendly 3v3's.

so, I picked this up during Steams weekend sale and have played a couple of missions.  am I missing something or is there no way to save during a mission?  my second mission took about 32 minutes and that was without me exploring the whole map; I'd hate to have to dump a missions progress because I didn't have time to finish it.

Nope, not missing anything - you cant save between missions. usually, they take no more than 30 minutes to play tops, so you should be good most of the time. But its a bit of an annoyance, yes

that could be really annoying if you lose a mission in the last few minutes or the game crashes.  heck, the second mission I went on I managed to just barely beat the boss, and that was with only my squad leaders surviving thanks to having a good supply of stimulants.

I remember it being a little irritating in the beginning, but once you get down the art of proper retreat, you'll more or less breeze through the majority of the missions.

It's not running away, it's treating the enemy to a nice view of your well rounded, and metal plated, posterior over and over again.

Oh, and don't bother trying for the speed points, you'll get more for Fury and Resilience if you go through and kill everything and keep your squad commanders alive.

Also, in the campaign losing a mission isnít always a bad thing.  You retain your experience and loot which means if you play the same mission again it SHOULD be easier.  The exception to the rule is if youíre playing on one of the higher difficulties and you lose repeatedly the enemy starts to build up in strength.

So L9, ChrisGrenard, and I have been playing this regularly.  Tonight and were being pitted against a lot of new players what with all the sales and presents.

We ran into an Ork player who built 9 squads of shootas (9 x 5 per squad = 45 Orks in the group), and ran them around in one giant blob.

Around that same time, Chris got himself a Distort Cannon, which has an ability called singularity which sucks everything into a black hole in an area.

This is the result:

Normally the black hole isn't that great.  You can hear it charging up to do this attack usually, there's a big indicator on the ground where it hits well before it shoots too.  But in this case, I don't think the player knew what was happening, and normally you try not to stick a bunch of units in one spot.

I'd love to see a pic of the look on that players face when he got pwned.

I just picked this up for 7 bucks on that crazy sale a few weeks ago.  It's fantastic!  I suck at RTS, but the squad sizes and lack of resource management make it my kind of game!  Love the RPG elements.

pretty much a no brainer, but THQ just extended the WH40K deal, so there should be plenty of Dawn of War to come.

Considering Dawn of War almost single handedly saved Game Workshop's stock value twice, I'd say it was a good idea.

I just picked up the gold pack at amazon and man I love this game.  It's such a nice take on the genre without having to worry about resource management and base building.  I only wish you could take more "units" out at one time.  For the Emporer!!
