I’m referring to this:

Which if I’m not mistaken is a Lictor.  If I recall that’s fairly standard infantry as opposed to a super unit like the Bloodthirsty was in DOW1.

I don't think that's a Lictor.  The Lictor was the thing that came up behind the SM commander in the video.  It looks more like a Carnifax or a Hive Tyrant but it's a little too small.  Hmmm - I wonder if it's a Tyranid Warrior with only melee weapons.

In the tabletop game I think you can only field one Lictor at a time and it's very steathy so I don't think you'll be seeing losts of Lictors in DoW2

Maybe a Hive Tyrant?  That would make it the race commander right?  Which would be a HUGE commander unit.

EDIT
Actually I did find this model picture of a Carnifex, so you might be right there.  Which would be more of tank unit.

If that was crouched over more and the spiky bits were touching the ground it would look pretty close to the screenshot.
Course…they all look pretty similar to me on comparison…

As someone who plays said tabletop game...

The 2 images posted by Lordnine are a 3rd edition Hive Tyrant and a 4th edition Carnifex. The image posted by ROTC is a 4th edition Lictor, And the screenshot posted by Lordnine is a Carnifex.

What I'll be really interested to see is if they allow for giving units different biomorphs for close combat or ranged shooting.

Considering how a lot of DoW2 is based around customizing a smaller number of squads in more diverse ways, I'd say yes, you could give them different biomorphs.  After all, Space Marines get wargear, Tyrannids have to evolve their own equipment.

I'm really interested to see how they handle multiplayer in this version.  I really, really like the multiplayer in Relic games.  CoH is getting a bit old for me and I want to try a scifi/fantasy RTS with squad usage.

the sp-campaign is SM-only.  I'm not optimistic on whether that stuff makes it into mp.

Gamespy does another PREVIEW.

I recommend watching the multiplayer video that is embedded in the middle of Page 1.  The last 50 seconds or so is especially awesome.

God, I love Relic.

For those of you that don't visit OO, and don't know about this:

This video from IGN is certainly worth watching.

LINK

Also of note is that a multiplayer beta/demo is due out January 21st/28th.

Hopefully for multiplayer balancing that leads to a Day1 patch!

Realistically though, Relic is pretty slow in patching, so it'll probably be for a Month1 patch  icon_wink

How will steam know I own Soulstorm to let me into the Demo?  I didn't buy my Soulstorm via Steam.

The gamekey or whatever it's called.  I think it's supposed to ask you to enter it somewhere.

On your Games tab in Steam, there should be a button at the bottom to 'Add Retail Product'.

Just type in your Soulstorm key (dashes and all) and Steam should now recognize you own Soulstorm.

Come Wednesday, the DoW2 beta should show up in your games list to download.

FYI, Relic is working on adding this feature to all of the Dawn of War games, so you should be able to add the other three games to your Steam client in the near future.

Go to your games tab and click on Activate a product on steam.  Type in your CD key.  The game will start to download from steam but you can cancel it.

Yeah, just found that on the DOW2 forums.  I find that a little confusing.  Theres no telling which products you can 'add' to steam and which you can't.

It depends on the individual deal between Valve and the publisher.

THQ seems to have made a deal where if you buy a retail copy, you can link and download it via steam.

Others didn't choose that route.

So far, it only works with Soulstorm.  Thanks to the link CeeKay provided, it would seem my attempt to reg other games was futile. smile

Can't wait to see this game tomorrow.  I've got a good feeling about it.   I think I'll miss the base building...but the rest of it should make up for it.  This looks to be even closer to the scale of W40k than Dawn of War was.

FYI, keep an eye out for this unlocking today. A THQ rep stated (on a German site) that it was unlocking at 00:01 GMT, which is 7:00pm EST.

Steam may adjust for timezones or they may not, but there's certainly a chance for it to be released tonight!

To be specific, that's the closed beta available only to Soulstorm owners that will be unlocking tonight.  Steam doesn't correct for time zones, so most likely it'll be tonight.

I'm really not sure how the online will work.  they've stated they're using Windows Live.  So, I guess if we already have each other on the Live friends list there we should be able to play each other.

I'm PicTurtle on Live, I should already have all of you on my list.  If not, add me please.

Correct.  As long as it appears in your Purchase history as either 'Retail', 'Gift/Guest Pass', or 'Steam Store'  you should have access to the beta.

My externally purchased (but reg'd through steam) copy is listed as 'Retail'.
