I have to admit I have not been following this title's progress much, considering what a huge Relic fan I am.

But I believe this article to be one of the most detailed we've seen yet on the game?

Anyway, link to IGN if you're interested.

So far so good, a lot of the changes mentioned are things I want to see in DoW2.

What sounds good is the lack of base building, which I hate in RTS games.  Also the emphasis on more individual squads and characters might actually make me finish the campaign, as with most RTS games I buy I never finishe the campaign for.

Yummy.

I like how gunfire now ricochets off armored targets now, it has a nice feeling to it.

I hope they release some of the other races soon, I will be really disappointed if I can’t be pointy eared and sneaky.

It’s unlikely they wouldn’t be included but they don’t seem overly popular of the relic forums.

I'm as excited as the next guy about Starcraft II...

But don't forget about this bad boy.  (actually seems focused on more tactical combat as opposed to SC2's bigger scale)

July10 IGN Article Link

Here's just a snippet:

"In a departure from most RTSes out there, this game won't feature any base building in its single-player campaign, or at least from what we've seen so far. Before starting out on a mission, you pick which squads you'd like to bring with you, and that's it. The squad leaders hit the field of battle with two lesser units in their group, and that's basically what you've got to work with."

Game trailers just posted their E3 videos.  Eldar are confirmed for DoW2.  Nothing else though.

As a brief Company of Heroes freak (late 2006, early 2007) who also bought Dawn of War (but not its expansions), I guess my only concern is that the system requirements will remain more like what you'd expect for Crysis and that might make it end up a relative sales disappointment like COH. Now that I can run COH like a dream, I'm just not as interested in playing it as I was around the time it launched. It would kill me if Relic's latest requires $700 in dual SLI Crossfired gobblydegook to be playable.

I still have a hard time envisioning Relic doing a completely "non base building" RTS. Base building is just embedded in their DNA as a dev. I've read some UK magazine articles on the game, and like the IGN piece they say there doesn't seem to be base-building, "based on what we saw." So I'll be curious if it really is a non-base building game like Ground Control and World in Conflict, or if it just doesn't emphasize base building much in its early missions.

My favorite Company of Heroes missions had little or no base building involved, which is why I lost interest as the campaign moved more deeply into "build a gigantic base and rush everything you have at the enemy" RTS stereotypes). Another decent military RTS, Act of War, had some really fun, no-base-building missions early on but once it slipped into base-building overdrive, it simply lost me.

Pretty much, that'd be what a Hive fleet looks like from space.

In the single player campaign, there is no base building.

However, they haven't said what will be in the multiplayer though.  They did say there would be a tech tree in multiplayer, but no specifics.

I love the games but have'nt done any other Warhammer stuff. Who are the Tyranids? From the skull look of the clouds and the moon as an eye I was thinking Necrons.

And I love base building. I love harvesting too. Ever since the first C&C games Ive loved both concepts.

EDIT: Oh..after watching that video for like the 12th time....why is the Space Marine's armor so useless? It looks chunky and strong yet those Eldar swords go right through it. Even a single bullet can pass right through. Why bother wearing it if it doesn't do a damn thing? smile

Well, they've been wearing the same type of armor for centuries.  Their enemies have figured out weapons that get around it.  Same thing with the space marines and the Eldar's armor.  Why wear it? Because it's better than nothing.

On beauty I think Blizzard pulls ahead in CGI videos. But if you look for detail..the grit and grim of war..then Warhammer cgi really takes the win.  The commander's face as he is telling the witch that this planet is theirs is just remarkable. You feel the battles and the battle he just went through that he has seen.

Not sure if this new was made by them but the first one was made by Blur Studios. Also made the other warhammer CGI video which was really good so wouldn't be surprised if they made this one also.

I dunno, I don't think this looks like a Blurr production.  There's been a rise in small studios that take on stuff like CG introductions as of late, so it could be a different company.

Love it.  Tyranids are far from my favorite race but they look to be quite interesting.  I think it’s the scale of the units that I like the most, makes them far more imposing then the other races.

How is their scale any different than any other race?  There were lots of regular soldier-sized units running around and that large one is no different than a Dreadnought as far as I can tell.

I think he means the scale of a purely organic unit with diamond edged claws and various abilities that allow it to shoot out spines as fast as bullets.
