Using a sub machine gun on Roman soldiers?..about time!

Quote
In Darkest of Days, players travel back and forth through the annals of time to relive some mankindís most dire hours, when human society was at its lowest points. By fighting through terrible events such as The Battle of Antietam, the bloodiest conflict of the Civil War, and the volcanic eruption in Pompeii in the year 79, the player attempts to save certain key individuals who were never meant to become involved in these truly monstrous events and thereby change human history for the better.

I first heard about this almost 2 years ago. I love the premise but it seems to be taking forever and their is still no release date.

there's a demo due tomorrow.  I'll give it a try but the premise sounds kinda stupid.

tried the demo.  feel pretty meh about it, especially since they try to force you to sit through an unskippable trailer at the end.  I had to ctrl-alt-del to the task manager to stop it.  maybe I'll grab it when it's on sale, I imagine it'll probably get a decent discount during their holiday sale.

on a side note, it's scary to think that the sale is close enough to start putting off stuff just in case.

Same meh from me. The controls felt off to me for shooter. The graphics were not all that great and there were some odd pop-in animations like at the very beginning where arrows raining down on you appear out of no where. I almost stopped playing the demo - then the sci-fi stuff happened, which got me interested enough to play the rest of it.

My opinion slightly improved but not enough to buy it. I liked the Civil War theme, and mowing down enemies with a futuristic machine gun was kinda fun. But there were some jarring moments where the game would all of a sudden turn in to an on-rails shooter. When you were left to your own devices you had to get to certain points on the map to get the game to move forward. This even goes for an escort mission where you are required to head in to a trench to get to the next point to advance the story when you probably could have just as easily went around the trench and avoided the Confederate in the trenches.

When its on Steam for $5 I'd probably consider picking it up. Or better if it arrives on GameTap.

I dunno. I think the premise sounds pretty cool. Going back to historical battles and mowing people down with modern weapons could be really fun!
I just now downloaded the demo and played for a few minutes.
Controls seem tight. Graphics seem good, but my system isn't quite up to it at 1920 x 1200.
Destructoid gives the demo a generally favorable review.
Release date set at Sept 8.

I can't remember, but I think they explain it to you in the demo.

4.0 from IGN UK.  sounds like crap in a box, and not the good w00t.com crap either.

The guys with the blue glow are people who, historically, made it through the battle alive.

There are a lot of cool ideas in this game, but between IGN, Team Xbox and even Gamezone, it looks like a stinker.  Someone on Destructoid (IIRC, or maybe it was Giant Bomb) actually kind of liked it despite the multitude of problems, but still didn't recommend getting it.

EDIT: It was Cheap Ass Gamer.

I bought via steam after playing the demo.

I'm actually really enjoying it...it's not a bad game at all so far 6 missions in.  Rather enjoyable.

Just realize it's a single player shooter without free roaming action and well, it's a good one for what is it.

Also enjoying it quite a lot, in spite of reviews being all over the place.
Possibly the bad reviews are mostly for the 360 version, where the game suffers from bad framerates and long load times. (45 seconds load for the 360 and 4 seconds for the PC).

Anyway, looks and plays great on my midrange PC.

One thing I can't figure out is how to upgrade weapons. After each mission, I get points to spend on weapons upgrades, but the upgrades menu doesn't seem to do anything. I can click on something that says "2 points", and 2 of my points will be used, but it doesn't add anything to the weapon I just clicked on. The points remain the same.
