Holy crap! From the makers of Arx Fatalis come Dark Messiah of Might & Magic using the source engine!

Quote
oday Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announces the development of Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, a new first-person action game for the PC, powered by an enhanced version of the Source Engine, the award-winning game technology Valve created to power Half-Life 2.
Developed by Arkane Studios, the team behind the critically acclaimed Arx Fatalis game, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic puts players in a first-person perspective, allowing them to immerse themselves in the legendary Might and Magic universe as never before. It is also the world's first fantasy action game to feature a complete first-person combat system. It takes full advantage of the Source&153; Engine's exceptional technological enhancements in areas such as character animation, advanced AI, real-world physics and shader-based rendering.

Ubisoft acquired the Might and Magic brand in 2003, and Dark Messiah of Might & Magic is the second title Ubisoft will be launching as it restores this famed franchise to glory. Dark Messiah of Might & Magic is scheduled for a summer 2006 release and will be shown for the first time at the Games Convention in Germany on August 17, 2005

Why get excited?  It's Hexen 3, or worse, Crusaders of Might and Magic 2.

Why?  Because the same developers did a pretty good job with Arx Fatalis.  And I think the engine will allow for more depth than Hexen gameplay even if it is all action.

Wow - thanks for setting the rest of us straight!  I wouldn't want to get excited over a game Lord Ebonstone disapproves of... no no, can't have any of that.

You know, Laner, I don't recall running over your cat or pissing on your front door, so I don't understand what problem you have with me.

As a person who really enjoyed the Might and Magic games, I'm sad to see Ubisoft squandering the IP on an FPS, especially since that's been attempted already with disasterous results.

Maybe the press release is wrong and this'll be closer to Arx Fatalis than Crusaders of Might and Magic.  Or maybe it'll be ass.

In either case, I'm pissed that it's not an RPG like the Might and Magics before it.

And if that gets your panties in a bunch, stop wearing women's underwear.

There aren't enough FPS fantasy games, so I'm very intrigued by this.   smile  Hopefully it'll come out ok.

Here's a hint, you might want to try to be less negative and condescending and not spout anything before you know anything about the game.  All we know is that it's an FPS.  Who knows, they could make it in the vein of Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (which also used the Source engine).

The only problem I have with you is your condescending attitude towards anything that doesn't meet with your stamp of approval, and your belittling (directly or indirectly) of those that may disagree.  If you don't like a game or a game concept, that's fine - but there's no need to beat people over the head with it or insult them in a passive-agressive manner for having differing tastes.

Wow, very nice looking.  I'm definitely interested in this one too.  Arx Fatalis was a very enjoyable game.

Theres 2 video interviews with Gabe Newell there. Both feature gameplay footage from the game. The 2nd one has some nice stuff in it. One guy casts a ice spell on a ledge and the bad guy slips and falls off lol. Did'nt realize they were using the Source engine.,

The other cool thing in it is that backstab. OMG what a awsome backstab.
