Before you guys ask, I want to preemptively note that there's no Gravis Ultrasound drivers in Win 7.

DOSBox is essentially required - there are instructions linked on that page. I was able to run it just fine on my work computer the other day using those. The game is notoriously buggy of course. But I had sound, graphics including the intro video, and all gameplay elements working fine and running well.

Go grab the game before it gets removed - it has total frontal nudity! Daggerfall is such a classic though. I spent so many hours wandering through the game and its prequel Arena.

I'm guessing it'll be like Arena - it'll be available for download from here on out.

This game was so brilliant when it was released. I definitely enjoyed it more than I've enjoyed the next 2 TES games. But WOW was it buggy. It was hardly worth playing, it was so buggy. If you entered a dungeon, there was a really good chance you'd fall through the floor and die.
But, I made some great spells in that game. Like 1 that let you fly, with your horse. My thief would never get caught by the cops after that.

As buggy as it was it's still the only Elder Scrolls game I have finished. I was even able to use the falling through the dungeon floor bug to figure out how to get out of a dungeon I was lost in.

"Before you guys ask, I want to preemptively note that there's no Gravis Ultrasound drivers in Win 7." What I had forgotten about myself: I used to be a huge Gravis Ultrasound fanboy . Loved that soundcard. It is still the only way Doom should be heard. Back before digitally recorded music was possible without huge performance hits.

First off, you need to download and install DOSBox. Once you've done that, and put Arena into a folder you can easily reach while running DOSBox, you'll need to run the Arena.bat file (or just type in Arena into the DOS prompt).

Geez, don't start here as your first PC gaming experience! Here are the instructions: http://static.bethsoft.com/downloads/games/daggerfall_legal_and_installation.pdfI have quite a bit of experience with the DOSBox emulator, and this was by far the most difficult installation I've run across. --- Edit: Oh, Arena. NVM.

Needs to be a capital D in Daggerfall when you mount the CD. I told them to emphasize this in the instructions, but they didn't listen

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't figure out how to swing my weapon at the first rat in the tutorial. Using the left mouse button just says "You see a rat", and the right mouse button doesn't do anything. I even reconfigured the swing key to Z and that won't work either. What am I doing wrong? I died in the tutorial. This is embarrassing.
Nevermind. Hold right mouse button and move the mouse in the direction you want to swing.

Thanks. I couldn't figure that out either and died a slow and painful death at the claws of that dirty rat.

Actually, dying in the 'tutorial' of Daggerfall isn't that hard to do. You start off WEAK right off the bat. Of course, that made the game much more fun, too.

I remember the first preview I saw for Daggerfall. It looked amazing, but I was disappointed I couldn't play it because it required 8 MB of RAM
