I can't believe no-one talks about this here?

Cubeworld is a voxel-based roleplaying game with no boundaries, class system, pets, and what have you.

Don't get fooled by the minecraft looking terrain - it does not feature building, digging and the like, but more an open world that never ends, full of monsters, creatures you can tame, towns, quests, dungeons, caves, castles and tons of other neat stuff.

The developer has had so much success with his game, that he has had to close registration a few times, so purchasing it may be somewhat tricky, but its totally worth it. Its the most fun I've had in a game in a long time - and this is an alpha!

Anyways - check it out!

Only problem is that the servers have been up and down for a while, making it very, very difficult to create an account, or even buy the game.

I have to say that it's exactly what I was looking for in terms of the minecraft style world, which was more actual fun gameplay in the exploration and combat areas.

However, I do hope they do add back in some more creative aspects.

Also, it seems having a dedicated engine really helps, rather than kitbashing java to handle everything. The framerate, effects and more are all top notch.

Not having building at all seems like a missed opportunity.  Have a full RPG experience and then let people build whole cities to congregate at, trade in and defend.

You guys need to let go of minecraft - It doesnt have a monopoly on voxel graphics and the game is awesome! Let minecraft handle building, and Cube World be the rpg :-)

I like building better.  Tongue

I would also really like someone to take the crown away from Minecraft because it could be soooo much better than it is.

then this is not the game for you. Its that simple. Its like complaining Skyrim has no building. Its not what the game is about.

Edit: you know what - I'm to blame in this as well since I wrote Minecraft in the title - sorry about that!

Skyrim has a lot more going for it than Cubeworld. Also, its version of building is owning houses, having followers.

You can have voxels without the big cube aesthetic that is clearly aping minecraft for some publicity.

I have no idea what we are arguing about, or why. You'll have to continue that particular thing without me, though :-)

Play the game or not - I don't care, but its there, and its very fun, even in Alpha state!

Enjoy!

Play the game or not

I'm leaning towards not with no building in it.

slywink

actually, it's more due to not being able to figure out how to get it.  it appears you have to register on the site, but 'User registrations are currently disabled due to server maintenance. Please try again later.'

Yeah, I'd like to try it out this weekend as well, so hopefully the server issue can be resolved soon.

This reminds me that I'm also in the alpha for the similar Forge Quest which I haven't been keeping up on.

ohh, thanks E9! That looks interesting!

And yeah, CK, its annoying, and I don't understand why he keeps it so much down - Can there really still be that many people hammering his site? Amazing! But I guess the fact that Notch announced the game on his twitter doesnt help.

The devs, husband and wife I think, are now stating they think they are getting DDOS attacks on the site which is causing the issues.  I was able to get the game and play for a bit, it takes about 20 seconds before I have a ton of enemies chasing me, I must not be doing something correctly.
