A friend is down at the E3 for EBGames right now, and passed along this email to me, I think there is some good info in it;

------  Quoted email below from him  -----

Im down here in Dallas for the Gamestop nation yearly meeting, every
store manager and DM is here. it is our own E3 pretty much. Today was
Nintendo day i got to play the Wii.... 1st impressions to me where the
Wii mote is very very very touchy, hard to use at first, but after 15
minutes or so you kind of get the hang of it. I was playing Zelda, so
far the Wii controller doesnt impress me, ill probly just use a
regular controller. Zelda looked absolutely great, Dont underestimate
the power of the Wii.

Redsteel also looked bad ass. Its a FPS but the charactor moves more
realistic than any other FPS I have seen. Mark my words
this game will be a system seller and a smash hit. Nintendo
girls...WHOA.....smoking hot, best part of the show..lol...

Also ill give you the details on how Nintendo is pricing there old
titles. Nes titles will be 500 nintendo points (ala microsoft points)
Snes 800 points, N64 1000 points. They will sell 2000 point cards for
20 bucks
.

Also there will be a nintendo channel to. you activate it through
your wii and it streams live TV shows and stuff from online onto your
TV so you can check out game previews etc. this sounds sweet. From
what i have seen Nintendo has great ideas and i am deffinately going
to buy a Wii.

Thats about all i saw today, flight got in late. Tomorrow we see all
of Ubisofts future titles, and im going to be all over the PS3 and i
will let you guys in out what it is all about.

good stuff

i have often thought of using a regular controller if i wouldnt be able to get used to the wiimote...but does the wii come with one?....is a normal controller even available for the wii?..i was under the impression that nintendo were trying to phase the old type controllers out so that we use the wiimote...whether we like it or not

if you buy the gamecube version of Zelda you can use the gamecube controller, the Wii has a classic controller coming out for 20 bucks that's mainly for Virtual Console stuff. Nintendo has already gone on record that Zelda Wii will only use the remote.

I actually think that's still part of the email from his friend.

I appreciate that despite his lack of interest in the console, he's still passing along details to those of us who are excited about it.

Uhh, that quote was from my friend.  retard You can tell, the spelling is atrocious.  I thought I made this pretty clear in the first paragraph.

Anyway, he is promising a PS3 update later today for those interested.

Heres his update tonight:

------- Email Quote -------

Alright boys and girls. Had a few drinks in me so cut me some slack.
Sat through some speaches by Reggie...the Nintendo leader and non
other than PETER MOORE BABY!!!!....... mr. moore was awesome talking
up the 360. very very good speaker.

The Wii...continues to dissapoint me with their controller, i got to
spend A lot more time with it, And it just isnt right. I dunno, me and
everyone i know do not like it at all. but over all the Wii is
impressive. All the stuff it can do WILL make it a great system
nintendo has a winner, the Wii just needs the games to back it.

The 360 was overall the best sgo wby far...And no im not being
biased, I got to see Gears of War in action, lets just say Halo dont
have anything on it. it is flat out amazing. MARK MY WORDS, Gers of
War will win game of the year by a landslide. Assasins Creed on the
360 is also a winner, it is the single best looking game you will have
seen to date. Forza 2 a;lso...OMG.....amazing. Graphics,
gameplay....NFS Carbon dont have a shot at competing with Forza 2.

Now onto the PS3. I hate to say this but...WOW...... Resistance and
Heavely Swords look freaking unreal on Sony's 1080P screens. They look
lifelike. Now the Sony people did say that the games they showed are
the best TV's money can buy.  PS3 may have the edge but we will have
to wait and see.

I am confused, he hates the Wii controller but finds the Wii impressive? Isn't the Wii all about the controlller? I would think if the controller is disappointing you the whole system would be....

no offense to your friend Kobra, but he is so contradictory that I have a hard time even believing what I am reading.

How can you hate the controller but think the machine is impressive? I need more information, is it just the games he's playing? What else is wrong, is not finding it easy to adjust to the new style, are the controllers unresponsive? You should get him to sign up on here and punch out a few more detailed impressions.

Good point, I am directing him here.  Apparently the games look great, but the controller is unresponsive, and difficult to use.  Thats what I gathered from him. Anyway, hopefully he will register and chime in.

Yeah, that's what I got from his impressions.  He thought it looked better than expected but had problems with the controls.

Honestly, it's those problems with the implementation of controls are what I have been fearing all along.  Hopefully it becomes useable and useful and not just a novelty for it's own sake.

Apparently loads of issues with the controller he has told me.  Touchy in that sometimes it just doesn't register with precision in a game, leaving you dead.  Other times you flail around wildly to try and do an action, but it just doesn't go off as intended.  Also it can take a long time to adjust to the controls of each game.

Apparently, you can't use many of the newer games with the older normal style controller?  That will be a tragedy.

Odd that his impressions contradict all other hands on impressions. Mayhaps this could stem from the venue and not truly getting enough time? I still would like to hear more, because what he's telling you and what we've read from every event including E3 are opposite. I've read that some of the demos needed calibration etc. but nothing like what he is stating. Very important to get more details as I know this impacts my decision. I'll wait for them to iron out the kinks.

Especially if you hop over the Madden thread, I posted three videos that show the player playing the game with the controllers and experiencing none of the difficulties described above. Shit like this make me mad, is it too hard to ask for things to work and be simple enough for everyone?

From todays show, seems like he is too worn out to type much;

---------- EMail -----------------

Ok just got settled in my hotel room, here is what i have saw today.
I got to spend more time with the Wii and Zelda. The controller sort
of grows on you a bit. but still, i do not like it. there is
just something about it that detracts from the game. Maybe it needs
calibrated to my liking, becouse if it wasnt so touchy it would be ok.
I saw people using it with Madden 07 to....lame as hell. Id rather just
push the button to pass than acting like im throwing a ball.

The PS3 on their very expensive setups looked very very nice. The
controller is exact same as the PS2, except a lot lighter and the R2
and L2 buttons are like the trigger buttons on the 360 controller.

Now i have seen so much its hard to type it all so i will talk about
the game that impressed me the most and if i voted wouldve been the
Best of the show......Drummm roll please....

SUPERMAN!!! This game is freaking awesome. They have done it right.
the graphics are A+, you can do all of his abilities, he flies
fast...You can even hear the sonic boom when you really get going. His
cold breath is sweet. I had fun freezing the innocent
civillians..lol..Like in the movie when he flew up high and looked
down on the city and could see it all, you can do this. Also i ran
like 50 city blocks like miles in 5 seconds. the controlls are superb,
it has a fluid framerate with no stuttering/ If you ever really wanted
to be a super hero and want to play the single best super hero game
ever made, Buy a 360 and this game. you will love it. The super breath
is awesome, if you really let it go you can blow all the cars, buses
everything in your way down the road like he did in superman 2.

Finally got to see my manager today.
He LOVED the wiimote and thought it felt completely natural, precise, and responsive, with the exception of Super Mario Galaxy.
I know he played Wii Sports a lot, as well as Zelda and Rayman. I think he also played Red Steel. He did not play Madden.

Oh, he also thought very highly of Metroid Prime 3.

That's kind of surprising since most impressions I've read indicate that Mario is one of the best for the controls since it was obviously designed from the ground up to use them.

I read a rumor (can't remember where, it might have been on Blues News) that you will need a credit card to use the Wii demo kiosk as they couldn't figure out a way to secure the nunchuka/remote controllers without hampering the ability to try them.  Anyone else hear anything about this?  Could suck for those annoying little kids who hog the kiosks for hours on end  icon_twisted
