Hey guys...

I'm stuck without Xbox Live at home with my current 360 setup unless I can get ahold of a wireless network adaptor for it (and I can't afford the $100 Microsoft one).

So I'm going to look on ebay for a good one that won't cost as much money.    Is there a list of known compatible usb wireless adaptors which will work with it?

I already have a good Linksys wireless router.    What do you guys recommend?

Does the 360 have a ethernet plug?  If so, you can buy one of the wireless extensions or standalone wireless boxes or something.  I'm not sure what it's called, but I have seen simple devices that are meant to act like a hub but with the ability to relay wireless signals.

Using one of these you could just use a short ethernet cable to hook the 360 to the hub.

Of course, the hub may cost $100 on its own.

Here's the problem:

My 360 is going downstairs on my HDTV.   My wireless router is upstairs next to my computer.     I can't move the router.   So I need a wireless USB adaptor for my 360.

I was under the impression I could pick up a different brand wireless USB plug in off Ebay for 30 bucks or so and be good to go.    I want to make sure I get the right one.

Well - I use a Linksys WET11 Bridge on mine.  Its just an ethernet cable that plugs into a small access point style box.   That said, get yourself something that is 54g as you will need it if you ever decide to use the Media Center functionality.  802.11b will not cut it.

You definitely have to use a Ethernet to WAP bridge like KD does.  Otherwise, if you want a USB plug in, it's the Microsoft one or nothing at all.

Dang guys...

I want to get on Xbox live so bad, but I'm having to wait until I can afford a wireless adaptor.    I wish they didn't price these things at 100 bucks.

I'm going to look around the room here and see if there is anything I can ebay to raise the funds.   I already have Xbox Live subcription, but my router is upstairs and this box is hooked to my downstairs HDTV.

Bear with me -- I'll be on before long to play with you guys (I have COD2, PGR, and Madden).

It's not much cheaper, but linksys is offering rebates on some of their networking products.

Here's the Linksys Wireless G Gaming Adapter at ZZF.

It's $82 with free 2 day shipping and a $10 mail in rebate (so a net of $72).

The B version is cheaper if you must save money.  It should be ok for gaming, but not streaming video as mentioned above.

Will a D Link DWL-G810 bridge work?

If I'm reading this right I'd plug the xbox into the D Link which would communicate to my linksys wireless router and I'd be in business?

Right?

Yes, the bridges and gaming adapters are essentially the same thing.  You might have to initially configure the bridge by connecting it to your computer, but after that you'll be good to go.

Ok I ebayed a bridge.   I selected Priority Mail so with luck it will be here by Saturday and I'll be able to hook up with you guys online.

=)

BTW -- I love this 360 so far.   The machine rocks and the integration it has being online is unbelievable.
