Team page:  http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=60205

TheMissingLink mentioned in a previous thread back in March that there is a team GamingTrend folding group active for all PS3 & PC users.  To join, PS3 owners can just join the team "60205."  There are a couple of us already in the group but I thought I'd separate it out & let others know in a different thread.

If you don't own a PS3, you can join the group on the PC & fold!  EngineNo9 pointed out a download for PC users here:

http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/download.html

It's pretty cool how they keep stats for individuals & teams.  Join up!

Nice!  Thanks for putting that together.  Guess I could do that while my PC isn't doing anything.

Crap I've only been running mine for a day and I've already passed Hetz!  Do you guys leave your PS3's running all the time?  I don't think we can run the folding at home program in the background so unless I leave it running (which I have been) I don't know when else I could do it.  My goal is to be #1 on that list and I think I can do it (just because I'm already at 1000 and  I've only had my PS3 for just over a day.  Surely Dep has had his for more than 30 days cause he's at 30,000.

By the way can you set it so that it will start automatically after a period, like a screensaver would?

By the way Dep maybe you could add the link to our team page in your first post so we can check it out. I sometimes check on the PS3 but I'm not on it right now.

I'll look into doing that.

I used to fold ALL the time.  Then my electricity bill came.  Needless to say, I've really toned it down since then   icon_biggrin

Yes, that's how I have mine set up.  I'm pretty sure it only works when you leave it in the XMB.  If I remember correctly, you just go to the folding icon and hit triangle.  Auto start should be one of the options.

Thanks for that!

The new PS3's are supposed to be a lot more power efficient so I think I'll be leaving mine on all the time. I've got two other people to divide the electricity bill with slywink

I haven't even had that program running for a long time.  I used to have it going in the background on my PC but I think I uninstalled it at one point for some reason.

I don't have a PS3 and if I did I don't think I would leave it on just for that reason.  Does the PS3 use it as a screensaver if you leave a game paused long enough?

lol, been playing my Wii and 360 alot the past week.   i have started Uncharted today so you'll get a chance to catch up a tad.   however, i keep my PS3 running all the time.   i work Thursday thru Saturday 12 hour shifts and won't game nothing from Thursday to Sunday, so it'll be running nonstop during that time.

i pulled back a bit after shooting straight to the number two spot, but now i'm running the system at night and whenever i'm playing the 360.  i had intended to overtake depward, but i relaxed too much by way of electricity bill worries, before he restarted his work.

Yeah, I have my machine on a lot.  That's not to say I don't play any PS3 games - I play it on a nightly basis.  Eye of Judgment, Folklore, Warhawk, Assassin's Creed, Resistance... I'll hit one up usually every night for a bit.  Everyday Shooter is amazingly awesome.  Puzzle Fighter is awesome but hardly anyone plays multiplayer.  My PS3 is the gaming machine that I play the most, with the 360 being second and my Wii being third...

Well after shooting up from last to 4th place in just over a month, I've officially retired.  After watching the "An Inconvenient Truth" documentary I've decided that I can help do my part by NOT leaving my PS3 running 24/7.  I realize that it's a trade off, human health over world health but to be honest the last thing this world needs is MORE people.

An alternate solution that would allow you to indulge your desire to help humanity would be to fold instead of game on it.  Who does gaming help?  Just you.  Who does folding help?  Everyone.  It's fundamentally selfish of you to use important scientific equipment for Ratchet and Clanking...

The Official Playstation Blog has some information on an update to the PS3's Folding @ Home program which includes a programmed auto-shutdown feature as well as the ability to play music.

Canuck, now you can choose to fold for a certain period of time overnight and have it turn off.
