There's a countdown on Carmageddon.com

OOOH, I'm a little giddy!

A new Carmageddon game would certainly be welcome, but I wonder if they'd be able to get away with the blatant violence against pedestrians these days. If they could manage to keep the same spirit of the originals, I'd be in line on day one.

Back in the day, those games had some of the best physics I'd ever seen.

I loved the first two Carmageddons. My guess is that they'll announce in 10 days that the old games have been released on GOG or Steam or something. Seems unlikely that they could have kept an entirely new game under wraps for so long. But I'll be very happy if I'm wrong and we get some brand new splattering, smashing action.

It also seems weird that they'd reveal a new game right before E3, but I haven't seen anyone else announce a release on GOG (other than GOG).  Would it be worth getting a whole web domain for that and paying to have people put a site together?  Maybe you'll be able to play the old games through your browser.

As mentioned in that other thread, they have a Kickstarter going to help support this one.  Their video spends a bit too much time talking about the past and not enough showing the new game, but I guess that's how it goes.

They've just announced a deal with GOG.com where anybody who donates $25 or more to the Kickstarter will get free downloads of the original Carmageddon and the Splat Pack.

And if you haven't been paying attention, they've added a bunch more potential rewards like the 2 collectible Eagle car models and such.

They hit their $400k goal earlier today with 10 days to go, so chances are good that they hit (and exceed) their $600k stretch goal for Mac and Linux ports.

Cleaning out the basement, I stumbled on my disks for Carmageddon, the Splat Pack and Carmageddon 2.  Now I have to decide if I want to struggle getting it to run or just wait for GOG.

I think I may wait, so I'm not disappointed with the kickstarter donation I just made.

The original Carmageddon (with updated graphics) is hitting iOS and Android this summer and will be FREE for the first 24 hours.

Their Kickstarter campaign just finished north of $625k, which is more than 50% above their target, so hopefully that means good things for the development.

Well, for me it ran in a little tiny box with the hud all around it!

I'm sure I just haven't figured out how to get it to work right.

OTOH, I'm still amazed at how good the controls are, with just the keyboard, too.

I seem to remember some kind of Glide or 3DFX acceleration.  Hopefully, I can get it to where I can actually tell people are people*.

For those not checking the Portables forum, the original Carmageddon is now out free on both app stores (Android and iTunes) for the next day.

It looks like this game will be getting a Steam Early Access alpha release next month, on March 27th, with Kickstarter backers getting in a couple weeks earlier than that.

They've also put out this vehicle damage tech video (usual disclaimer of pre-alpha, not final, blah blah blah).

Early Access is a go and up on the Steam Store for $30.  I played the earlier KS backer version a couple weeks ago and it seems like it is on the right track.  Pretty early, untextured levels and unoptimized for lower end machines, but the driving and splatting was all about what I expected from a new Carmageddon.

There is a new 3.9GB patch with today's release that is supposed to include a couple new environments, options, performance improvements, and all that.

They also released this "wheels on the bus" launch trailer I guess.

My copy is downloading.  To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why I funded this.  I have vaguely fond memories of Carmegeddon 2 but their promo materials really turn me off.  I guess lets see what the game itself does!

Yeah, I sort of have the same feeling.  I like the driving and smashing bit and have fond memories of the early games, but I don't really care for the sophomoric humor.  Should be good fun, though.
