Fourzerotwo confirmed on twitter that if you have tokens the prestige shop will open for you, so you do not have to wait.
Did they say for sure how to get them? What part of acquiring them are you unsure about? I didn't think that aspect was in question. Prestiging in previous titles, single player campaign, spec ops, and of course prestiging in the new game. He may be referring to how you acquire your actual tokens in-game, such as importing a save game or if it merely recognizes that you've prestiged in the past. Yup, pretty much. Thanks though for the attitude.

Thanks though for the attitude. My first sentence is my way of asking you what part you were unsure about. My strategy was to ask "what part are you unsure about." My second sentence was my way of clarifying where I'm coming from. I didn't think the 'how to get them' part was up in the air, so my strategy was to say "I didn't think that aspect was in question." I then tried to answer what I thought was your question. I was trying to be helpful in the last post, but this time you're all set for thanking me for attitude.

lets not speak of Black Ops single player campaign though
I thought W@W's campaign was worse. Especially since I actually finished all campaigns, including Black Ops, but not W@W. Just couldn't find any reason to continue. MW1 is still by far my favorite SP campaign, though.

BF3 is good but I guess I like the CoD experience just as much. Apparently I will be able to take advantage of my Veteran playthroughs so that's good too.

Not even dangling the prestige token carrot will entice me to do that. Any time I would spend on the campaign is time taken away from MP. Trying to resist the urge to take Tuesday off.

Last night there were numerous COD superheroes playing Black Ops presumably in anticipation of MW3 as I kept stumbling into rooms with multiple players going 25-0 or better. When two to three people on a team earn so many kills there are little left for anyone else. I also tried to revisit the W@W campaign and once again was frustrated into quitting. I'm now stuck at some Russian tank level with hits coming from all sides. It was ridiculous. wow, maybe people will actually play the single player this time round

I'll play the SP campaign every so often whenever I need a break from MP or don't have many friends online at the moment, but ultimately it'll have to wait for quite some time as MP will probably be my primary mode for months to come.

Looks like Best Buy is offering 50% more trade-in value if you trade in games and preorder MW3. For people like me who haven't yet preordered a copy, this could be pretty helpful toward alleviating any real cost of admission.

The following is to be read with as little emotion, attitude, or inflection as possible, perhaps in the voice of Ben Stein, Siri, or a character from the Star Wars prequels.
Representatives have confirmed that you can prestige in older Call of Duty games at any time you wish in order to obtain the bonus prestige tokens. If you prestige in the older titles after having already played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, you will still gain your token.

The 402 twitter feed just mentioned the max number of tokens is 4 from previous games and 1 from each prestige in MW3. That's 14. With a maximum number of custom class slots of 10, this means that if you plan on reaching prestige 10 and then still playing, make sure you max out your custom class slots before you run out of tokens or you will effectively 'gimp' your final build.
Just a heads up, not that many of us will ever get there. Hell, I've still never reached max prestige in a cod.

Did I read somewhere that you'd have to reach level 80 to prestige each time? If so, Black Ops may be my last experience with prestiging for quite some time.

It's level 80, why would that mean you won't prestige? Going to 55 half a dozen times and going to 80 3 shouldn't feel too different

So, word on the street is that Assassin is an even more egregious game ruining perk than Ghost.
Thoughts?
I asked the PA forumers what the fuss was about Assassin, and what made it so different than the previous games' similar perks. I got this comprehensive explanation: Cold-Blooded and Ghost are very similar: they both keep you off the UAV/Spy Plane, and allow you to go unseen by enemy air support. In Modern Warfare 3, Infinity Ward essentially realized (we thought) that this was too potent an ability in the absence of Stopping Power and Juggernaut, and decided to split it up into two perks: Blind Eye and Assassin. However, each of these new abilities were given a huge boost in effectiveness to close the gap.
Blind Eye is a tier 1 perk, and it functions as the "invisible to enemy kill streaks" portion of Cold-Blooded / Ghost. It allows the player to go undetectable by enemy air support and sentry guns (so no red boxes around your character when someone's piloting a Predator Missile and whatnot, and automated streaks won't target you). The Pro version grants you additional bullet damage to enemy air support and sentries, and allows you to lock-on faster with launchers. All in all, that's actually pretty solid; that's not where the issue is ...
... the issue is with Assassin, the new tier 2 perk. It functions as the "undetectable on enemy radar" portion of Cold-Blooded / Ghost, and steps it up a notch. Not only are Assassins immune to UAVs, but they're also immune to Advanced UAVs (the MW3-equivalent of the SR71 Blackbird, which could detect Ghosts in Black Ops), as well as Heartbeat Sensors, Portable Motion Sensors, and Thermal. And to top it all off, they're also immune to Counter UAVs and EMPs (the latter of which is an 18-point Support Streak).
Assassin Pros are effectively undetectable by any means except for eyes on target. There are two exceptions, however: the tier 1 Recon perk (which obviously competes with Blind Eye), that paints your target on the minimap when you hit them with explosive damage (and bullet damage, once you go Pro); and the 10-point Support Streak, Recon Drone. Think of Recon Drone like ... an RC-XD, basically, that has a little camera mounted on it. You fly this thing around and "tag" enemies, which then show up on your team's radar, kind of like an SR71 from Black Ops.
The perk's just ... incredibly powerful. It really is. It's just about the only thing worth using, and the consequence of its overuse (along with Blind Eye) is that Core modes will essentially turn into Hardcore modes, where your minimaps might as well not even exist, and everyone's squatting around in dark corners to avoid visual detection (nothing else can pick them up, after all!). And even if you manage to get some bad ass streaks out ... they won't even target anyone using Blind Eye, so ... good fucking job, I guess.
Which is why I think the Specialist Strike Package is starting to look a lot more appealing. With it, you don't gain air support or equipment from scoring kills; you gain additional perks, instead. You start off with 3 perks, like normal, then you gain a 4th at 2 kills, a 5th at 4 kills, a 6th at 6 kills ... and then at 8 kills, you unlock ALL of the perks, and essentially become a walking Swedish death machine. I see very little reason not to run Specialist now, to be honest. Nothing I could toss up will even matter anyway, so why not just have every perk?

I'm skeptical about how overused it's really going to be, though. I've thought the Ghost & Cold Blooded type perks were indispensable in previous games, too, but they weren't hugely adopted. People are saying there aren't any compelling alternatives to Assassin, but I think Quickdraw, Hardline, and Overkill are all going to attract people.

Hardline pro is pretty good I will always take whatever makes killstreaks not hit me though, since I hate killstreaks. BTW, I know lots of people complain that EVERYBODY was using ghost in blops, but that wasn't actually the case. Very rarely were people not showing up on my UAV's, even near the end of my play time. We'd even notice that a UAV is up, oh, only 4 dots, 2 ghosts, take care. I can only recall one match where the entire enemy team was ghosted, and the blackbird took care of that.

That's because some people blow everything out of proportion, especially when they think it's cheap or runs counter to their usual play style.

Assassin is blackbird equivalent immune according to what pug cited.
And if anyone says that Ghost was not overused in blops, they're wrong. It was everywhere in almost every match.
Good players can counter it and we did. But it was still annoying as crap. Just like assassin pro will be in this game.

Ghost was not overused, you are allowing your hatred for ghost to cloud your perception. I saw far more people who used scavenger or hardline than ghost. You can insist it wasn't that way, but you are incorrect.
You can even go look through replays and count the people using ghost. I truly suggest you do this, because you might be surprised to see that despite you believing they were everywhere, it only felt like it because you hated not seeing them.
I was keeping track of the times I died to people with ghost after people started complaining about it being overused. It just wasn't a large % of the people who killed me.
Assassin IS immune to the new blackbird equiv though like you said, and that may or may not be a bit much. It doesn't do anything about being spotted by recon or the drone from what I've read though.
Take a step back and find the proof. Anecdotally you will always perceive things with a certain bias.
I think killstreaks are overpowered, ghost counters those. I tried for almost a year to get the people I play with to use ghost and they wouldn't. If a whole team uses ghost then the other team's killstreaks are mostly nullified, yet that rarely happens.
I know for a fact that didn't happen all that often to you guys either or your gunship wouldn't have been racking up so many kills. You tend to put spin on everything.

here's the type of thing that you can do http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1731967I did something similar over the course of a weekend and found that there were not very many more ghost users than the other perks, it just feels like it when they get you because you didn't see them while a UAV was active and you got lazy. granted the 100 player sampling in the link is small, but mine was much larger and over 3 days.
