Guy in the tower dying by getting gently tapped on the elbow by a grenade that banked off the wall has to be my favorite. I still dont' know exactly what happened other than I threw a grenade at him and got 5 hit indicators or so followed by the kill THEN the blast. I guess it bounced off him onto the guard rail and back 5 times doing damage each time.

GREAT night last night. Tuck, nonna, coldsauce, CORTILIAN! Mikagami, Grim, calvin...we pretty much ran the table ending the night on a 27 match win streak (my personal best).
Lots of newbs too. Unusual quantities of them in fact.

I'm wanting to keep playing and levelling up, but I keep getting pissed at host advantages and general lag. I'm getting spoiled by consisitant connections and low latency on War Inc lately.

Played a ton of headquarters last night and absolutely crushed people. That is a great way to level up quickly.

We don't care about skill level at all. We never get mad at each other over poor performances (and there are tons of them from everyone). You not playing with us for that reason is silly. You absolutely should play with us and are welcome to any time you see one of us online. Edit: We might make fun of you every once in a while, but it's always playful. Except for M4cker and Roman. We literally hate their guts.

Seriously. I struggle to go positive on anything remotely approaching a regular basis, at least when I'm not coat-tailing a 25-match win streak.

They don't have that already? I played for a bit yesterday and whenever I'd leave a group that wasn't much fun to play with I'd wind up playing Firing Range over and over and over again.

I want a playlist with no small maps. (Nuketown, Firing Range and Summit)

I'll probably play some this afternoon before the wife gets home and we head to softball later, and I might try to log on tomorrow but we'll be spending most of the afternoon at dim sum and then a softball tournament starting at 6pm and running as late as 3am depending on how well we do. Outside of that my time online will be spotty.

Managed a whole prestige this weekend and black ops has rewarded me with colored clan tags! Not a bad weekend on the whole, though there are always frustrating moments in this game. Our group played quite a bit of domination with pretty good success. I can remember two losses, both of them good fights and very narrow defeats. Two more levels til I max prestige... not sure I'll make it.

I played a fair bit on Sunday afternoon by myself before anyone logged on to play Black Ops and put up some solid numbers, earning 15 to 25 kills per game with anywhere from 2 to 10 deaths, but almost always in the positive. Later on I was able to get in some games with Nonnahob, Hark, ATB, Romy, and m4cker and it was fun to play with some of the old faces again. m4cker and I (and eventually Nonna once he switched headsets) had fun chatting about all sorts of things before we added more players and then got a little more serious once we had a full team. I did certainly notice that my numbers change dramatically when playing with such skilled players versus in lobbies by myself as there is pretty real competition to get kills before the others do. I'd often be in the positive, but only with 7 or 8 kills as I'd only encounter an enemy who was actually still alive on very rare occasions.
The game certainly has its issues, and they obviously continue to frustrate, but I tried to do a better job of taking a more m4cker-like perspective, not letting it bother me or ruin the game too much. I didn't prestige again, but I leveled up from the low 20's to the mid-30's and might actually get back to playing a little more often again to try to prestige for a 3rd time.
It was nice to play with the group again despite struggling to find living enemies left to kill.

I just picked this game up a few weeks ago, at the urging of some friends who want to kill me, I guess. It's a fun game, but I really am horrible. Maybe its because I'm over 40, or maybe its because I just suck at FPS on consoles in general, but I am getting my ass handed to me left and right. I usually play team deathmatch, because I don't feel quite as guilty sucking playing that version, as opposed to playing games are more teamwork and objective orientated. I've read faqs and guides about the game, I know the various killstreaks, perks, and weapons. I still don't think I've learned any of the maps very well, perhaps that is part of my problem. Anyway, wish I was at home and could give actual stats, but most games I'm finishing like 2-8, or 2-12. My ratio tends to be around .11. Yes, you are reading that right. I don't mind the deaths, but I can't seem to get many kills at all. No other game in memory has left me wanting to smash things so bad. I think the last game was ninja gaiden. On the positive side, nobody has talked any crap to me for sucking so bad. As someone earlier in this post said, there certainly is a sense of guilt of letting your team down by being so horrible.

I just picked this game up a few weeks ago...
...but I really am horrible. We all started there (although perhaps with slightly less struggles due to experience with prior COD games like MW, MW2, and W@W). It took a long time for COD games to click for me. My k/d ratio would be in the negative a majority of the time and any positive k/d's were aberrations rather than the norm. Even now I struggle from time to time, but depending on the lobby I can sometimes put up decent numbers and rarely go below even. Still, despite having the game since release I still struggle at times. I've only prestiged twice and may play enough to go through again, but there are folks here who have prestiged 15, 20, maybe even 25 times. I'm nowhere near that level of dedication or skill. Maybe its because I'm over 40, or maybe its because I just suck at FPS on consoles in general, but I am getting my ass handed to me left and right. I've learned that you just have to play, play some more, and then play even more to get comfortable with certain weapons you excel with, learn the map layouts, figure out your ideal perks setup, and determine which weapon attachments help you the most (and also earn some quick experience points to continue to level up). I usually play team deathmatch, because I don't feel quite as guilty sucking playing that version, as opposed to playing games are more teamwork and objective orientated. I can't seem to handle objective-based games, mainly because I feel like I'm trying to complete the objective and the opposing team spends the entire game killing me. They're more frustrating for me than basic deathmatch variants. So I'm with you there. I've read faqs and guides about the game, I know the various killstreaks, perks, and weapons. That certainly helps as there's a ton of stuff in the game and not always much time between matches to adjust customizations. I still don't think I've learned any of the maps very well, perhaps that is part of my problem. It is. See my comment above about "play, play more, and then play even more." Anyway, wish I was at home and could give actual stats, but most games I'm finishing like 2-8, or 2-12. My ratio tends to be around .11. Yes, you are reading that right. I've been there. It took a while before I started to see even the occasional positive k/d, and even then I'd do worse more often than better. But, like others have said earlier in the thread, eventually something just "clicks" and you start to improve by checking your corners before rushing into a room or open area, you get comfortable with the iron sights, you find a weapon that fits your play style, your aim becomes more steady, and while your k/d may not be record-setting, it will start to improve...............eventually. COD is the first series I've ever played that rewards practice. I've never heard of such a concept with videogames. I practice softball, or billiards, but never videogames. Yet the more time you put in with Blops the better you will become. I don't mind the deaths, but I can't seem to get many kills at all. That gets worse when playing with the GT elite as there aren't many kills to have. No other game in memory has left me wanting to smash things so bad. I think the last game was ninja gaiden. I used to feel the same way, but I don't let it bother me anymore. I instead focus on what I need to do to continue to earn XP to level up and unlock weapons, face paint, etc, and if I go 5-15, so what? Next game I may go 24-2. And the next I may break even. I may let the occasional "are you effing kidding me" slip, but my anger and frustration are far more subdued than when I first started playing any games in the COD series. I just don't have enough energy to devote so much to being pissed off about being sniped from short range while my opponent bunny-hops across the prairie. On the positive side, nobody has talked any crap to me for sucking so bad. As someone earlier in this post said, there certainly is a sense of guilt of letting your team down by being so horrible.
I'm okay with being the occasional weakest link (unless I play with m4cker ). I'm still waiting for those who take all of the kills to feel some level of guilt.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I guess I just need to not be so discouraged, and keep practicing. Speaking of which, I've read that its not a good idea to play too much boot camp, as it will lead to bad habits, and of course computer players are not the same as humans. Good idea? I need to come to terms with the fact that I will never be 1/2 as good as a teenager who's been sitting at home all summer playing ten hours a day
