Giving full credit to the person who puts someone into second chance is pretty brilliant and it's amazing they haven't thought of that before.

Still fairly new but really enjoying this game, especially the multiplayer Zombies!

Was a tough choice between the Xbox and PS3 versions but ultimately I went with the "free to play" version because my Live subscription is almost over and I don't think I'm going to renew.. $10 a month (or $60 a year) just to play a game online on peer to peer servers that I already paid for is over kill.
Last night the PS3 version had about 720,000 active players online, which is pretty damn good for a PS3 game..

And it's about time we got a Call of Duty game with bots! ("Practice Dummies")

Agreed.

I really like his explanation for the half second of invulnerablity someone gets as he drops into last stand.  Without it, there's no opportunity for a second chance and the perk becomes utterly worthless.

No, but its a direct reflection of your overall contribution to the team. You can go 2 kills, 1 death in every game and contribute much less then the person going 20 - 10. Score per minute is a reflection of that. Thats why its important.

+1

there is a reason all the leaderboards are sorted by score per minute.  That's what wins games.

Not sure how spm has any bearing whatsoever.  If a guy goes 10 and 0 in a 10 minute match for an spm of 100 how is he being less helpful than the guy who goes 35 and 34 but has an spm of 350?

Well, shooting down spy planes, "road raging" cars, stopping enemy kill streaks by killing campers helps your team win games.

allot of times, K/D ratio is maintained via camping a spot and not moving around, being a killwhore on objective games, and "cutting out" when you have a bad game, and using killstreaks that help your kill ratio, rather then killstreaks that help your team, such as blackbird....

Not so much a reflection of how much you contribute or how good you are.

But, not reallly any stat that tells the whole tale though I guess..

I think my lifetime spm is somewhere around 250.  I have no idea how I could improve that as I'm always on the move looking foe badguys.  If I go two minutes without a kill its becaue I haven't found anyone.  I've seen very few people with high kds and low spms.  I can only think of one friend who is a camping king who fits that description.

Nor do I know anyone with a low kd who has a high spm.

What am I missing?

In straight-up TDM I tend to play cautiously to maintain a positive K/D ratio as much as I can, since in straight-up TDM, that's generally what wins the match.

In objective-based games, it depends. Domination, for example, is all about control points, so I don't give a crap how bad my K/D is so long as I'm capturing/defending control points. In MW2 I had a pretty good K/D overall because I rarely played anything but TDM. In Black Ops, I find myself enjoying objective-based gameplay more, so I don't even know what my overall K/D is but I'm pretty sure it's crap. biggrin

Yep, and K/D only shows on TDM/FFA leaderboards as far as I know.  Overall K/D is on your Combat Record.

I'm with you that K/D is probably more important in TDM than SPM.  If you die a lot in TMD blowing up an RC car that was probably coming for you anyway didn't help me one bit.  Sure you can go 35-35 and get a high SPM that way and your account for 46% of the teams score, but you're also giving the other team 46% of theirs.

I think in TDM the person I'd want most on my team has a decent mix of SPM and K/D. You're definitely right that having a high SPM and super low K/D isn't worthwhile in TDM. You'd be giving the opposing team a ton of kills, just like Hiccup says. Since the game is straight kill based it isn't as important.

A SPM of 250 and k/d of ~2.0 is definitely in the upper tiers of the game, definitely above the general population in COD. I'm not trying to say your K/D isn't important, just that with a good SPM it becomes more impressive.

SPM also includes things not recognized in your K/D - assists, revives, shooting down enemy aircraft, etc. It's more reflective of your overrall contribution then just K/D. The guy who has a 1.5 k/d but a high SPM I know is going to be spending a lot of time shooting down enemy spy planes, choppers, etc. The guy who has a 5.4 k/d and a SPM of 100 is a camper. Yeah, he's going to help your team out with kills, but he's worthless for anything else.

In any of the objective modes it's paramount, even moreso then KD. I guess the guy who camps and has a super high KD will get to call in some killstreaks, but a team full of the high SPM people will probably still end up winning. Your SPM includes caps, defends, all the objective stuff that isn't in TDM. The guy who goes 98 - 4 in a domination game with 0 caps and 0 defends is obviously a camper. I guess at this point you NEED him on a team like that, because the other team will have one too most likely. A good mix of straight slayer roles + cap roles in domination is important.

Another thing people tend to overlook is Assists. Quite frankly, sometimes I wind up with almost as many assists as kills, because rather than acting as a lone wolf, I tend to work with teammates so that we function more as a squad. My assists are often helping prevent deaths on my team. biggrin

I agree with you here for sure. I think I'm #1 on my friends list for assists. A lot of times I'll have 5 - 7 assists in a single match, even if I'm #3 or #4 in kills.

I think their idea of giving the last stand kill to the person who put someone in last stand would help with that a lot. I die a gross amount of times because of the extra 3 - 5 bullets it takes to kill the guy in last stand.

SPM and stats don't really mean that much I've been playing pure TDM lately and enjoy it more because no kill streaks and no perks mean just pure gunplay. It's funny when you get players in the game and they don't have their killstreaks and perks and just quit because they suck without them.

I'm still playing, though not as regularly as I have been. The itch to play just isn't there as much as it used to be. I've basically given up on the fact that unless I camp, I'm about as high as I'll ever be in terms of K/D.

Lag is still a big issue for me, as is the problem with lobbies not filling. (Oh yay, another 4 v 4 on Array!  disgust)

I think I'm on prestige 6 or 7, can't remember right now. My goal was to hit at least 10 prestiges, but that feels further and further away. If you see me on, shoot me a message though and I'll hop over to play.

My winter break is over so for the next couple of weeks I'm working or sleeping during the week days. Also this past weekend was Rifts beta which is where several of the people I play with disappeared. Since I don't enjoy playing the game by myself I've been playing pc/PSP games.

I'm on sporadically.  I need to take some DVR space back, but after a couple of hours, I may need some shooting to unwind.

I managed to have the match of my life in FFA the other night on Summit.  30-12, and the next guy only had 15 kills.  I managed to get every break.  I'd fall in behind guys like they normally do to me, knife slashes would come up just short, I'd manage to be the one to be one bullet from death instead of me putting the other guy there, etc.  When I checked it, I was only registering three bars, so it's not like I was hosting.

This will likely be the first CoD game I ever reach max level in, too.  I'm having a lot of fun just trying to complete the various Perk challenges, I love this new feature as it really gives me some interesting play challenges to accomplish.  I still try to do well in TDM or capture/defend in Domination, but I have no idea what my K/D ratio is, nor do I care.

Right now I'm trying to complete the Warlord Perk challenges.  I have a two-attachment Commando, so getting 150 kills with that will be no problem.  It's the 10 frag/Semtex kills and one multi-kill that are giving me fits right now.  I'm constantly looking for areas to use grenades and trying to ferret out guys camping in packs.  It's great.  So much more interesting than just playing over and over.

I got the double grenade kill on Summit by tossing one at a guy that I dropped into Last Stand.  I took out him and the teammate that came up to either run the same approach or attempt to revive him.  Just keep tossing them into approach areas and you'll get one eventually.

I haven't played the game in awhile. I still think it's fun to meet up with a good group of people, but if I'm solo I can't stand more than a match or two. I shifted over to Assassins Creed 2 and I'm surprised at how quickly I've become addicted to that game.
