I really wish some reviews would hit- I'm very curious how the single player turned out.

Reviews are embargoed until noon today.

As always, there are exceptions. Obviously not all games with review embargoes end up bad. And besides, with all the hype and hardcore love for it, how could it not turn out to be awesome?
Spoiler for Hiden:
That being said, I never played any of the previous Fallout games and have no desire to play F3 at all.

CoD4 looked pretty much the same on both systems.  This game uses the same engine so I doubt there is much of a difference.

It's now past noon for 75% of the planet, and I still haven't found any reviews up.  Gametrailers had a countdown to review time that culminated in a broken link.  Any inside scoop as to what's going on?

Why would you guys not get COD for PC?  That seems nuts.

The 'lock' on hardcore until level 18 is very nearly a dealbreaker for me... I think that really sucks...  is that true on the PC as well?

I want this, but I'm so snowed under with games right now...

I think most people here enjoy the ease of MP and the groups that we get together to shooty-face with on XBL.

Many of the retailers are open here on the West Coast now and I haven't found a single review as well. I can't say I agree with Activision's decision for a noon time embargo on a day that's a holiday for many of the game reviewers. This will likely have the end result of them getting a day of sales clear of little or no reviews. It makes me wonder why the embargo wasn't midnight yesterday.  I'm not saying the game won't be good and reviews won't be favorable, but I'd least like some confirmation on a day I have some time to actually play the game. Based on other negative sentiments that surfaced here recently about Activision, I'm thinking this wasn't a very smart move on their behalf. With my other purchases I've recently made I don't have the funds or time for 2 shooter's right now and I'm seriously thinking of just getting GoW2 today instead.

GamePro: 4.5/5

PROS: Phenomenal multiplayer; outstanding graphics and sound; varied enemies and locales; intense scripted action.
CONS: Short and somewhat uneven campaign; Allied AI is a bit stunted; some checkpoint placement quibbles.

I've been running through a rough patch financially, which has meant no new games for several months now. To help me through this, I've been avoiding most gaming sites. Out of site, out of mind and all that. But with my birthday coming up, I figured I would check in and see what games were out today. Of course today would be the day that COD5 comes out, of course.

Since I found this out a couple of hours ago, I've been struggling to make a decision...go out of my way to the Best Buy where I know they will have it, or go to the Target which is on my way home but doesn't always have the new games out.

Wow, competitive co-op sounds awesome in that review.  Somehow I completely missed hearing about that feature.

Quote
They say the only thing that gets people through such extreme experiences is camaraderie, and CoD: World at War’s co-operative play conveys that spirit in multiple ways. There’s your regular old flavor of campaign co-op, where you and up to three of your buddies can team up squad-like and fight your way through the jungle. Then there’s competitive co-op, which works basically the same, but now with points. Kills give you points, with things like headshots giving you more, and keeping up the murderous pace unleashes a combo. It makes levels interesting when teammates are competing to get the most points, but maybe have to temper their aggression so as not to get knocked dawn and revived by a buddy, giving him some extra pointage. Competitive co-op is fun and turns the whole thing on its head.

Yeah it was cool.  It's basically what it sounds like, you play coop but you get points for doing more stuff.  Just makes it competitive at the same time.

by the way,has anything been said about this game being released on Remembrance Day?..or has it tried to cash in on a promotion or something?...or is it maybe just a coincidence

although i think Remembrance day is more for WWI,i do think they use it for all war heroes, from all wars past and present

'the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918'

i take it you guys have Rembrance day over there?..here in the UK the game isnt released until Friday

After waiting all morning for reviews to be posted, I finally headed over to my local EB to pick up a copy. Unfortunately their courier wasn't operating today due to the Remembrance Day holiday and so they won't have it until tomorrow. By that time all copies at the BB's, Futureshops and Toysrus in my area were sold out. LOL...looks like I won't be playing this today after all. Well at least I was able to buy a copy for pick up tomorrow. slywink

I got in another hour and a half tonight. I've leveled up to about 14, slowly approaching the magical 18 so I can use hardcore mode. Have identified a couple of more maps for a total count of eleven that I've played on and so far none are the kind of automatic "yuck" that Wetwork and Showdown were in COD4. In fact most maps are very clever with lots of ways to move and hide.

I'm still sticking with the Tommy gun and I'm getting pretty good. I've been experimenting  with the various perks and other loadouts for grenades. All pretty cool.

Oddly people have been pretty quiet in the MP games. I think folks are really trying to concentrate.

I've noticed some better spawn behavior than I saw last night. It's nice that you tend to spawn together as a group, encourages team tactics.

I'm getting good at whacking dogs. This is *much* better than having to hide from the chopper.

I haven't even fired up the SP campaign and with MP being so fun, I probably won't get to it for a while. Oh, and I'm still doing only Team Deathmatch.

I got about 2 hours in last night. I haven't played COD4 in a couple of months at least, but it was like riding a bike. The maps seem good, but they are so big it is going to take awhile to learn them. And vehicles are a nice touch. Driven correctly they can be very powerful, but a single ground soldier can still take them out. I think if a good team sticks together with 1 driver and 1 gunner, and the rest of the soldiers keeping them from getting too close, they will be close to unstoppable.

Now I just need to find a good gun to use. I had the most success with the BAR, but I found it works best at long range, and is hard to use in close quarters. I think next I'll try the submachine gun classes.

Well, my biggest complaint from CoD4 is back, and is more annoying than a teenage white guy in a suburban blasting Soulja Boy.

Single player campaign, and the AI on both sides.

First off, a note to my guys.  SHOOT THE FUCKER.  I'm not kidding, there is a enemy right next to you!  He's stabbing you in the face!  After I stop wondering why you're not dead (like I would have been), I'm now pondering why you STILL HAVEN'T KILLED HIM!  Apparently I'm in the 1st Pacifist Division of the USMC.  My wish now is to be a Russian, man those guys can kill everything...

Wait, now I'm a Ruskie, running through burned out buildings with 20 of my Russian brothers.  My wish came true!  Sweet!  Wait, why am I the only one able to kill anything.  I see you shooting, but no ones falling to the ground.  OK, cleared that hallway for you guys, I'll go check out the next room (as I hear about how awesome Dimitri, me, is).  Holy shit!  There's still a Nazi in here, and he's trying to shoot his very inaccurate MP40 at me! My brothers, help me!  *18 Russians run into the room, each shoot and miss the 1 enemy still there, and block any shot I have*  ...Seriously, do I have to do EVERYTHING myself?  *I line up the shot and pull the trigger*

"You are a traitor to the motherland."

Who the HELL just ran right in front of me and why did it only take ONE bullet to kill YOU but not the guy I was aiming for?

Now, a note to the Axis.

As you may notice there are several of my buddies running around in the open.  Well, actually you may NOT have noticed them because you are still shooting at me as I lay prone behind a wall, which is behind a bunch of debris, which is behind a busted car, which is...well you get the point.

Also, please send me a bottle of your skin creme and the name of your tailor.  They combine to make something tougher than Kevlar.

Will be picking this up friday, but I'm not sure how dedicated I will be to MP.  Grinding for unlocks isn't really appealing to me at the moment
Secondly, supposedly you earn MP unlock xp during the single player and coop campaigns as well so it shouldn't be a huge problem.

I saw you were doing some co-op last night.  Does XP earned move over to multiplayer?

I'm really disappointed in Zombie mode though.  Apparently you can't unlock it in coop mode.  You should NEVER have to play single player to unlock a feature for multiplayer.  I hate it when games do this.  I played through the coop campaign then found out I'll have to play through again, by myself (and bored) to unlock the coop zombie mode.  That's complete bullshit.
