I'd say bundle up because I remember how cold it was here in CA for that, but you're in AZ and it'll probably be shorts weather It has yet to stop being shorts and flip-flops weather. It's currently 75 degrees. at 7pm there were about 100 people already lined up in front of the local Gamestop.
I'm going to head out after the MNF game and if the store is a zoo I'll just go back tomorrow. If not I'll stick around and get myself a midnight copy.

Just drove by my EB on the way home (9pm) and there is about 50 people in line. My town only has about 30,000 people so I can't imagine what the lineups are like closer to the city.
I have to work early tomorrow and I feel like I'm missing out by not doing the midnight launch. But the I think about having to wait in line and then deal with Live's issues and I don't feel so bad. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself anyway.

I just got back from settling up my preorder at Gamestop. I got a little concerned, because at 9pm there were already about 6 kids hanging outside the shop. However, it turns out that none of them had pre-ordered, so they are going to have to wait in line. Anyone who has a stamped receipt will be able to flash it and just get a game, so I should (crossing fingers) be able to get in and out very quickly.

I'm looking forward to hearing all the stories of midnight release craziness, but I'm extremely glad that I don't have to deal with any stores tomorrow. Release day delivery is the best release day method of game acquisition ever.

I'm in line. Probably 30-40 people ahead of me, another 20 behind and growing. This is a pretty out of the way store, too. I can't believe I'm doing this :p

Friend of mine said he wandered into Meijers and found a whopping group of six people waiting to buy. He said the line into the gamestop he passed on the way there would probably take an hour to clear out.

Wow, walked by my local GS and there's a line about 20 people deep outside a fairly packed store. I saw the manager and asked him; he said this was regular business with people who didn't make the midnight release.

And if Prestige works in this game like in the previous two, those ahead in levels will be back at level one sometime soon. It's a great game mechanic that keeps those who started early from always having an advantage.

So, apparently Infinity Ward has been holding out on us - they're been working on an ultra-realistic Modern Warfare 3 for the last few months, and it's almost done. Go take a look at what the sequel holds.

This game looks compelling for obvious reasons. However, as a 'graying' gamer is there any reason for me to pick this up for the single player campaign? I long ago lost the ability to keep up MP but enjoy some of the newer titles if the difficulty is somewhat manageable.

The SP in COD4 was well worth the price of admission by itself. For me MP was a complete surprise, as at the time I was really enjoying the MP from Halo 3. I haven't tried the SP for MW2 yet, but there are some mixed impressions in this thread.

we've got some aging gamers who play in our MP matches as well. Pretty sure one of them is nearing 60 though I won't mention his name for fear that he might shoot me

If you are not interested in multiplayer I would recommend renting the game. The single player is solid, but there is not enough there to spend $60 on IMHO.

If you haven't played the first Modern Warfare than get that one. The campaign was better and MW2's story depends heavily on what happened in MW1.

The campaign was better and MW2's story depends heavily on what happened in MW1. they give you a quick recap during the opening title sequence, but yeah, play CoD4. right now the MW2 SP campaign feels like it's going to be pretty brief from the way things seem to move so fast.
