I'm sure the Army is going to love the fact that they show them torturing a captive.

But it looks great. Having the civilians running through the street was a great touch.

Good thing Activision has Infinity Ward's back, I feel bad for Atom Games and what happened over Six Days in Fallujah.

on the plus side those guys don't look like US military.

Blackwater?

B =  2
L = 12
A =  1
C =  3
K = 11
W= 23
A =  1
T = 20
E =  5
R = 18

total = 96

T = 20
A =  1
S = 19
K = 11
F =  6
O = 15
R = 18
C =  3
E =  5

total = 98... Oh, and the "141" is a combination; +1, -4, +1, or "-2". Therefore total is really 96

Blackwater = 96, Task Force 141 = 96. Case Closed  slywink

this time you can also go akimbo.  don't worry though, you can't dual wield RPG's.

Great. They copied the thing that made me stop playing Halo's multiplayer portion.

This is still the one game I'm most excited for but I'm really starting to feel like it isn't going to have the legs that CoD4 had for me.

Yup... as someone who probably accumulated two or three hundred off the hip Desert Eagle kills in CoD4, I don't relish the idea of people being able to run around with two...

But then I dislike dual wielding as a game mechanic. Pistols already worked great in CoD4. This is simply one of those things that just really doesn't need to be there.

The only way I'm ok with this is if it's a perk that has to be used in place of other more potentially valuable perks.

Agreed. Pistols are almost ALWAYS over powered in FPSes. I don't like the thought of people having two.

I am liking the new presentation layer - it looks like HalfLife 2 in that it is more 'gritty and detailed' if that makes sense?

Does that make sense?

Looking forward to this one - the hardest part will be waiting with my son as I want this to be on his Xmas list.

I love Zimmer but whenever games tout involvement with this level of talent I always worry about how much of their A game they bring to the work.  Is Zimmer really going to put a lot of effort into scoring MW2?  I hope so.

Depends on his outlook of course.  He gets paid regardless- it's not like Infinity Ward or Activision are going to call him on the carpet if they think he delivers substandard product or just outsources the bulk of the score to one of his junior proteges.

He outsources a lot of his scores for his blockbuster Hollywood films to junior proteges.  There was an article in Variety (I think) not too long ago where he talked about his scoring process.

Regardless, there's a vast talent difference between what Zimmer brings when he's the composer/chief overseer of something and what, say, Harry Gregson-Williams brings when he does the same (HGW was the composer for Modern Warfare 1).

I'm actually ok with that if you can only do it once and then you've lost your knife for melee attacks, forcing you to smack people a couple times with your gun to down them.

Gregson Williams only did the theme for MW1 (which I didn't find very memorable).  He is, however credited, for the bulk of the music on MGS 2,3, and 4.  All of which had fantastic soundtracks (particularly MGS4).  But I was disappointed to find that he evidently didn't do much of the actual scoring for those games either, with a Japanese composer doing most of it instead.

More specifically, I guess I'm just dubious whether Zimmer gives the same level of attention/oversight to MW2 that he would for one of his hollywood projects and I therefore hold little hope that it will be of remotely comparable quality.

Am I the only one that thinks the silly gamercard looking things that pop up at the bottom for kills and at the top right for game events will get really annoying? That's been brought up a couple of times in other places now and I have to agree.

The first multiplayer video released didn't have them, so maybe it's something you can turn off.

I guess my question is, why would Zimmer not care as much about a video game that generates the revenues of a blockbuster movie? Heck, Modern Warfare 2 will probably generate more revenue than any of the movies he's worked on.

Because:

1) You can't win Oscars for a video game score.
2) Games aren't as artistically important as movies.
3) While it may generate more revenue than a film, I suspect that he's being paid less than he would for a film.

Depends on how knowledgeable Zimmer is about video games and their reach.  While I think the revenue generating argument is a non starter for a variety of reasons (and FWIW he has worked on several nearly billion dollar grossing films including the Pirates' sequels and The Dark Knight), from a public impact point, MW2 will reach 10+ million people, which is about $75 million in movie grosses.  Not a blockbuster but nothing to sneeze at and more than a lot of the films that Zimmer has scored.

But if Zimmer is largely ignorant of games, their popularity, etc then he may view this as much less of a visible project and something he can kind of blow off and just collect a paycheck.

It's not as common these days but you used to see something similar with a lot of "big name" hollywood talent who would do voiceovers- they clearly were in it just for the paycheck and didn't put the same level of effort as they did in their normal performances.

EDIT- Yeah, basically what Chaz said.
