hmmm.. 2 people with performance issues running nvidia, 2 with none running ATI.  Kratz is running an older nvidia- I wonder if it's the newer nvidia cards causing issues?  I haven't done any other comparisons on other boards though.

for the record I'm running a i7 930 at 2.8ghz, 6 gig of ram and 2 5870's in crossfire.  not sure what cat's I'm using right now, I'll have to check later.

Yeah, I'm kind of wishing I'd stuck with 360, just because (and I really hate to say it), the automated match making really seems to result in better games for me.

Noticed a few annoying weapon damage things last night:

1. The M16 can't bring anyone down with one burst in regular mode, and two bursts take longer than 4 semi auto shots, so time and time again I've shot someone, and before the game lets me make another burst, they have killed me.

2. I headshot a couple people with the M14, and they didn't die until the SECOND headshot.

In better news, it seems to have been saving my rank... I'm up to 12 or 13 or something...

one game of Search & Destroy I played last night already had people in the upper 40's.  it was insane, everyone on the other team was dead before I even found anyone to kill.

I just dipped into this thread because I'm considering the PC version for my son. I find it very disconcerting that a number of GT'ers are having major problems with it - I feel for your frustration. My son has a half decent ATI card so maybe it will be OK on his rig. I just got the 360 version last night and a patch has already been issued - albeit it was a small 7 MB's and don't know if it dealt with any performance issues. It might not be any indication that a patch for the PC version is imminent, but it might be worth holding out for a few days to see.

I have it on the Pc,

Running it on an i5@4ghz, 4 gig ram and a Radeon 5770 on Windows 7 64 bit. Played for an hour multi and an hour single both ran fine at 1920x1080 everything on high, AA off and shadows off. Didn't measure on fps or try other settings but there seemed no issues.

I seem to be averaging between 50 and 60 FPS.  In the Soviet rocket level I had some spikes where it fell down into the 40's.

here's some random screenshots:

I was checking out the MP settings and they included a ton of options.  You can set a game to be headshots only, edit perks and set up custom classes.  it looks like MP might be the saving grace of this one.

just put in my first few hours with MP. Man, I don't know why I let friends keep talking me into the 360 versions the last few years. loving it on the pc. so much easier to control. not the greatest fps player anymore, but still tons of fun and usually hover around 50/50 ratio.

I pretty much play objective based types and played domination almost exclusively. I like game types that funnel the action vs wandering around or dm that promotes camping and lame snipers. Just had the most epic dom game ever. We were losing pretty much the entire game and around 120 we started to even out a bit. Eventually it was a race to the finish as both sides were separated by mere points. I glance down and notice it's 190-195 them and we have 2 points. 195/199. fuck we lost. NOPE! someone snags their last point and we won the match 200-199 barely. fucking epic finish.

Buying attachments, guns, etc is freakin bad ass. Loving that change. contracts seem like a fun addition to mix your gameplay up a bit or simply just reward you for doing what you're doing already. Being able to pick low ping servers is great change over random host on the 360. Quite a few servers in chicago giving me a nice low ping of 50-120'ish.

Stuttering issue frown Nothing worse than dying to something completely out of your control like that.

I am definitely enjoying the MP on the pc much, much more than the console versions I use to play.

I have seen major lags issues (both FPS and network) and this has been on my super Rig (nVidia based) as well as a couple of my spare rigs (both ATI and nVidia). I think the issue is more fundamental than a driver issue or related to a specific card type (this is what lack of BETA testing does). When in game my card is NOT being utilized. My processor is doing a lot of work (which I don't think should be the case).

There are a lot of issues with the servers as well. My server crashes a couple of times a day, and there are times when I (yes the freaking admin) can't connect to it or get on it and I have to use the admin panel to restart it. They also won't let me access the logs and when I put a ticket in they close it as not important since they limited everything to a single host (gameservers.com) they are SWAMPED and unable to help everyone until they get the major issues ironed out the affect everyone.

If they could iron out these stupid issues - I personally think the game is awesome and much better than MW2. Here hoping for the best.

I saw a link to the Steam forums that explains some of the performance problems with this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1579406

Apparently, it has much less to do with hardware than it does the speed of your internet connection.

got in some MP time last night, my first death was thanks to that damned RC car  icon_lol  I did notice some rubber banding.  I did get lucky and killed 2 guys with a 3 round burst from the M-16 (or whatever that starting Assault weapon is)- apparently they didn't know that bunching up is bad.   atcually I noticed a lot of my team's deaths also seemed to come in multiples that appeared to be close to each other.

not in my case.  I never touched the MP portion until CoD4, and with that one both the single player and MP were equally awesome.  I will agree that it has been the case for World at War, MW2 and probably BOPS (still haven't played enough MP to make a final judgement yet).

I say that enjoying the SP... but the MP has always been the major selling point (well... I guess I didn't really do MP until 4 as well, so maybe my original statement was dumb... anyway).

This is usually a sign of either a power supply issue or overheating, or a combination of both.

Sounds like the performance issues are definitely network related (low upload bandwidth specifically).

I'm going PC on this, is there a GT group I can get in on?

Yes, but most of the issues with Black Ops have been incredibly inefficient use of the CPU and bad network code for the stat servers. A graphics card overheat won't cause a hard reboot anyway. You'll just end up with graphic corruption and maybe driver crashes or something. A CPU overheat can cause a hard shutdown/restart.

As far as the single player vs multiplayer controversy, the true focus on multiplayer didn't start until COD4 (Modern Warfare). Up until that point, multiplayer had been generic deathmatch/FFA/CTF type stuff that was standard for any FPS being released. CoD 4 was one of the biggest franchise comebacks I've ever seen in the history of videogaming. They took a steadily declining WW2 series and turned it into a multiplayer-focused shooter that literally revolutionized the entire concept of what a multiplayer shooter is. And they did this in the face of competition that had been around for years - Battlefield, Ghost Recon, etc. It still kind of boggles my mind.

The contracts can be fun... except that I signed up for a contract that was 'get 18 kills in a domination match', and proceeded to get 18 kills in like 5 successive domination matches without fulfilling the contract... and as I type that I realize that because I was in hardcore domination matches that I probably need to do NON hardcore matches to fulfill it.

Dammit.

Got up to 25 this weekend... the Galil rules!  I was doing well with the Galil, warlord for the reflex site and the silencer, and then ninja and ghost for my other perks... good times.

All of my classes use Ghost. Not once have I regretted not having any of the other options for that slot.

The second one alternates mostly between Sleight of Hand and Warlord (Pro!).

And Ninja stays on the third slot for pretty much all of them right now too, though I'm leaning toward going back to the Tactical Mask on at least one class and carrying the gas grenades. I've seen them used very effectively once or twice now on Domination.

I love gas grenades on domination. you can pretty much defend a point against 2-3 people with ease with them.

Also I jumped into an HC server by accident and instantly fell in love. No stupid lame ass radar w/o a plane is win. This is how it should be imo. TK is a bit problematic though. damn twitchy fingers one everyone lol
