Direct2Drive and Steam are doing pre-loads now. I was going to skip but the more I see of this game the more I'm liking it, and there's no use waiting for a sale since they usually keep CoD games the same price for at least a year (MW2 is stilol $59.95 and they only just recently had a sale).

So people who played MW2 on PC... how well does the console style matching work? I went 360 on the last one and I thought it worked great there, but I'm less confident of the PC version for some reason (I am assuming it still has the console style thing instead of a server browser?)

this being a Treyarch one I'd expect it to have full server browser just like they have leaning and FOV adjustments.

I'm wondering the same thing. That D2D deal is way better than the almost 80 bucks I would pay here for the console version. I've never played a Call of Duty game on PC, how do they compare to the consoles? I dabble in MP, but usually peter out by about level 30. I like achievments too, which I realize the PC version won't have.

I would say that playing with people from here would be a selling point for the 360 version, but... I never play with anyone I know anyway.
I was getting the $20 credit offer from amazon on the 360 preorder, but now... I dunno... w/ shipping it's basically the same deal, only I don't have to buy another game to get it... though I did want AC:B too, so... dammit.
I wonder how it would run on my machine... I ran MW and W@W with everything turned up and it was super smooth.

Yeah, I hear that. Well.. I'm sold.. going to buy now. How did MW and WAW play on pc Kratz? I've gotten so used to playing these games with the 360 controller. I recently let my Live sub lapse, and was going to resub just for this game.

I had mw2 on the pc, and it was smooth as butter. You could form a party, and that party would follow you when choosing the different game modes. Never had any problems. I'm holding out for christmas, but if you're still playing then, I'd be happy to join up on some mp.

Call of Duty: Black Ops PC Minimum System Requirements:
OS: Windows® Vista / XP / 7 Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 or better Memory: 12 GB free hard drive space / 2GB RAM Video Card: Shader 3.0 or better 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600GT / ATI Radeon® X1950Pro or bett So I've got Windows 7 Quad Core Q6600 GeForce 8800GT You think I'll be able to turn this up to a good level? I don't have a good sense of how far over the minimum my spec actually is...

I have similar spec except I have a duel core, and was able to play MW2 at the highest settings at 1600x1050. I doubt black ops has changed much

Yeah. I have a server pre-ordered and anyone here is more than welcome on it at any time. I don't expect to have too many people personally - we are just a small group of people that play together (I suppose you could call it a clan). PhaseChangeGaming [PCG] is the group name we go by. Is is a ranked server I will be providing a public chat server eventually if the in-game chat is insufficient (they have been amazing so far - so maybe this won't be necessary). Name: PCG Public Random IP:216.155.140.129 Port:3074 My name in there will be Paronity. Contact me if you need anything or want to be a regular member and we'll add you to the list.

Man, reading around a lot of gaming forums the PC version of this game sounds like it's a mess. People are complaining about constant lag spikes and crappy framerates on some pretty powerful rigs.

reading the Steam forums makes me weep... for the future of humanity. I think I need to go read some of U2K's old posts just to help restore the IQ points I lost browsing them.

Man, I never read the Steam forums. That's just begging to lose brain cells.
I'm talking about places like Gamers with Jobs and HardOCP. There's a fairly sizable number of people with very decent to pretty great hardware that are saying the framerate is pathetic.
I've seen a claim or two that disabling the in game steam overlay fixes it, but I mentioned that over at GWJ and got at least one response that it didn't really solve anything.

Well i can confirm the lag and low fps in both single and multiplayer and Ive tried all the fixes mentioned and nothing worked. Im running and I7 930 overclocked to 3.7Ghz, 6GB DDR3 ram, a Nvidia gtx 480. Guess we wait for a patch.

I played a lot today... 3 - 4 hours of SP and an hour or two of MP... I saw some issues, but nothing major. I could do with better framerates, I suppose.
The thing that sucks that happened to me was the following:
Join server, rank up to level 3. Join new server... back to level 1. Level up to 3. Join new server, still level 3! Level up to 5. Join new server, go on insane streak, level up to just under level 8, when the server crashes... Join new server... I'm level 5.

I have not ran into these performance issues either. A couple of my co-workers have been having a hell of a time, but it's been smooth as silk so far on my end. Running a Core i7 930 OC'd, 6GB RAM and an ATI 5970.
The single player campaign has been pretty awesome so far. I can see why some reviewers have been negative about the sudden plot jumps, but to me it makes sense. Mason is being tortured for info after all.
Multiplayer has been fun too, but I am getting my ass kicked. I am so used to BF:BC2 at this point I am a bit rough with CoD.

so far the single player isn't wowing me. I'm on the fourth mission and so far beyond liking the graphics I haven't had any OMG moments. fired up MP, 18 players on a server seems too small of an amount, and I don't see a way to enter an IP manually. didn't see your server listed Slabety.

I can't believe this, but I'm actually considering double dipping and getting the 360 version of this. I don't want to give this damn company any more of my money, they've released a "steaming" pile of shit (sorry for the pun). But I love COD MP...

So I definitely have performance issues. Rig is an i5 750 Overclocked to 3.75ghz, 8gb of DDR3 1600, and SLI'd GTX 460's.
I get super smooth framerates no matter what's going on for spurts of anywhere from 10 to 20ish seconds, and then the game just stops for about a full second. Then it resumes at the super high framerate again. It's completely unplayable like this.
