anyone surprised?

Activision finally got around to getting the blackops2.com domain, so it won't be surprising if we don't see info on the title soon.  now some may suggest that it's just to protect the name, but they've had blackops3-to-6.com secured for awhile now, so I'm thinking it's a bit more.

I wonder if they're going to stick in the 60's for SP, or if they'll do 70's or even more modern times.  I just hope the story feels more cohesive this time, with maybe a little less jumping around.

I finished Blops SP (which is rare for me) I quit a third of the way through MW3 and thought it was retarded.  So I hope both aspects are more like Blops.

I know they started as the underdog, but I believe in a lot more of the Treyarch methods than IW's.

Same here.  I'm still a bit dumbfounded at how badly they screwed things up in mw3, at least for my tastes.

This year's entry in the Call of Duty franchise brings with it "meaningful innovation" for the series, according to Activision Publishing chief Eric Hirshberg.

Speaking during an investor call earlier today, Hirshberg announced work is well underway on the 2012 iteration of the FPS juggernaut.

"This year, we expect to further expand our presence with the launch of an all-new epic first person shooter title under the Call of Duty brand," he said.

"From what we've seen the game already looks fantastic and will bring meaningful innovation to the franchise. I could not be more excited."

Hirshberg also revealed new features are on their way to the Call of Duty Elite service in the next couple of months, with a more radical "2.0" release to coincide with the launch of Call of Duty 2012.

"We plan to keep our foot on the gas with Call of Duty Elite," he said.

"Although we are pleased with where we are today, the objective of Elite is to make the total Call of Duty experience more fun and more engaging and we plan to launch additional features in the next 60 days.

"We're already hard at work on Elite 2.0 with several innovative features being developed to work hand in hand with our next Call of Duty release."

One of our very own Gamerplex staff members recently visited a GameStop store to check up on the recent rumors relating to the upcoming Call of Duty. The employee they spoke with did confirm to us that they did receive Call of Duty materials from Activision with the “Eclipse” labeled over them. He also confirmed to us that Activision will be making an announcement on May 2nd about Call of Duty, however this is no release date as more than likely will be the first trailer for the upcoming Call of Duty. Having all of this material though, the employees do not know what to do with them as they received no further instructions from corporate.

at this point i am promising myself not to buy this game,truth be told i have hardly touched MW3 this time(unless anew map comes out and then i play that a few times then put it away again)

For me it just comes down to the setting; I find cold war themed games much more interesting than modern warfare or WW II themed games. The only other CoD game I've played much online is CoD4 MW, and despite enjoying it enought to rank to a general, I still preferred BLOPS. I'm definitely IN for this, but it might not be a day 1.

As much as I cringed when I first read this, I'm acuity now thinking this *might* be the change the series needs. Wait and see!

Meh, I would have much preferred a BLOPS 2 that continued the previous games characters and cold war story into the 70's - 80's.  Still, I love SciFi and it'll be interesting to see what their foray into a futuristic setting will be like. Somethings telling me that this will come off about as well as Battlefield 2142 though; good game but not many will choose to play online. I guess Activision has finally decided to try and yank the XBL SciFi mplay crown away from Halo.

Yep, I'm surprised Bungie never added a system like that in to Halo. Perks are a heckuva lot more alluring than new and shinier armor; especially when you factor in how much mplay time is required for something just cosmetic. I'm sure in the name of competitiveness, Treyarch will find a way to enhance it in BLOPS 2 and 1 up MS.

Goddamit, I have no interest in CoD, since I didn't even bother to finish MW3, and barely played the MP.  I shouldn't care at all about CoDBlOps2: Teh BlOpening.

Awesome! Now in the SP campaign you'll get sandbagged by adversaries who have uber state-of-the-art high tech weapons that only your side is supposed to have, but they got'em cause Ollie cut a deal. They could also have an Irangate perk for mplay, that once per session allows you to force a helpless, surprised opponent to trade their best weapon with you in exchange for a kick to the groan.
