after Call Of Duty 3 came out it was said that Treyarch were going to be doing all the odd numbered Call of duties(3,5,7 etc)..and Infinity wards would be doing all the even numbered CODs

so,this came to no suprise that Treyarch will be taking the call of duty series back to World War II for the Fifth installment

http://www.n4g.com/News-91096.aspx

now,i like the WWII setting, but after the fourth call of duty,i think Treyarch should of opted for another past war.....a Vietnam Call of duty game still sounds sweeet

and may i add,if they are going to do this world war 2 game ...they better put in the f***ing Gewehr 43 for the German side, because the American side had the M1 Gerand

Yeah, I agree that Treyarch should do another time period other than WWII.  Hell, even a fictional setting would be a nice change of pace.

ANOTHER WWII shooter? Yippie!

NOT.

Are there seriously ANY battles of WWII that haven't been done yet?

I am done with CoD games period except for a rental to check it out.  I am soooooo tired of it all to be honest.  Thus, why I sold my copy of CoD4.  Was fun, but wish I had only rented it.

Done and done.

For the love of baby Jesus, NO MORE WW2 games! This is getting ridiculous. They're not even giving the illusion of trying anymore. Give me more modern action the likes of COD4 - anything other than WW2.

If Infinity Ward's name is not on the COD games, I won't play them. Period. The others (Finest Hour and CoD3) have sucked a mountain of ass.

i like WWII shooters, but since Infinity Wards came up with modern warfare, this seems like a step backwards for Treyarch.....the story in all of the call of duty games means pretty much nothing to me,just the online is whats most important...and saying that,i will still buy this, but if the online isnt good then its going back....i will still be excited by new maps etc....

i am also guessing that this will be released in november2008,as thats when call of duty games are always released...so i would reckon they are at a point of no return in making the game to change their minds about the setting

A Korean war call of duty game would be great too. All we need is Spielberg to make a decent Korean or Vietnam war movie and we'd have an endless parade of such games.

Not really interested in this.  Might pick it up if it gets good reviews and there's nothing else interesting out.  After the fiasco of 3's initial online problems for the 360, I am not inclined to throw more money at them.

seriously, do we need a CoD game every year?  hell, they might as well drop the number and just call them Call of Duty 2008.

It seems IW challenged Treyarch at the end of COD 4 with the rap.  Just because COD3 was crap doesn't mean Treyarch  won't step up to the challenge and deliver something good this time.

What ever happened to "Gray Matter"? I thought the United Offensive expansion for the first Call of Duty was brilliant. My favorite expansion of all-time. I would like to see another expansion for CoD4 by them... that would be awesome.

edit:
Ohhh, Gray Matter merged into Treyarch. That explains it. Still: they really need to stop being a "front runner" developer and just get behind Infinity Ward, like they did with United Offensive. That was really good stuff. I'm sad that all their console stuff hasn't been nearly as fun (I *hated* COD3 for the PS2).

Yeah I am dissapointed by this. I wouldn't mind another WW2 game, but I want a break for a few years, and I want Infinity Ward to make it. I think Treyarch actually has quite a bit of talent, but I would like to see them take the series in a different direction. Vietnam, Korea, the future, Gulf War, whatever.

I'm not going to make judgements on the game before I see it.  I actually thought the CoD3 multiplayer portions were pretty good.  If they can combine that with the advances in persistant character building CoD4 brought to the table I'd be interested.  I'd like to see a Full CoD game dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad or the Market Garden Campaign.

They should have at least started seperate product lines for the modern warfare and WWII.  It just seems goofy to have two different developers, two different timelines and still call them sequels in the same line.

Yeah and I reviewed it. Totally forgot about that one which is funny considering I score it in the 90s. I actually enjoyed the heck out of it, which changes my argument in to "if Treyarch does a Call of Duty game then it has a strong chance of sucking, though they can pull one off if they try."

As I said in my review:
Quote
Let’s face it – we’ve all had it with World War II.  As Zero Punctuation agent provocateur “Yahtzee” pointed out, we’ve been playing World War II games for longer than it took to actually complete the bloody thing.  This year alone has seen a few WWII titles hit the shelf, and by this point we all die a little bit inside as we take up yet another shooter sporting the trademark ‘kaching!’ sound of an .30 Cal M1 Garand ejecting its last round.  You can’t imagine how happy I was to hear that Call of Duty 4 was going to be set in a modern combat theater.

Unless you have something new to add to the genre (e.g. Saboteur) then stop stop STOP with the damned WWII setting!!  Auughh....

I'm with everyone else here mostly, I think the CoD series needs to stay out of WWII, so like many of you, I view this as a backwards step. I still think the WWII genre has some potentially awesome gaming left in it, but it has been played out a bit by the sheer huge number of games. Vietnam, Gulf War 1, and Korea both are areas that should be looked at for shooter games.

I'd love to see Infinity Ward do a Vietnam game.  I think they could beat the greatness of the first Vietcong.

The original command and conquer did not suck.

Even C&C Commandos Renegade* (FPS) was neat, even if it was a generic shooter.

C&C Renegade (The FPS) was the game and I thought it invented new ways in which to suck. smile   The original C&C still sits pretty high on my 'all time greatest' list.

Strictly from a MP side, #5 won't probably top #4.  There is a lot they won't be able to do if they decide to go with the unlocking perks, weapons, and attachments.  Ok, I'll go even up on perks, but for weapon attachments, there is nothing in the WW2 setting.

They could introduce vehicles and such, but then they are crossing into BF1942 territory.

Too bad they can't span together a WW2-Modern Combat title where a few missions would hit a major battle or two in the larger wars.  MP would have a half century of weaponry to go off of too.

I also played CoD:BRO to completion and enjoyed it a lot. What was best about it was that they allowed you to shoot French Nazi sympathizers; +1 to Treyarch for allowing that in the game.  icon_twisted
I will say that CoD 2 for the X360, which I've been playing recently, is a far superior game.
