apparently COD5 is already playable

the developer is Treyarch and its set in WWII...but hold yer horses there...it DOES use COD4s game engine, and this WWII game is set in the pacific

i love my WWII games, but when COD4 came out,i thought it was the best thing ever to move away from that war...now with Treyarch we are going back(one last time..with Treyarch anyway)..and the change of scenery, and also enemies this time,Japanese i guess instead of Nazis...as long as it isn;t as bad as MOH rising sun....then going back one last time will be fine

i am guessing if it is this late in the stages, then a november release is on the cards,as COD games always come out in November(cod2,cod3 and cod4 anyway)

I don't know, man.  I'm so burned out with the WWII games.  CoD4 was such huge a step forward that going back to WWII, regardless of setting, just feels like two equally-sized steps back.

well, the plan is to have a new CoD every year so the fact that it's already playable in not a surprise.

Not suprising but still very disappointing.....I am tired of WW2 games....I don't care who is making it or where it takes place.  They have covered all bases.  There have been all of the MOH series, Battlestations midway, and the COD series....Can we have more new stuff like COD 4 please??

Treyarch, aren't those the guys that did Die By The Sword? God I loved that game. I didn't know they were still around.

They are.  Of course, they also did Spider-Man 3.

I still love WWII as a setting.  I think COD4's leaps forward had less to do with the setting and more to do with the gameplay (and graphics).

Really, though, if the game is exceptional, they could set it at a neighborhood block party.

well Treyarch are the guys who did Call Of Duty 3

and i dunno,i know a lot of people are sick of WWII shooters, but i dont really see what difference it makes really from the Halos, killzones and Hazes....its just one way of doing a FPS...Call of Duty3 was good,so i am sure number 5 will be good as well...it was november 2006 when COD3 came out,and 5 will prolly be the last WWII shooter for me for a long time(as all COD power goes to IW after number 5)

because of all the sci-fi FPS they can always try something different, whereas all the WWII shooters, can only try and attempt to be more real, there has only been two more WWII games out since COD3(MoH and hour of victory)

come november,i wont mind putting another 8 or so hours into it,and online better have balanced weapons for both sides this time Treyarch!!!

The big thing with me not liking WW2 shooters is the crappy iron sights.  I just can't use that to aim and much prefer a scope, dot, reticule or something along those lines.

Of course I think the general quality will likely be a bit lower in the Treyarch developed CoD5 anyway, so that doesn't help.

I think WW2 games are sweet, that was actually a war where everyone was fighting for thier life and land, not like any of this crap going off now in modern times, the war in iraki dosnt justify a game its lame.

It all hinges on how good the multiplayer is. While the SP in CoD4 is very good, it becomes an all-time great due to it's MP, IMO.

spot on,the call of duty games are some of the only games i have ever stuck with online(i still have COD2,3 and 4 for the 360)..like number 4,the single player is good, but the meat of the game is the online

with how popular COD4 has been online,it will be intersting to see how Treyarch responds

Yea, that is the plan.  Alternating between Infinity Ward and Treyarch every year to keep em coming.  As far as it being playable, yea....this just in, water is wet and fire is hot.  Of course it is already playable.  Way to state the obvious Kotaku.  Knockout journalism there...

Hey, Gears of War 2 is already playable too!  I should make a news post...

Hopefully, now that Tony Hawk is skipping a year, we'll see this trend start to die away.

I thought I'd read somewhere that IW had put the kibosh on other studios making CoD games from now on?

yeah i heard the same rumour...and ,as Kevin says it was going to take effect after number 5

still...if they are using number 4's game engine.........this could very well be the most realistic and last WWII game for a long long time...yeah,sorry but i'm still in icon_biggrin

If it uses the COD4 engine then we can finally witness the penetrating power of the BAR and .30 cal MGs. I'm hoping it does more shifting around to different services too. Perhaps flying as a gunner on the Dauntless dive bomber or shooting the AA guns while under air attack.

I have skipped the majority of those WWII games that burned everyone out, so I'll be nice and fresh for this one.  nod

The Pacific Theater will be nice to get me pumped for the new Band of Brothers that is supposed to come out in 2009 (I think).
