I'm not attracted to MMO...so this is definitely a wait and see...especially since every MMO ever has never worked well the first......MONTHS after release. smile

I will say the Alpha was amazingly polished and things ran well.  Granted the alpha player base will have been much smaller than release

I'm still really on the fence with this one. I've found myself drifting back more to single player games that I can make true progress on and finish in a reasonable amount of time. While the alpha was certainly polished and fun, I'm just not sure the multi aspects are going to hold my interest (particularly since there will be a lot of single player titles competing for my interest this fall).

Still in wait and see mode.

So... I'm assuming in order to play the beta you have to have a PSN Subscription is that correct?

Am I wrong to think that this game looks a lot like Borderlands as far as the gameplay goes or is there more to it?

There's a bit more to it.  It's like Borderlands with the FPS/RPG mechanics but there's more MMO to this.  You can randomly come across other players in the environment and there are Guild Wars 2 style area events.

I don't know about Beta, but the Alpha let you play without PS+ and if you were a member, but there were other areas that were open to you if you are a subscriber.

ok.  I don't have a sub yet, and the games that I have I don't have any interest yet, so I'm holding out until I have to.  I don't have a problem paying for the service, just don't want to pay for it when I'm not using it smile

I looked but didn't see any info for this on Bungie's site.  Amazon's listing has this:

Quote
In order to qualify for the Beta you will need to: Currently own either a PS4 system, PS3 system, Xbox One, or Xbox 360 with valid online subscription membership, have a unique PlayStation Network ID or Xbox LIVE Gamertag, and have a bungie.net account.

The game does require PS+/XLB Gold as it doesn't have an offline mode from the looks of it.

So, maybe it does have an offline mode where you run the single player story and free mode missions after all?

Keep in mind the "free" games you get monthly with plus.  Right now it's Strider and Towerfall.

I distinctly remember it connecting to the bungie servers during alpha, but the "raid" section was limited to PS+ only.  Even said on the UI.

I've decided to cancel my pre-order for this one. I was going XB1, but the 1-year exclusive DLC and halved beta time for XB1 owners is a bit slap in the face to Xbox fans who have supported Bungie for so long.

I have no idea what to do about this game.

I'm desperate for something new but am not interested in MMO's in any form or fashion.

YK- There will be an XB1 beta or did I miss it already?

I'm undecided on this one too, I may wait for impressions before I buy. But I'm not worried, the Lord of the Rings game comes out soon after and it looks awesome, the Infamous DLC comes out just before it as well. Dragon Age will also be a must buy for me, but probably on the PC.

Just like they did to PC/MAC users who supported Marathon and Myth.   Roll Eyes

XB1 beta runs from July 23-28.

If I was completely sold on the game I would probably not be so adamant about voting with my wallet, but the Alpha didn't do a great deal for me. My interest in MMOs and multiplayer in general has been heavily on the decline lately, though, so YMMV.

I missed the Alpha and was interested.  Agree with YK though, I'm now interested more in stellar single player experiences, which is why I'm chomping at the bit for TLOU!

Want some awesome codes that do awesome amazing stuff that I can't readily tell you what those things are right now!?   WHO DOESN'T?!

I have no idea what these collector's cards do, but you can attach them to your game in some way, and they are free.  They can be used over and over, so everyone here can nab all 17 of them.

First, go here: http://www.bungie.net/en/User/redeemedcodes

Make an account or sign into your existing one.  Enter the code, rinse repeat.

1: Warlock: YKA-RJG-MH9
2: Hunter: 3DA-P4X-F6A
3: Titan: MVD-4N3-NKH
4: Rixis Archon Slayer: TCN-HCD-TGY
5: Old Russia: HDX-ALM-V4K
6: Hive: 473-MXR-3X9
7: Moon: JMR-LFN-4A3
8: Gjallorhorn: HC3-H44-DKC
9: Duke MK.44: 69P-KRM-JJA
10: The Tower: 69P-VCH-337
11: The Hive: 69R-CKD-X7L
12: Valley of the kings, Mars: 69R-DDD-FCP
13: The Fallen: 69R-F99-AXG
14: Red Death: 69R-VL7-J6A
15: Cabal: 69X-DJN-74V
16: Venus: 6A7-7NP-3X7
17: Vex: Minotaur: 6A9-DTG-YGN

After you redeem them it says "Check back in 2014".  What does that mean?  I DON'T KNOW!  But hey...free is free.

Think I'll hang back on pre-ordering, I would have canceled my Watchdogs pre-order if I had remembered that I actually had done so before it shipped.  Can always download the digital version if it looks good.

ATB: To be honest, this will probably be an MMO that doesn't play as much like an MMO, but if the thing about MMOs that you hated was the loot grind, you should probably still avoid this.

From all that I'm hearing, the best way to see if you'll be interested in the gameplay over the long run is if you liked Borderlands 2's combat. It's almost the same style of shooter where you have positioning and movement, but the damage is heavily level dependent, to the point where if you're 2+ levels above or below a target, they soak up a lot of fire.

Thanks, Turtle.

I never played borderlands.

The most offputting thing to me about MMO's is that for 'raids' you  need to have a bunch of other people to do  successfully.  I can't be beholden to a time schedule and I do 90% of my gaming solo and I'm not interested in memorizing DPS charts or taking anything that seriously slywink.

I've intentionally avoided all information about this game so I don't get hyped.  I am looking forward to the beta and I am REALLY hoping I love it.  I was greatly disappointed that TitanFall did nothing for me and I stuck to my guns by not buying it and that ended up being the right decision. I hope Destiny steals my soul I love it so much.

I'm sitting on a CE copy of this for PS4.  I'll be missing out on the beta as we somehow planned our yearly vacation for the duration of the beta.

I have a spare beta key if anyone wants one.

There were Strikes in the Alpha and these only consist of a 3 man team.  The full game is rumored to have Raids for 6 players (two strike teams), but there is nothing set to be any larger than that.  Group public events can have more players around them but where groups are restricted to 3 players you're really not going to see any of the crazy 50 man raids etc from classic MMOs.

If you can party up with randoms, I'm fine with 3-6 man raids.  I've always had good luck with randoms believe it or not in games that require cooperation...

We'll see. Really hoping this game is great.  If it is, I'll probably bump up to the one with the expansion pass...

In the alpha it was quite easy to get into a random group, I just selected the mission area and the game found two other players to join in.  No issues at all.

Yep, talking with the team at Bungie that's their goal.  They want seamless jump-in, jump-out at all times, even for Raids.
