I've been trying to decide if I should pick up Bully for the Xbox 360, but with all of the game issues I read about I'm wondering if I should pass on the game. I know a patch was released, but was it enough to "fix" the issues those of you were experiencing? Or is the Xbox 360 a buggy mess?

I'm not a big fan of sandbox games (I never really got into GTA, Mercenaries or Saint's Row) but Bully's setting really has me interested. Plus my friend said the game contains some very memorable characters.

Absolutely worth a purchase.  I loved the game on the PS2, but never got around to beating it.  Then the 360 version came out and it was an instant purchase for me.

Technical issues?  Well I had a lot freeze ups before the patch, but I haven't had one since.  I'd say while the technical issues are probably not 100% fixed, the game killing ones are.

The game is just a blast to play.  It is like GTA in a private school setting.  The things that you can do in this game lead to a lot of hilarious moments.  I found myself laughing out loud at this game quite a bit.  The missions are fairly straight forward and only a few of them will have you looking for a guide or Gamefaqs.  The classes can be frustrating at times, but once you know what to expect, you will be passing with flying colors.

I finished the game about two weeks ago, but still find myself popping it in every so often to try and get some more achievements.  I am proud of the fact that I have gotten most of them.

To sum it up, great game.  Think Grand Theft Auto without the thug life.  To me that makes it more fun than Grand Theft.  I loved the game...I'd put it up there as one of my favorites this year.  Buy it, you will love it.

Not worth $60 or $50 or whatever.  $30, sure.

It's the only game I've been playing over the past couple of weeks. If you're into GTA gameplay and think you'd like the setting, it's easy to recommend. I'm really enjoying it and should finish it soon. I also had a few freezes pre-patch, but haven't had one problem since patching it. My only complaint is that it's a tad on the easy side.

If you're not into GTA type games (as you mentioned), this one still might work.  It's on a much smaller scale (at least it seems so to me, I have only made it into the town).  The only thing that's mildly ridiculous is the class schedule and making sure you get to class.  It sounds worse than it is, though, especially because once you pass a class you don't have to go again.  Then it's easy to focus on collecting and the story.

Absolutely worth $40, if you have a BB near you.

No problems since the patch for me, either, BTW.

Like you, a friend of mine agreed that I might like the game even though I'm not into the whole sandbox thing. He said the combination of a tighter storyline, unusual setting, and smaller scale made it noticeably different than something like GTA. With my $50 HD-DVD rebate promotion from Amazon, I snagged this for $40 and Casino Royale for $10.  Free money FTW!

I'm torn between this one and Tomb Raider: Anniversary for post Taxes gaming.  It sounds like Bully is $40 this week, and Anniversary can be found at $20, I think.  I loved Tomb Raider: Legend, and have never played any of the GTA series (I've been seriously turned off by the 'thuggishness' as well), but Bully sounds like it could be worth the time...

I really enjoyed Bully on the PS2, but if the thuginess was your big turnoff for the GTA series I think I'd recommend Crackdown over Bully.  You get to be a good guy and still enjoy in the GTAesque mayhem and freeform gameplay.  And it can easily be found for $20-25.

I Just finished the patched Xbox 360 version of Bully, and the game was every bit as enjoyable as the local forum members stated. I'm not big on sandbox games, but Bully had enough interesting quests and characters to keep me entertained until the very end. I finished the game with a completion rate of 48.06%, so obviously I skipped a significant amount of side content. Still, the game was worth every penny I spent. ($40)

If you are tired of the standard fantasy/sci-fi/WWII games that flood the marketplace, I would definitely recommend giving Bully a shot. You can get it for $20 now, and at that price I consider it a steal. Also, patched the game ran without any hiccups at all.

Cheers!

I re-purchased it on the 360 a few weeks ago because I loved it on the PS2. It looks nicer, and the glitches are definitely muted somewhat by the patch. Still ran into some serious quirks every now and then. But I've managed to get everything except for like two or three errands which will get me to hit 100% completion and yes that means I'm completely nuts for collecting things in this game. It's just so damn much fun! Not to mention watching My Fair Lady play Math 1-5 is hilarious. smile

i went back to this a few weeks ago and got my 100%

great game..and there is lots of other stuff to do,go cart racing was the best, first lot of races are in the carnival and then they go to around town and when you get first on all races you get the go cart..and the races are very easy, and the go-cart is very fast...beating up the Pirate kid for his hat and eye patch on the island was pretty funny

also the arcade machines around Bullworth are cool, some are really annoying but its good what they have

i am still hopeing they make a Bully 2

I've been thinking about this game lately because we got a Ralph Lauren Rugby catalog in the mail, and it has people on it who look like this:

And one of them is bald.

I only got as far as opening the town when other things distracted me.  I vow to finish this game someday, but I've got to get through some others first.

lol. that one wasn't bad but I rolled over and died on both Africa and the Middle East. Fortunately we have a giant map of the world hanging in a hallway in our house, but that only proved how infrequent we actually pay attention to it. icon_lol

It sounds like I missed some very entertaining sidequests. I never got the go-cart, never saw the pirate kid. One thing I was very happy to see was that no mission, or even the final "boss", were godawful difficult. Just about any mission could be finished the first time through, with only one or two needing a second attempt. It made for a relaxing experience.

I don't think they wil make a Bully 2, unfortunately. The 360 version supposedly sold only around 200,000 units, and the Wii version did only 25% of that.

thats a shame that it only sold so many perhaps the PS2 players didnt think it was worth buying again(although i also had it for the PS2),and a big yes on the mission difficulties...cakewalk if ever there was one

classes were just the right difficulty IMO....the biology one was a killer, class 5 took quite a few attempts.....and,er yeah..i got an map from my National Geographic magazine for the geography ones...and paused the game during the english classes so i could make as many anagrams as i could from the given letters in my own time,LOL

the errands that appear in the game a lot of the time wouldnt show up..i checked on xbox.com and a lot of other people were having the same problem, but the solution is to reset your 360 and load the game up again...the errands show up then for some reason

playing through a second time, and while i haven't hit anything like the bug that killed my progress in the ps2 version, are still annoying.  i've reverted to saving every other day just in case.  basically, i've glitched in the middle of doing something and can't move or do any action.  luckily, in one instance, i was in enemy territory and the beat me up, when i woke up i was fine again.  the second time, i stalled on the front steps of school before class and got caught.  after class everything was fine again.

the ps2 bug was bad though.  basically, i advanced the story into spring before doing the snow clearing jobs and wanted to go back.  when i reloaded, my game would not show any missions available, only classes and jobs.  i couldn't advance the story.  with a single save, i was so annoyed i didn't restart.  now i stagger my saves so i shouldn't run into that.

just as fun as before, and the extra games aren't too difficult.  biology kind of sucks due to the slow movement speed.

I want to like it but those load screens were so frequent I couldn't take it.  Walk out any door and load screen, look at your watch load screen.  Heck I think there were load screens if you just stood still!

Of course this thread is making me think about putting it back on my gamefly queue.

That's what killed it for me but there's a slight trick - rapidly tap the thumbstick in the direction you want it to go in, and it moves quicker than just dragging it. More accurate too. Bio 5 you're going to be left with like 5-10 seconds so ignore the clock and just tap the thumbstick and you'll get it.

i cleared it with ~10 seconds before i knew about this trick.  what a pain and for very little payoff.  at least geography gives you item locations.  bio and music should probably been cut from the game, imo.  especially music.  85% + accuracy in the later classes is a pita.

I just got this from Gamefly today, and after getting my bearings, I'm now hooked. Thinking about making it a keeper, $17.99 to buy it from Gamefly.

One question: what is the penalty for getting caught breaking curfew?
