I thought there were going to be more active skills in BL2, but it looks like it's the same as BL1. Each class gets one active skill and the rest are passives.

No.. if you go through the skill trees (and assign points - don't forget to assign points to the top one first) then each section has at least two passives (the highest skill in each tree generally is, as well as one of the three on the same row) Assassin has less than gunzerker. Look for the 0/1 as opposed to the 0/5 skills. For instance, Gunzerker has a special melee attack (with a cooldown time) in the right-hand tree.

What I would consider active skills are ones that you have to specifically activate, like in Diablo. In BL2, each character can shoot, throw grenades, do a melee attack, or activate their special skill, and all the skills in the skill tree just alter the way those work. Even the skills with cooldowns just change the way the melee attack works. The skills certainly look interesting, but since you don't actually do anything different to use them, I'd still consider them all passive skills.

Well, the game is all about the guns, really. What I think is interesting is the way in which skills interact with various weapons. For instance, Salvador has a skill that boosts the damage for the last shot in a magazine, with a minimum clip of 10 for full effect. I remember weapons in the first game no one would dream of using because you had to reload too often, that might work really well with this skill (especially if you throw in some reload redux as well). In diablo there is virtually no interaction between equipment and skills, especially in Diablo III. Another example: Axton has a skill that boosts damage using guns without elemental effects (hello, Jakobs).

This is an area I never did get a grip on in the first game, when to switch to corrosive, shock, fire, explosive or plain weapons. I checked the wiki, looked at the forums, but in the end I always felt I was just guessing. I might end up getting the strategy guide for BL2 to see if this would help.

You want to use electricity against shielded opponents to drop them quickly. Fire and acid worked great against unshielded opponents, as you could watch them dissolve. Explosive, irrc, was a general damage, and the weakest of the 4.

There were a few exceptions, like the green and blue armored troops who had special resistances, but the overall pattern I had throughout the whole game was fire against everything except the armored enemies who i used the electricity/ acid attacks. Explosive was only good against large numbers of trash mobs. I was favoring the commando or gunzerker, but after seeing the amount of damage I was doing with an SMG (49x4 non-elemental, 45 clip with an insane reload speed) I need to see which set of skills will best suit that gun. I basically took out the end boss with it once the tentacles grabbed onto the rocks in a fifth of the time it took to get that far. It made the 3k+ damage from the sniper rifle crit seem like a level 1 pistol.

BL2 online Skilltree Builder direct link. I noticed under Axton that in the Survival branch of the skills in the first level there is a skill called Preparation. If you spent points there, a full charged Shield will regenerate Health. Is this new to BL2? I don't remember having this option in BL1, but maybe I missed it. In BL1 I was always switching between health generating shields and one with more capacity.

jzt, that one caught my eye too. There were shields that would regen health, but I don't remember any skills like that. There's another that increases shield recharge after a kill. Seems like a good combo.

I saw it 4 or 5 times on Sunday and thought it was fantastic. They did a great job of making it look like everything came right out of the game, even though it was live-action.

you know you want to. GMG still has their codes 25% off - GMG25-1BW0K-K1A3G lasts until 9/17 pretty sure the code is one use only, but they have had 25% off codes almost back to back after code it works out to: Borderlands 2 $35.99 Borderlands 2 Season Pass $22.50

I actually picked up Borderlands 2 from them during their 20% off sale... should have waited. I didn't know it works on the Season pass as well. I may have to bite. I'll try to be playing what little I can in between class, homework, papers, this site... so, maybe 20-40 minutes a week, tops. If you want to add me on Steam, my ID is fencermusashi. Hit me up and I'll try to join you for a round or two.

I may have to bite. that's what I did for the base game, and it appears you can use the same code again, you just cannot apply it to more than one item in an order. not sure if there is going to be a pre-load, but even if there isn't I've got quite a bit of exploring to do in Fallout 3 so I'm not worried about jumping straight in. love GMG even if they occasionally aren't able to get the keys out for pre-loads. so far I've saved about 60 bucks this fall gaming season because of their deals. they're XCOM deal is pretty tempting too....
